Solomon Blesses the People
Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.
Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.
Salomo betete: »Du, HERR, hast gesagt, dass du im Dunkel einer Wolke wohnst.
But I have built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.”
Nun habe ich dieses prachtvolle Haus für dich gebaut. Möge es ein Ort sein, an dem du dich für alle Zeiten niederlassen wirst.«
Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood.
Nach diesem Gebet wandte sich der König zu den Israeliten um, die sich vor dem Tempel zusammengefunden hatten. Er segnete sie und sagte:
And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying,

‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, and I chose no man as prince over my people Israel;

but I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’
Nun aber soll Jerusalem der Ort sein, an dem ich für immer wohnen will. Dich, David, habe ich zum König über mein Volk Israel bestimmt.‹
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
Mein Vater David hatte schon lange einen großen Wunsch: Er wollte dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, einen Tempel bauen.
But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart.
Doch der HERR sagte zu ihm: ›Ich freue mich zwar, dass du ein Haus für mich bauen möchtest.
Nevertheless, it is not you who shall build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’
Aber nicht du, David, sollst es bauen, sondern erst dein Sohn.‹
Now the Lord has fulfilled his promise that he made. For I have risen in the place of David my father and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

And there I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with the people of Israel.”

Er hatte für die Einweihungsfeier eine Plattform aus Bronze anfertigen und sie mitten in den Tempelvorhof stellen lassen. Sie war zweieinhalb Meter lang, zweieinhalb Meter breit und eineinhalb Meter hoch. Salomo stieg nun auf die Plattform, kniete vor den Augen der versammelten Menge nieder, erhob seine Hände zum Himmel
and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart,
und betete: »HERR, du Gott Israels! Es gibt keinen Gott wie dich — weder im Himmel noch auf der Erde. Du hältst den Bund, den du mit deinem Volk geschlossen hast, und erweist allen deine Liebe, die dir dienen und von ganzem Herzen mit dir leben.
who have kept with your servant David my father what you declared to him. You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day.
Und so hast du auch deine Zusage eingehalten, die du meinem Vater David gegeben hast. Was du ihm damals versprachst, hast du nun in die Tat umgesetzt, wie wir alle es heute sehen.
Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you have promised him, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’
HERR, du Gott Israels, ich bitte dich: Halte auch das andere Versprechen, das du meinem Vater David gegeben hast. Du sagtest zu ihm: ›Immer wird einer deiner Nachkommen König über Israel sein, solange sie sich nach meinen Geboten richten, wie du es getan hast.‹
Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you have spoken to your servant David.
Ja, HERR, du Gott Israels, bitte erfülle alles, was du deinem Diener David versprochen hast!
“But will God indeed dwell with man on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, how much less this house that I have built!
Doch wirst du, Gott, wirklich auf der Erde bei den Menschen wohnen? Ist nicht sogar der weite Himmel noch zu klein, um dich zu fassen, geschweige denn dieses Haus, das ich gebaut habe?
Yet have regard to the prayer of your servant and to his plea, O Lord my God, listening to the cry and to the prayer that your servant prays before you,
Trotzdem bitte ich dich, HERR, mein Gott: Höre mein Rufen und weise meine Bitten nicht zurück! Erhöre das Gebet, das ich in aller Demut an dich richte!
that your eyes may be open day and night toward this house, the place where you have promised to set your name, that you may listen to the prayer that your servant offers toward this place.
Bitte, wache Tag und Nacht über dieses Haus! Es ist ja der Ort, von dem du selbst gesagt hast: ›Hier will ich wohnen.‹ Darum erhöre das Gebet, das ich, dein ergebener Diener, an diesem Ort an dich richte.
And listen to the pleas of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen from heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.
Nimm meine Gebete an und auch die deines Volkes, wenn wir zum Tempel gewandt mit dir reden. Hör unser Rufen im Himmel, dort, wo du thronst, und vergib uns!
“If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath and comes and swears his oath before your altar in this house,
Wenn jemand beschuldigt wird, einem anderen etwas angetan zu haben, und er hier vor deinem Altar schwören muss, dass er unschuldig ist,
then hear from heaven and act and judge your servants, repaying the guilty by bringing his conduct on his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
dann höre du im Himmel, was er sagt, und sorge für Recht: Entlarve und bestrafe ihn, wenn er schuldig ist; wenn er aber unschuldig ist, verschaffe ihm Gerechtigkeit!
“If your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn again and acknowledge your name and pray and plead with you in this house,
