Mose sprach weiter zu den Israeliten:
And he said to them, “I am 120 years old today. I am no longer able to go out and come in. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not go over this Jordan.’
»Ich bin jetzt 120 Jahre alt und kann euch nicht länger führen. Außerdem hat der HERR mir verboten, den Jordan zu überqueren.
The Lord your God himself will go over before you. He will destroy these nations before you, so that you shall dispossess them, and Joshua will go over at your head, as the Lord has spoken.
Er selbst, der HERR, euer Gott, wird vor euch hergehen. Er wird die Völker, auf die ihr trefft, vernichten und euch helfen, ihr Land einzunehmen. Josua wird dabei die Führung übernehmen, wie der HERR es bestimmt hat.
And the Lord will do to them as he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, when he destroyed them.
Der HERR löscht die Völker dort genauso aus wie hier die Amoriter mit ihren Königen Sihon und Og.
And the Lord will give them over to you, and you shall do to them according to the whole commandment that I have commanded you.
Wenn er sie in eure Gewalt gibt, dann behandelt sie, wie er es euch durch mich befohlen hat.
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Seid mutig und stark! Habt keine Angst und lasst euch nicht von ihnen einschüchtern! Denn der HERR, euer Gott, geht mit euch. Er hält immer zu euch und lässt euch nicht im Stich!«
Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it.
Dann rief Mose Josua zu sich und sagte vor allen Israeliten zu ihm: »Sei mutig und stark! Denn du wirst dieses Volk in das Land bringen, das der HERR euch gibt, wie er es euren Vorfahren versprochen hat. Du wirst dieses Land unter den Israeliten aufteilen.
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
Der HERR selbst geht vor dir her. Er steht dir bei und verlässt dich nicht. Immer hält er zu dir. Hab keine Angst und lass dich von niemandem einschüchtern!«
The Reading of the Law
Then Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel.

Mose schrieb das ganze Gesetz auf und überreichte es den führenden Männern Israels und den Priestern vom Stamm Levi, die für die Bundeslade verantwortlich waren.
And Moses commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the set time in the year of release, at the Feast of Booths,
Er sagte zu ihnen: »Lest dieses Gesetz alle sieben Jahre, im Jahr des Schuldenerlasses, den Israeliten vor, wenn sie sich am Laubhüttenfest beim Heiligtum des HERRN versammeln.
Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law,
Ruft dann das ganze Volk zusammen, Männer, Frauen und Kinder und auch die Ausländer, die bei euch leben. Sie alle sollen das Gesetz hören. Sie sollen lernen, was darin steht, damit sie Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, haben und alle Gebote genau befolgen.
and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”
Auch die Kinder, die das Gesetz noch nicht kennen, sollen genau zuhören, damit sie stets dem HERRN, eurem Gott, in Ehrfurcht begegnen. Die Gebote sollen euer Leben in dem Land jenseits des Jordan bestimmen, das ihr nun in Besitz nehmt.«
Joshua Commissioned to Lead Israel
And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, the days approach when you must die. Call Joshua and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may commission him.” And Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.

Der HERR sprach zu Mose: »Hör zu! Du wirst nun bald sterben. Ruf Josua und komm mit ihm in mein heiliges Zelt! Ich will ihm jetzt Anweisungen für seine neue Aufgabe geben.« Mose und Josua gingen zum Heiligtum,
And the Lord appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud. And the pillar of cloud stood over the entrance of the tent.
und der HERR erschien am Eingang in der Wolkensäule.
And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers. Then this people will rise and whore after the foreign gods among them in the land that they are entering, and they will forsake me and break my covenant that I have made with them.
Er sprach zu Mose: »Nach deinem Tod werden die Israeliten mich verlassen und den Bund brechen, den ich mit ihnen geschlossen habe. Sie werden sich mit fremden Göttern einlassen, die sie in ihrem neuen Land kennen lernen.
Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?’
