Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All

Denn das Gesetz, das nur einen Schatten der künftigen Güter, nicht aber die Gestalt der Dinge selbst enthält, kann durch die immer gleichen, jährlich dargebrachten Opfer niemals diejenigen, die zu Gott hintreten, für immer zur Vollendung führen.
Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins?
Denn hätte man nicht aufgehört, Opfer darzubringen, wenn die Opfernden kein Sündenbewusstsein mehr gehabt hätten, da sie ja ein für alle Mal gereinigt worden wären?
But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.
Aber durch diese Opfer wird alljährlich nur an die Sünden erinnert,
For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Da sagte ich: Siehe, ich komme — so steht es über mich in der Schriftrolle — , um deinen Willen, Gott, zu tun.
When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law),
Zunächst sagt er: Schlacht- und Speiseopfer, Brand- und Sündopfer forderst du nicht, du hast daran kein Gefallen, obgleich sie doch nach dem Gesetz dargebracht werden;
then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second.
dann aber hat er gesagt: Siehe, ich komme, um deinen Willen zu tun. Er hebt das Erste auf, um das Zweite in Kraft zu setzen.
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Aufgrund dieses Willens sind wir durch die Hingabe des Leibes Jesu Christi geheiligt — ein für alle Mal.
And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
Und jeder Priester steht Tag für Tag da, versieht seinen Dienst und bringt viele Male die gleichen Opfer dar, die doch niemals Sünden wegnehmen können.
Dieser aber hat nur ein einziges Opfer für die Sünden dargebracht und sich dann für immer zur Rechten Gottes gesetzt;

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
Denn durch ein einziges Opfer hat er die, die geheiligt werden, für immer zur Vollendung geführt.
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,
Das bezeugt uns auch der Heilige Geist; nachdem er gesagt hat:
“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”

Dies ist der Bund, den ich nach diesen Tagen mit ihnen schließen werde — spricht der Herr: Ich lege meine Gesetze in ihr Herz und schreibe sie in ihr Denken hinein;

Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

So haben wir die Zuversicht, Brüder und Schwestern, durch das Blut Jesu in das Heiligtum einzutreten.

and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
Und da wir einen Hohepriester haben, der über das Haus Gottes gestellt ist,
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
lasst uns mit aufrichtigem Herzen und in voller Gewissheit des Glaubens hinzutreten, die Herzen durch Besprengung gereinigt vom schlechten Gewissen und den Leib gewaschen mit reinem Wasser!
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Lasst uns an dem unwandelbaren Bekenntnis der Hoffnung festhalten, denn er, der die Verheißung gegeben hat, ist treu!
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
Lasst uns aufeinander achten und uns zur Liebe und zu guten Taten anspornen!
not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Lasst uns nicht unseren Zusammenkünften fernbleiben, wie es einigen zur Gewohnheit geworden ist, sondern ermuntert einander, und das umso mehr, als ihr seht, dass der Tag naht!
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Denn wenn wir vorsätzlich sündigen, nachdem wir die Erkenntnis der Wahrheit empfangen haben, gibt es für diese Sünden kein Opfer mehr,
but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
sondern nur die schreckliche Erwartung des Gerichts und ein wütendes Feuer, das die Gegner verzehren wird.
Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.

How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
Meint ihr nicht, dass eine noch viel härtere Strafe der verdient, der den Sohn Gottes mit Füßen getreten, das Blut des Bundes, durch das er geheiligt wurde, verachtet und den Geist der Gnade geschmäht hat?

Wir kennen doch den, der gesagt hat: Mein ist die Rache, ich werde vergelten, und ferner: Der Herr wird sein Volk richten.
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Es ist furchtbar, in die Hände des lebendigen Gottes zu fallen.
But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings,
Erinnert euch an die früheren Tage, in denen ihr als Erleuchtete einen harten Leidenskampf auf euch genommen habt,
sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated.
da ihr durch Beschimpfungen und Bedrängnisse öffentlich zur Schau gestellt wurdet oder mitbetroffen gewesen seid vom Geschick derer, denen es so erging;
For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.
denn ihr habt mit den Gefangenen gelitten und auch den Raub eures Vermögens mit Freuden hingenommen, da ihr wusstet, dass ihr einen besseren und bleibenden Besitz habt.
Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
Werft also eure Zuversicht nicht weg — sie hat großen Lohn!
For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
Was ihr braucht, ist Ausdauer, damit ihr den Willen Gottes erfüllt und die Verheißung erlangt.
For,
“Yet a little while,
and the coming one will come and will not delay;

Denn nur noch eine ganz kurze Zeit, dann wird der kommen, der kommen soll, und er bleibt nicht aus.

Mein Gerechter aber wird aus Glauben leben; doch wenn er zurückweicht, hat meine Seele kein Gefallen an ihm.
