The Lord Will Not Forget His People
O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.

O Gott, greif ein! HERR, du Gott der Vergeltung, erscheine in deinem strahlenden Glanz!
Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
Erhebe dich, du Richter der ganzen Welt! Gib den Hochmütigen, was sie verdienen!
LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
Wie lange noch sollen sie hämisch lachen, wie lange noch schadenfroh spotten?
How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
Einer versucht, den anderen zu überbieten, sie schwingen große Reden und prahlen mit ihren Verbrechen.
They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.
HERR, sie unterdrücken dein Volk! Alle, die zu dir gehören, leiden unter ihrer Gewalt.
They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.
Brutal ermorden sie Witwen und Waisen, schutzlose Ausländer schlagen sie tot.
Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.
»Der HERR sieht es ja doch nicht!«, höhnen sie, »der Gott Jakobs merkt nichts davon!«
Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
Ihr Dummköpfe! Seid ihr wirklich so unverständig? Wann kommt ihr Narren endlich zur Vernunft?
He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
Gott, der den Menschen Ohren gegeben hat — sollte er selbst nicht hören? Er gab ihnen Augen — sollte er selbst nicht sehen?
He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
Er, der mit den Völkern ins Gericht geht — sollte er nicht auch euch bestrafen? Ja, Gott bringt die Menschen zur Vernunft!
The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
Er durchschaut ihre Gedanken und weiß: Sie sind wertlos und führen zu nichts.
Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;
Glücklich ist der Mensch, den du, HERR, zurechtweist und den du in deinem Gesetz unterrichtest!
That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.
Denn du willst ihn bewahren, wenn die Bösen ihr Unwesen treiben, so lange, bis die Übeltäter zur Strecke gebracht sind.
For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.
Denn der HERR wird sein Volk nicht verstoßen; wer zu ihm gehört, den lässt er nicht im Stich.
But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
Gerechtigkeit und Recht werden wieder einkehren, und die aufrichtig mit Gott leben, werden sie willkommen heißen.
Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
Wer steht mir bei gegen all diese Verbrecher? Wer beschützt mich vor denen, die Böses tun?
Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
HERR, wenn du mir nicht geholfen hättest, dann wäre ich jetzt tot — für immer verstummt!
When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.
Sooft ich dachte: »Jetzt ist alles aus!«, halfst du mir in Liebe wieder auf.
In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
Als mir die Sorgen keine Ruhe mehr ließen, hast du mich getröstet und wieder froh gemacht.
Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?
Du hältst niemals zu den bestechlichen Richtern, die Unheil anrichten, indem sie das Gesetz missbrauchen.
They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
Sie aber verbünden sich gegen jeden, dem das Recht am Herzen liegt, und sprechen ihm sein Urteil, obwohl er doch unschuldig ist!
But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
Der HERR aber schützt mich wie eine sichere Burg, er ist der Fels, bei dem ich Zuflucht finde.
