according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood:

Ihr gehört zu Gott, unserem Vater. Dazu hat er euch von Anfang an vorherbestimmt. Ja, durch den Heiligen Geist seid ihr sein Eigentum geworden — Menschen, die Jesus Christus gehorchen und durch sein Blut von aller Schuld befreit werden. Ich wünsche euch, dass Gottes Gnade und sein Friede euch immer mehr erfüllen.

Gelobt sei Gott, der Vater unseres Herrn Jesus Christus! In seinem großen Erbarmen hat er uns neues Leben geschenkt. Wir sind neu geboren, weil Jesus Christus von den Toten auferstanden ist, und jetzt erfüllt uns eine lebendige Hoffnung.
to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
Es ist die Hoffnung auf ein ewiges, von keiner Sünde beschmutztes und unzerstörbares Erbe, das Gott im Himmel für euch bereithält.
who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Bis dahin wird euch Gott durch seine Kraft bewahren, weil ihr ihm vertraut. Und so erfahrt ihr schließlich seine Rettung, die am Ende der Zeit für alle sichtbar werden wird.
In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,
Darüber freut ihr euch von ganzem Herzen, auch wenn ihr jetzt noch für eine kurze Zeit auf manche Proben gestellt werdet und viel erleiden müsst.
so that the tested genuineness of your faith — more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire — may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
So wird sich euer Glaube bewähren und sich als wertvoller und beständiger erweisen als pures Gold, das im Feuer gereinigt wurde. Lob, Ruhm und Ehre werdet ihr dann an dem Tag empfangen, an dem Christus für alle sichtbar kommt.
Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,
Ihr habt ihn nie gesehen und liebt ihn doch. Ihr glaubt an ihn, obwohl ihr ihn auch jetzt nicht sehen könnt, und eure Freude ist herrlich, ja, grenzenlos,
obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
denn ihr wisst, dass ihr das Ziel eures Glaubens erreichen werdet: die Rettung für alle Ewigkeit.
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully,
Schon die Propheten haben gesucht und geforscht, was es mit dieser Rettung auf sich hat, und sie haben vorausgesagt, wie reich Gott euch beschenken würde.
In ihnen wirkte bereits der Geist von Christus. Er zeigte ihnen, dass Christus leiden müsste und danach Ruhm und Herrlichkeit empfangen würde. Daraufhin forschten die Propheten, wann und wie dies eintreffen sollte.
It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.
Gott ließ sie wissen, dass diese Offenbarungen nicht ihnen selbst galten, sondern euch. Nun sind sie euch verkündet worden, und zwar von denen, die euch die rettende Botschaft gebracht haben. Gott hat sie dazu durch den Heiligen Geist bevollmächtigt, den er vom Himmel zu ihnen sandte. Diese Botschaft ist so einzigartig, dass selbst die Engel gern mehr davon erfahren würden.
Darum seid bereit und stellt euch ganz und gar auf das Ziel eures Glaubens ein. Lasst euch nichts vormachen, seid besonnen und richtet all eure Hoffnung auf Gottes Barmherzigkeit, die er euch in vollem Ausmaß an dem Tag erweisen wird, wenn Jesus Christus für alle sichtbar kommt.
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance,
Weil ihr Gottes Kinder seid, gehorcht ihm und lebt nicht mehr wie früher, als ihr euch von euren Leidenschaften beherrschen ließt und Gott noch nicht kanntet.
but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
Der heilige Gott hat euch schließlich dazu berufen, ganz zu ihm zu gehören. Nach ihm richtet euer Leben aus!
since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Genau das meint Gott, wenn er sagt: »Ihr sollt heilig sein, denn ich bin heilig.«
And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile,
Ihr betet zu Gott als eurem Vater und wisst, dass er jeden von euch nach seinem Verhalten richten wird; er bevorzugt oder benachteiligt niemanden. Deswegen führt euer Leben in Ehrfurcht vor Gott, solange ihr als Fremde mitten unter den Menschen lebt, die nicht an Christus glauben.
knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold,
Denn ihr wisst ja, was es Gott gekostet hat, euch aus der Sklaverei der Sünde zu befreien, aus einem sinnlosen Leben, wie es schon eure Vorfahren geführt haben. Er hat euch losgekauft, aber nicht mit vergänglichem Silber oder Gold,
but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
sondern mit dem kostbaren Blut eines unschuldigen und fehlerlosen Lammes, das für uns geopfert wurde — dem Blut von Christus.
He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you
Schon bevor Gott die Welt erschuf, hat er Christus zu diesem Opfer bestimmt. Aber erst jetzt, in dieser letzten Zeit, ist Christus euretwegen in die Welt gekommen.
who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Durch ihn habt ihr zum Glauben an Gott gefunden. Gott hat Jesus Christus von den Toten auferweckt und ihm seine göttliche Herrlichkeit gegeben. Deshalb setzt ihr jetzt euer Vertrauen und eure ganze Hoffnung auf Gott.
Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,
Ihr habt euch nun der Wahrheit, die Christus brachte, zugewandt und habt ihr gehorcht. Dadurch seid ihr innerlich rein geworden und befähigt, einander aufrichtig zu lieben. Handelt jetzt auch danach und liebt einander von ganzem Herzen.
since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;
Ihr seid ja neu geboren worden. Und das verdankt ihr nicht euren Eltern, die euch das irdische Leben schenkten; nein, Gottes lebendiges und ewiges Wort ist der Same, der neues, unvergängliches Leben in euch hervorgebracht hat.
