Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
Es stammt aus der Zeit, als David mit den Aramäern von Mesopotamien und mit den Aramäern von Zoba im Krieg lag. Damals fügte Joab auf dem Rückweg den Edomitern im Salztal eine Niederlage zu, bei der 12.000 von ihnen fielen.
Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.
Gott, du hast uns aufgegeben: Unsere Truppen wurden zersprengt und aufgerieben. Wir haben deinen Zorn zu spüren bekommen, doch nun richte uns wieder auf!
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
Du hast das Land erschüttert und zerrissen; heile seine Risse, damit es nicht zerbricht!
That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
Du hast dein Volk hart geschlagen, wie betrunken torkeln wir umher.
God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
All denen aber, die Ehrfurcht vor dir haben, hast du ein Warnzeichen gegeben. So konnten sie fliehen und den Pfeilen ihrer Verfolger entkommen.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;
Befreie uns — wir sind doch dein geliebtes Volk! Erhöre uns und komm uns zu Hilfe!
Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.
Gott hat in seinem Heiligtum versprochen: »Im Triumph will ich meinem Volk die Gegend um Sichem geben; das Tal von Sukkot will ich ihnen zuteilen.
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
Mir gehören die Gebiete von Gilead und Manasse, Ephraim ist der Helm auf meinem Kopf und Juda das Zepter in meiner Hand.
Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies?
Das Land Moab muss mir dienen, von Edom ergreife ich Besitz. Und auch du, Land der Philister, juble mir zu!«
Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
Mein Gott, ich frage dich nun: Wer gibt mir Gewalt über die befestigte Stadt? Wer schenkt mir den Sieg über Edom?
