To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
Wenn du seine Worte beachtest, wirst du Weisheit erlangen und zu einem verständigen Menschen heranreifen. Die Sprüche helfen dir, dein Leben sinnvoll zu gestalten, und machen dich fähig, gute Ratschläge zu erkennen und anzunehmen.
To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
Durch sie gewinnst du Einsicht; du lernst, aufrichtig und ehrlich zu sein und andere gerecht zu behandeln.
To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
Wer jung und unerfahren ist, wird urteilsfähig, er bekommt ein Gespür für gute Entscheidungen.
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
Selbst wer schon über viel Wissen und Erfahrung verfügt, kann noch dazulernen. Neue Gedankenanstöße helfen ihm,
To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
die Aussprüche der weisen Lehrer zu verstehen und ihre verschlüsselten Worte und Bilder zu enträtseln.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Alle Erkenntnis beginnt damit, dass man Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN hat. Nur ein Dummkopf lehnt Weisheit ab und will sich nicht erziehen lassen.
The Enticement of Sin
My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Mein Sohn, hör auf deinen Vater und deine Mutter und schlag ihre Ermahnungen nicht in den Wind!
For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
Denn was du durch ihre Erziehung lernst, verleiht dir Würde und Anerkennung, ja, es schmückt dich wie eine schöne Halskette oder ein prächtiger Kranz.
My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
Wenn gottlose Leute dich beschwatzen, dann hör nicht auf sie!
If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
Sie wollen dich überreden und sagen: »Komm, wir legen uns auf die Lauer! Sobald jemand vorbeikommt, schlagen wir zu und bringen ihn einfach so um!
Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
Wir befördern sie alle ins Jenseits — so als hätte sie der Erdboden bei lebendigem Leib verschluckt!
We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
Denk an die Beute, die uns winkt, damit füllen wir unsere Häuser bis unters Dach!
Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
Mach doch mit, dann teilen wir alles unter uns auf!«
My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
Mein Sohn, geh nicht mit ihnen, gib dich mit solchen Leuten nicht ab!
For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
Denn sie haben nur Böses im Sinn und zögern nicht, Blut zu vergießen.
Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
Es ist sinnlos, ein Fangnetz vor den Augen der Vögel auszubreiten — sie fliegen davon.
And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
Ganz anders diese Verbrecher: Sie stellen sich selbst eine Falle und rennen auch noch hinein, ja, sie verspielen ihr eigenes Leben!
So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
So geht es jedem, der darauf aus ist, sich an fremdem Hab und Gut zu bereichern: Es wird ihn das Leben kosten.
Wisdom Calls Aloud
Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
Hört! Die Weisheit ruft laut auf den Straßen, auf den Marktplätzen erhebt sie ihre Stimme.
She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
Im Lärm der Stadt macht sie sich bemerkbar und ruft allen Menschen zu:
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
»Ihr Unverständigen! Wann kommt ihr endlich zur Vernunft? Wie lange noch wollt ihr spötteln und euch mit einem Lächeln über alles hinwegsetzen? Ist euch jede Einsicht verhasst?
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Hört, was ich euch sagen will! Dann überschütte ich euch mit dem Reichtum meiner Weisheit und teile mit euch meine Lebenserfahrung.
Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
Schon oft rief ich euch und bot meine Hilfe an, aber niemand hat je gehört.
But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
Jeden Rat verachtet ihr, über meine Weisungen rümpft ihr nur die Nase.
I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
Aber eines Tages bricht das Unheil über euch herein, dann lache ich euch aus und spotte über euer Elend.
When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
Wie ein Gewitter wird es euch überfallen, wie ein Sturm, der Angst und Schrecken mit sich bringt.
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
Dann werdet ihr um Hilfe schreien, ich aber antworte nicht. Ihr werdet mich überall suchen, aber ich lasse mich nicht mehr finden.
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
Denn euch ist alle Erkenntnis zuwider, ihr wollt dem HERRN nicht mit Ehrfurcht begegnen.
They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Jeden Rat und jede Ermahnung von mir weist ihr zurück —
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
dann tragt auch die Folgen eures Handelns, bis ihr genug davon habt!
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
Schon viele Unerfahrene fanden ein schlimmes Ende, weil sie mich verachteten, und viele Dummköpfe täuschten sich selbst durch ihre Sorglosigkeit.