Wenn die Israeliten von Feinden besiegt werden, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und sie dann ihre Schuld einsehen und dich wieder als ihren Gott loben, so höre sie im Himmel! Vergib deinem Volk Israel die Schuld, wenn sie hier im Tempel zu dir beten und dich um Hilfe anflehen! Bring sie wieder zurück in das Land, das du einst ihnen und ihren Vorfahren geschenkt hast!
Wenn es einmal lange Zeit nicht regnet, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und sie dann zu diesem Tempel gewandt beten und dich wieder als ihren Gott loben, so höre sie im Himmel! Wenn sie von ihren falschen Wegen umkehren, weil du sie bestraft und zur Einsicht gebracht hast, dann vergib deinem Volk und seinen Königen ihre Schuld! Denn du zeigst ihnen, wie sie ein Leben führen können, das dir gefällt. Lass es wieder regnen auf das Land, das du deinem Volk als bleibenden Besitz gegeben hast!
“If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemies besiege them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,
Wenn im Land Hungersnot herrscht oder die Pest wütet, wenn das Getreide durch Glutwind, Pilzbefall oder Ungeziefer vernichtet wird, wenn Feinde kommen und israelitische Städte belagern — wenn also das Land von irgendeinem Unglück oder einer Seuche heimgesucht wird —,
whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing his own affliction and his own sorrow and stretching out his hands toward this house,
dann höre auf jedes Gebet, das an dich gerichtet wird, sei es von einzelnen Menschen oder vom ganzen Volk! Erhöre im Himmel, wo du thronst, die Bitten aller, die dich in ihrer Not und ihrem Schmerz suchen und die Hände flehend zu diesem Tempel hin ausstrecken. Gib jedem, was er verdient, denn du kennst sein Herz! Vergib ihm und handle so mit ihm, wie es seinen Taten entspricht! Denn du allein kennst alle Menschen durch und durch.
that they may fear you and walk in your ways all the days that they live in the land that you gave to our fathers.
Darum sollen sie dich als ihren Gott achten und ehren, und sie sollen dir gehorchen, solange sie in dem Land leben, das du unseren Vorfahren gegeben hast.
“Likewise, when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a far country for the sake of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm, when he comes and prays toward this house,
Wenn Ausländer, die nicht zu deinem Volk Israel gehören, deinetwegen aus fernen Ländern hierherkommen, weil sie von deinem Ruhm und deinen mächtigen Taten gehört haben,
hear from heaven your dwelling place and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to you, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house that I have built is called by your name.
dann erhöre auf deinem Thron im Himmel auch ihre Gebete, die sie vor diesem Tempel sprechen! Erfülle die Bitten dieser Menschen, damit alle Völker auf der Erde dich als den wahren Gott erkennen! Sie sollen dich achten und ehren, wie dein Volk Israel es tut, und sollen erkennen, dass du in diesem Tempel wohnst, den ich gebaut habe.
“If your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to you toward this city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name,
Wenn die Israeliten Krieg führen und auf deinen Befehl gegen ihre Feinde ausziehen, wenn sie dann zu der Stadt blicken, die du erwählt hast, und zu dem Tempel, den ich für dich gebaut habe,
then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause.
dann höre im Himmel ihr Flehen und verhilf ihnen zum Recht!
“If they sin against you — for there is no one who does not sin — and you are angry with them and give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to a land far or near,
Wenn sie sich aber von dir abwenden — es gibt ja keinen Menschen, der nicht sündigt — und du zornig wirst und sie an ihre Feinde auslieferst, die sie als Gefangene in ihr Land verschleppen, sei es fern oder nah,
yet if they turn their heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned and have acted perversely and wickedly,’
dann höre sie doch im Himmel, wo du wohnst, wenn sie dort in der Fremde ihre Schuld bereuen und zu dir umkehren! Wenn sie dann zu dir um Hilfe flehen und dir bekennen: ›Wir haben Schuld auf uns geladen und gegen dich gesündigt, als wir dir den Rücken kehrten‹, dann erhöre ihr Flehen, wenn sie sich wieder von ganzem Herzen dir zuwenden! Hilf ihnen, wenn sie im Gebiet ihrer Feinde zu dir beten und zu dem Land blicken, das du ihren Vorfahren gegeben hast, zu der Stadt, die du für dich erwählt hast, und zu dem Tempel, den ich für dich gebaut habe. Vergib deinem Volk alles, was sie dir angetan haben!
Now, O my God, let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.
Bitte, mein Gott, verschließ deine Augen und Ohren nicht vor den Gebeten, die dein Volk an diesem Ort an dich richtet!

you and the ark of your might.
Let your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
and let your saints rejoice in your goodness.

HERR, mein Gott, erhebe dich! Lass dich nun im Heiligtum nieder, zusammen mit der Bundeslade, dem Zeichen deiner Macht. Deine Priester, HERR, mein Gott, sollen stets dein Heil für uns erwirken. Lass alle, die dir vertrauen, sich freuen über deine Güte.
