And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way?

No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem?

No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’
Endlich rief er seinen Gärtner: ›Schon seit drei Jahren komme ich immer wieder und schaue nach Früchten, aber ich finde keine. Hau den Baum um. Warum soll er den Boden weiter aussaugen?‹
And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure.
Aber der Gärtner bat: ›Herr, lass ihn noch ein Jahr stehen! Ich will den Boden um den Baum herum noch einmal umgraben und ihn gut düngen.
Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”
Wenn er dann Früchte trägt, ist es gut; sonst kannst du ihn umhauen.‹«
A Woman with a Disabling Spirit

And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself.
Eine Frau hörte ihm zu. Sie wurde von einem bösen Geist beherrscht, der sie krank machte: Seit achtzehn Jahren war sie verkrümmt und konnte sich nicht mehr aufrichten.
When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.”
Als Jesus sie sah, rief er sie zu sich: »Du bist von deinem Leiden erlöst!«
And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.
Er legte seine Hände auf sie. Sofort richtete sie sich auf und dankte Gott von ganzem Herzen.
But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.”
Aber der Vorsteher der Synagoge war empört darüber, dass Jesus die Frau am Sabbat geheilt hatte. Er sagte zu den Versammelten: »Die Woche hat sechs Arbeitstage. An denen könnt ihr kommen und euch heilen lassen, aber nicht ausgerechnet am Sabbat!«
Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it?
Doch Jesus, der Herr, erwiderte: »Ihr Heuchler! Ihr bindet doch euren Ochsen oder Esel auch am Sabbat vom Futtertrog los und führt ihn zur Tränke.
And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”
Und mir verbietet ihr, diese Frau am Sabbat aus der Gefangenschaft des Satans zu befreien! Achtzehn Jahre lang war sie krank. Dabei gehört sie doch wie ihr zu Gottes auserwähltem Volk!«
As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
Daraufhin waren seine Gegner beschämt. Aber alle anderen freuten sich über die wunderbaren Taten von Jesus.
The Mustard Seed and the Leaven
He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?

Jesus fragte seine Zuhörer: »Womit kann ich Gottes Reich vergleichen? Wie soll ich es beschreiben?

Es ist wie ein Senfkorn, das ein Mann in seinem Garten aussät. Das Samenkorn geht auf, wächst und wird zu einem Baum, in dessen Zweigen die Vögel ihre Nester bauen.«
And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
Jesus fragte noch einmal: »Womit soll ich Gottes Reich vergleichen?
It is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”
Es ist wie ein Sauerteig, den eine Frau zum Brotbacken nimmt. Obwohl sie nur wenig davon unter eine große Menge Mehl mischt, ist am Ende alles durchsäuert.«

“Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
»Setzt alles daran, durch das enge Tor in Gottes Reich zu kommen! Denn viele versuchen es, aber nur wenigen wird es gelingen.
When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’
Hat der Hausherr erst einmal das Tor verschlossen, werdet ihr draußen stehen. Soviel ihr dann auch klopft und bettelt: ›Herr, mach uns doch auf!‹ — es ist umsonst! Er wird euch antworten: ›Was wollt ihr von mir? Ich kenne euch nicht!‹
Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’
Ihr werdet rufen: ›Aber wir haben doch mit dir gegessen und getrunken! Du hast auf unseren Straßen gelehrt!‹
But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’
Doch der Herr wird euch erwidern: ›Ich habe doch schon einmal gesagt: Ich kenne euch nicht. Geht endlich weg von mir! Menschen, die Unrecht tun, haben hier nichts verloren.‹
In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves cast out.
Wenn ihr dann draußen seid und seht, dass Abraham, Isaak, Jakob und alle Propheten in Gottes Reich sind, dann werdet ihr heulen und ohnmächtig jammern.
And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God.
Aus der ganzen Welt, aus Ost und West, aus Nord und Süd, werden die Menschen kommen und in Gottes Reich das Freudenfest feiern.
And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”
Ihr werdet sehen: Viele, die jetzt einen großen Namen haben, werden dann unbedeutend sein. Und andere, die heute die Letzten sind, werden dort zu den Ersten gehören.«
Lament over Jerusalem
At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.”

And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course.
Jesus antwortete: »Sagt diesem Fuchs: ›Heute und morgen treibe ich Dämonen aus und heile Kranke. Aber am dritten Tag werde ich mein Ziel erreicht haben.‹
Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’
Ja, heute, morgen und übermorgen bin ich noch unterwegs. Wo anders als in Jerusalem könnte denn ein Prophet umgebracht werden?
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!
Jerusalem! O Jerusalem! Du tötest die Propheten und steinigst die Boten, die Gott zu dir schickt. Wie oft schon wollte ich deine Bewohner um mich sammeln, so wie eine Henne ihre Küken unter ihre Flügel nimmt! Aber ihr habt es nicht gewollt.
Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
Und nun? Gott wird euren Tempel verlassen, und ich sage euch: Mich werdet ihr erst dann wiedersehen, wenn ihr rufen werdet: ›Gepriesen sei, der im Auftrag des Herrn kommt!‹«
