Du hast keinen Grund zur Freude, Israel! Du wirst nicht länger jubeln und Feste feiern wie die Völker ringsum! Denn du hast deinen Gott verlassen und läufst anderen Göttern nach, ja, du verkaufst dich an sie auf all deinen Dreschplätzen.
The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.
Doch Getreide und Wein werden zu Ende gehen, und auch Most wird es nicht mehr geben.
They shall not dwell in the LORD'S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
Ihr werdet nicht in diesem Land bleiben, das der HERR euch gegeben hat: Ihr Leute von Ephraim werdet nach Ägypten zurückkehren oder nach Assyrien verschleppt werden. Dort könnt ihr dem HERRN keine Trank- oder Schlachtopfer mehr darbringen. Denn alles, was ihr dort esst, ist unrein und wird euch unrein machen — wie Brot, das man in einem Trauerhaus verzehrt. Es stillt zwar euren Hunger, aber in den Tempel könnt ihr es nicht bringen.
What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?
Wie wollt ihr dann eure Feste zu Ehren des HERRN feiern?
For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.
Diejenigen von euch, die aus dem verwüsteten Land fliehen, werden in Ägypten den Tod finden und in Memfis begraben werden. Euer kostbares Silber wird von Unkraut überwuchert, und Dorngestrüpp wächst in euren Zelten.
The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
Die Zeit der Abrechnung ist gekommen; jetzt werdet ihr Israeliten für eure Taten bestraft! Ihr werdet schon sehen. Ihr sagt: »Der Prophet ist ein dummer Schwätzer, ja, der Mann ist von allen guten Geistern verlassen!« Weil ich eure große Schuld beim Namen nenne, bin ich euer Todfeind geworden.
The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.
Doch Gott hat mich zu einem Propheten gemacht, damit ich euch warne. Ihr aber versucht, mich wie einen Vogel in die Falle zu locken! Wo ich gehe und stehe, seid ihr hinter mir her, sogar im Haus meines Gottes.

Ihr seid durch und durch verdorben, wie damals die Leute von Gibea. Doch der Herr lässt euch nicht ungestraft davonkommen, sondern wird euch für eure Schuld zur Rechenschaft ziehen!

Der Herr sagt: »Als ich dem Volk Israel zum ersten Mal begegnete, da war es, als hätte ich Trauben in der Wüste gefunden. Eure Vorfahren waren für mich wie die ersten köstlichen Früchte des Feigenbaums. Doch bald liefen sie dem Gott Baal-Peor nach und verschrieben sich diesem abscheulichen Götzen, ja, sie wurden genau wie er!
As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.
Darum wird Ephraims Größe und Herrlichkeit so schnell schwinden, wie Vögel davonfliegen. Keine israelitische Frau wird mehr Nachwuchs bekommen, keine schwanger werden und ein Kind zur Welt bringen.
Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!
Die Kinder, die sie dann noch großziehen, lasse ich sterben. Kein Einziges wird übrig bleiben. Ja, wehe den Israeliten, wenn ich ihnen den Rücken kehre!
Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.
Ich hatte Ephraim wie eine junge Palme auf fruchtbarem Boden gepflanzt. Doch nun muss es seine Söhne an ihre Mörder ausliefern.«
Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
Ach, HERR, musst du sie wirklich zur Rechenschaft ziehen? Dann strafe sie damit, dass sie unfruchtbar werden und nie wieder ein Kind stillen können!
All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.
Der Herr sagt: »In Gilgal hat sich gezeigt, wie verdorben sie sind, ja, dort habe ich angefangen, sie für ihre Bosheit und ihre Verbrechen zu hassen. Darum vertreibe ich sie jetzt aus meinem Land, ich will sie nicht länger lieben! Die führenden Männer des Volkes lehnen sich allesamt gegen mich auf.
Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.
Ephraim ist wie ein toter Baum, seine Wurzeln sind vertrocknet, seine Zweige ohne Früchte. Und selbst wenn diesem Volk noch Kinder geboren werden, töte ich sie, ja, ich vernichte, was ihnen lieb und teuer ist!«