Doch damit fordern sie meinen Zorn heraus. Ich werde mich von ihnen abwenden und mich vor ihnen verbergen. Ihre Schuld müssen sie teuer bezahlen, Not und Elend wird über sie hereinbrechen. Sie werden sich fragen: ›Hat unser Gott uns verlassen? Ist das der Grund für unsere Not?‹
And I will surely hide my face in that day because of all the evil that they have done, because they have turned to other gods.
Ich aber werde mich völlig von ihnen zurückziehen, weil sie gegen mich gesündigt haben und anderen Göttern nachgelaufen sind.
“Now therefore write this song and teach it to the people of Israel. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the people of Israel.
Und nun sollt ihr ein Lied für die Israeliten aufschreiben. Sie sollen es lernen und singen. Dann können sie nicht sagen, sie hätten nicht gewusst, was ich von ihnen wollte.
For when I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to give to their fathers, and they have eaten and are full and grown fat, they will turn to other gods and serve them, and despise me and break my covenant.
Ich bringe die Israeliten jetzt in das Land, das ich ihren Vorfahren versprochen habe, ein Land, in dem es selbst Milch und Honig im Überfluss gibt. Sie werden dort essen, bis sie satt sind, ja, bis sie fett werden! Sie werden mich verachten und sich anderen Göttern zuwenden. Den Bund mit mir werden sie brechen und den Götzen dienen.
And when many evils and troubles have come upon them, this song shall confront them as a witness (for it will live unforgotten in the mouths of their offspring). For I know what they are inclined to do even today, before I have brought them into the land that I swore to give.”
Wenn dann großes Unheil über sie hereinbricht, wird dieses Lied ihnen zeigen, dass sie selbst schuld daran sind. Sie werden das Lied nie vergessen, jede Generation wird es der nächsten beibringen. Ich gebe es den Israeliten mit auf den Weg, denn ich weiß genau, was schon heute in ihnen vorgeht, bevor sie das versprochene Land überhaupt betreten haben.«
So Moses wrote this song the same day and taught it to the people of Israel.
Mose schrieb das Lied noch am selben Tag auf und brachte es den Israeliten bei.
Dann redete der Herr auch mit Josua, dem Sohn Nuns: »Sei stark und mutig! Denn du wirst die Israeliten in das Land bringen, das ich ihnen versprochen habe. Ich selbst werde dir beistehen.«
When Moses had finished writing the words of this law in a book to the very end,
Nachdem Mose das ganze Gesetz auf eine Schriftrolle geschrieben hatte,
Moses commanded the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord,
sagte er zu den Leviten, die für die Bundeslade des HERRN verantwortlich waren:
“Take this Book of the Law and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against you.
»Legt die Rolle mit dem Gesetz neben die Bundeslade des HERRN, eures Gottes. Sie klagt euch an, wenn ihr nicht das tut, was Gott von euch erwartet.
For I know how rebellious and stubborn you are. Behold, even today while I am yet alive with you, you have been rebellious against the Lord. How much more after my death!
Ich weiß, wie widerspenstig und eigensinnig ihr seid. Solange ich bei euch war, habt ihr euch immer wieder gegen den HERRN aufgelehnt. Wie wird es erst sein, wenn ich gestorben bin!
Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears and call heaven and earth to witness against them.
Alle führenden Männer eurer Sippen und Stämme sollen zu mir kommen. Sie sollen mit eigenen Ohren hören, was ich zu sagen habe. Himmel und Erde sind dabei meine Zeugen.
For I know that after my death you will surely act corruptly and turn aside from the way that I have commanded you. And in the days to come evil will befall you, because you will do what is evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger through the work of your hands.”
Denn ich weiß, dass ihr nach meinem Tod ins Verderben lauft und den Weg verlasst, den ich euch gewiesen habe. Am Ende werdet ihr ins Unglück stürzen, weil ihr tut, was dem HERRN missfällt, und damit seinen Zorn herausfordert.«
