Während in Persien König Artaxerxes regierte, zog ein Mann namens Esra von Babylon nach Jerusalem. Er war ein Sohn von Seraja und Enkel von Asarja; seine weiteren Vorfahren hießen: Hilkija,
son of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the chief priest —
Abischua, Pinhas, Eleasar und Aaron, der Hohepriester.
this Ezra went up from Babylonia. He was a scribe skilled in the Law of Moses that the Lord, the God of Israel, had given, and the king granted him all that he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him.
Esra war ein Schriftgelehrter, der das Gesetz gut kannte, das der HERR seinem Volk Israel durch Mose anvertraut hatte. Und weil Gott seine schützende Hand über Esra hielt, erfüllte der König alle seine Bitten.
And there went up also to Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king, some of the people of Israel, and some of the priests and Levites, the singers and gatekeepers, and the temple servants.
Im 7. Regierungsjahr von König Artaxerxes zogen viele Israeliten mit Esra nach Jerusalem, darunter Priester und Leviten, Sänger, Torwächter und Tempeldiener.
Sie verließen Babylonien am 1. Tag des 1. Monats und erreichten Jerusalem am 1. Tag des 5. Monats. Weil Gott ihnen geholfen hatte, waren sie so schnell vorangekommen.
For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.
Esra widmete sich von ganzem Herzen der Aufgabe, das Gesetz des HERRN zu erforschen, es zu befolgen und die Israeliten darin zu unterweisen.
This is a copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a man learned in matters of the commandments of the Lord and his statutes for Israel:
König Artaxerxes gab Esra, dem Priester, der das Gesetz Gottes so genau kannte und auslegen konnte, eine Vollmacht mit. Sie lautete:
»Artaxerxes, der größte aller Könige, an Esra, den Priester und Beauftragten für das Gesetz des Gottes im Himmel: Sei gegrüßt!
I make a decree that anyone of the people of Israel or their priests or Levites in my kingdom, who freely offers to go to Jerusalem, may go with you.
Ich ordne hiermit an, dass jeder Israelit in meinem Reich mit dir nach Jerusalem ziehen kann, wenn er es wünscht, auch die Priester und Leviten.
For you are sent by the king and his seven counselors to make inquiries about Judah and Jerusalem according to the Law of your God, which is in your hand,
Der König und seine sieben Berater senden dich nach Juda und Jerusalem. Du sollst erkunden, ob dort alles dem Gesetz deines Gottes entspricht, das du ja so gut kennst wie kein anderer.
and also to carry the silver and gold that the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,
Nimm das Silber und Gold mit, das der König und seine Berater als Opfergaben für den Gott Israels gestiftet haben, dessen Tempel in Jerusalem steht.
with all the silver and gold that you shall find in the whole province of Babylonia, and with the freewill offerings of the people and the priests, vowed willingly for the house of their God that is in Jerusalem.
Auch das Silber und Gold, das du in der Provinz Babylonien bekommen wirst, und die freiwilligen Gaben, die das Volk und die Priester für den Tempel ihres Gottes sammeln, sollst du mitnehmen.
With this money, then, you shall with all diligence buy bulls, rams, and lambs, with their grain offerings and their drink offerings, and you shall offer them on the altar of the house of your God that is in Jerusalem.
Kaufe von dem Geld Stiere, Schafböcke und Lämmer sowie Speiseopfer und Trankopfer. Dann bringt sie auf dem Altar im Tempel eures Gottes in Jerusalem dar.
Whatever seems good to you and your brothers to do with the rest of the silver and gold, you may do, according to the will of your God.
Was ihr übrig behaltet, könnt ihr so verwenden, wie es euch richtig erscheint, nur müssen du und die anderen Priester sich dabei nach dem Willen eures Gottes richten.
The vessels that have been given you for the service of the house of your God, you shall deliver before the God of Jerusalem.
Bringe deinem Gott in Jerusalem auch alle Gegenstände, die man dir für den Dienst im Tempel geben wird.
And whatever else is required for the house of your God, which it falls to you to provide, you may provide it out of the king’s treasury.
Was du sonst noch für den Tempel deines Gottes brauchst, wird das persische Königshaus bezahlen.
“And I, Artaxerxes the king, make a decree to all the treasurers in the province Beyond the River: Whatever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the Law of the God of heaven, requires of you, let it be done with all diligence,
Ich, König Artaxerxes, erteile allen Schatzmeistern in den Gebieten westlich des Euphrat den Befehl: Wenn Esra, der Priester und Beauftragte für das Gesetz des Gottes im Himmel, euch um etwas bittet, so gebt es ihm,
und zwar bis zu 3,5 Tonnen Silber, 13 Tonnen Weizen, 2200 Liter Wein und 2200 Liter Öl, dazu Salz in unbegrenzter Menge.
Whatever is decreed by the God of heaven, let it be done in full for the house of the God of heaven, lest his wrath be against the realm of the king and his sons.
Ihr sollt gewissenhaft ausführen, was der Gott des Himmels für seinen Tempel verlangt. Denn sonst trifft sein Zorn unser Königreich, mich und meine Nachfolger.
We also notify you that it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll on anyone of the priests, the Levites, the singers, the doorkeepers, the temple servants, or other servants of this house of God.
Niemand hat das Recht, von den Priestern, Leviten, Sängern, Torwächtern und Tempeldienern irgendwelche Steuern, Abgaben oder Gebühren zu verlangen.
“And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God that is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges who may judge all the people in the province Beyond the River, all such as know the laws of your God. And those who do not know them, you shall teach.
Dir, Esra, hat dein Gott Weisheit geschenkt. Darum setze für dein Volk, das westlich des Euphrat lebt, rechtskundige Männer und Richter ein! Sie sollen Recht sprechen für alle, die das Gesetz deines Gottes kennen; und wenn jemand es nicht kennt, sollt ihr ihn darin unterweisen.
Whoever will not obey the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be strictly executed on him, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of his goods or for imprisonment.”
Jeder, der dem Gesetz deines Gottes und meinem Befehl nicht gehorcht, muss nach der Schwere seines Vergehens verurteilt werden: zum Tod, zum Verlust des Bürgerrechts, zu einer Geld- oder Gefängnisstrafe!«
Blessed be the Lord, the God of our fathers, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the Lord that is in Jerusalem,
Gepriesen sei der HERR, der Gott unserer Vorfahren! Er hat den König zu diesem Erlass bewogen, weil er seinem Tempel in Jerusalem Ruhm und Ansehen geben wollte.
and who extended to me his steadfast love before the king and his counselors, and before all the king’s mighty officers. I took courage, for the hand of the Lord my God was on me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.
Er hat mir die Gunst des Königs, seiner Berater und einflussreichen Beamten geschenkt. Weil Gott seine schützende Hand über mich hält, habe ich Mut gefasst, die Sippenoberhäupter aus Israel zur Rückkehr zu bewegen.
