The Fifth Plague: Livestock
Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Der HERR sprach zu Mose: »Geh noch einmal zum Pharao und sag ihm: Der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer, verlangt, dass du sein Volk freilässt; es soll ihm dienen!
For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,
Wenn du die Israeliten weiter festhältst und dich weigerst, sie ziehen zu lassen,
Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.
bekommst du seine mächtige Hand zu spüren: Er wird eine schlimme Seuche unter euren Viehherden ausbrechen lassen, die Pferde, Esel, Kamele, Rinder, Schafe und Ziegen dahinrafft.
And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel.
Und auch hier wird er zwischen euch und den Israeliten unterscheiden: Ihr Vieh wird er verschonen, kein einziges Tier werden sie verlieren.
And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.
Bereits morgen kommt der Zeitpunkt, an dem der HERR die Viehpest ausbrechen lässt!«
And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
Am nächsten Morgen machte der HERR seine Drohung wahr: Das Vieh der Ägypter begann zu sterben, doch die Israeliten verloren kein einziges Tier.
And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.
Der Pharao sandte Diener los, die sich davon überzeugen sollten. Sie stellten fest, dass in den Herden der Israeliten nicht ein einziges Tier fehlte! Doch der Pharao blieb unnachgiebig und ließ das Volk nicht ziehen.
The Sixth Plague: Boils
And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.

Der HERR befahl Mose und Aaron: »Nehmt beide Hände voll Ruß aus einem Ofen! Mose soll den Ruß vor den Augen des Pharaos in die Luft werfen.
And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.
Der Ruß wird zu einer schwarzen Wolke, die sich über Ägypten ausbreitet! Der Staub wird im ganzen Land an Menschen und Tieren eitrige Geschwüre ausbrechen lassen.«
And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.
Mose und Aaron holten Ruß aus einem Ofen und traten vor den Pharao. Mose warf den Ruß in die Luft, und nach kurzer Zeit litten Menschen und Tiere an schlimmen Geschwüren.
And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.
Die königlichen Zauberer konnten Mose nicht mehr entgegentreten, denn auch sie waren von Geschwüren befallen wie alle anderen Ägypter.
And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.
Doch der HERR ließ den Pharao starrsinnig bleiben. Er hörte nicht auf Mose und Aaron, wie der HERR es vorausgesagt hatte.
The Seventh Plague: Hail
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Der HERR sprach zu Mose: »Geh morgen früh zum Pharao und richte ihm aus: ›So spricht der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer: Lass mein Volk ziehen, es soll mir dienen!
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
Wenn du auch diesmal nicht auf mich hörst, werde ich solche Strafen über dich, deine Hofbeamten und dein ganzes Volk verhängen, dass du endlich einsehen musst: Niemand auf der Welt ist mir gleich!
For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.
Ich hätte schon längst meine Hand ausstrecken können, um dich und dein ganzes Volk mit der Pest zu bestrafen und vom Erdboden zu vertilgen!
And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
Aber ich habe dich am Leben gelassen, um dir meine Macht zu zeigen und meinen Namen in der ganzen Welt bekannt zu machen.
As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go?
Immer noch bist du hochmütig und weigerst dich, mein Volk ziehen zu lassen.
Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
Darum schicke ich morgen um diese Zeit den schlimmsten Hagel, den Ägypten in seiner Geschichte je gesehen hat!
Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
Sorg dafür, dass deine Knechte sich selbst und deine Viehherden draußen auf dem Land in Sicherheit bringen! Alle Menschen und Tiere, die nicht in Häusern oder Ställen Schutz gesucht haben, werden vom Hagel erschlagen.‹«
He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses:
Einige der ägyptischen Hofbeamten nahmen die Drohung des HERRN ernst. Sie ließen ihre Knechte und das Vieh schleunigst in die Häuser und Ställe bringen.
And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
Andere dagegen scherten sich nicht um Gottes Warnung; ihre Knechte und ihr Vieh mussten draußen auf den Weiden bleiben.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
Der HERR sprach zu Mose: »Streck deine Hand zum Himmel aus — dann wird ein Hagelsturm auf ganz Ägypten niedergehen, auf Menschen, Tiere und Pflanzen!«
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
Als Mose seinen Stab zum Himmel ausstreckte, schickte der HERR ein gewaltiges Gewitter; es hagelte, blitzte und donnerte.
So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
Der Hagel prasselte auf das Land nieder, und überall schlugen Blitze ein. Es war das schlimmste Unwetter, das Ägypten in seiner Geschichte je erlebt hatte;
And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.
es hatte im ganzen Land furchtbar gewütet: Auf den Feldern waren Menschen und Tiere vom Hagel erschlagen worden, die Äcker waren verwüstet, die Bäume zerschmettert.
Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.
Nur das Gebiet Goschen, in dem die Israeliten wohnten, war verschont geblieben.
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Da ließ der Pharao Mose und Aaron rufen. »Diesmal habe ich mich schuldig gemacht«, gab er zu. »Der HERR ist im Recht, ich und mein Volk sind im Unrecht.
Intreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.
Bittet den HERRN, dass er Gewitter und Hagel aufhören lässt! Ich verspreche euch: Ihr dürft aus meinem Land fortziehen! Niemand wird euch zurückhalten.«
And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD'S.
Mose antwortete: »Sobald ich die Stadt verlassen habe, will ich meine Hände erheben und zum HERRN beten. Dann werden Donner und Hagel aufhören. So sollst du erkennen, dass die Erde dem HERRN allein gehört.
But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.
Aber ich weiß: Du und deine Hofbeamten, ihr habt immer noch keine Ehrfurcht vor Gott, dem HERRN!«
And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled.
Das Unwetter hatte Flachs und Gerste vernichtet, denn die Gerste stand in Ähren, und der Flachs blühte.
But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up.
Aber Weizen und Dinkel blieben unbeschädigt, weil sie später gesät und geerntet werden.
And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.
Mose verließ den Pharao, ging zur Stadt hinaus und betete dort mit erhobenen Händen zum HERRN. Da hörten Regen, Donner und Hagel auf.
And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
Als der Pharao sah, dass das Unwetter vorüber war, änderte er seinen Entschluss und blieb starrsinnig, ebenso seine Beamten. Er weigerte sich, die Israeliten ziehen zu lassen, und lud so weiter Schuld auf sich. Genau so hatte es Mose im Auftrag des HERRN vorausgesagt.
