Woe to the Complacent in Zion
Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

Wehe euch, die ihr so sorglos und stolz auf dem Berg Zion und auf dem Berg von Samaria lebt! Ihr bildet euch etwas darauf ein, zum bedeutendsten Volk zu gehören und angesehene Männer zu sein, auf deren Rat ganz Israel hört.
Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
Ihr sagt zu den Leuten: »Geht doch einmal hinüber zur Stadt Kalne, dann weiter nach Hamat und von dort zur Philisterstadt Gat! Sind Israel und Juda nicht angesehener als sie? Ist unser Gebiet nicht größer als ihres?«
Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
Ihr denkt, euch könnte nichts Böses geschehen, mit Unrecht und Gewalt wollt ihr eure Macht festigen.
That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
Ihr räkelt euch auf weich gepolsterten, elfenbeinverzierten Betten und esst das beste Fleisch von Lämmern und Kälbern.
That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
Zu den Klängen der Harfe schmettert ihr eure Lieder und meint, ihr könntet wie David musizieren.
That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
Den Wein trinkt ihr aus schweren Pokalen und salbt euch nur mit den feinsten Ölen — aber dass euer Volk dem Untergang entgegengeht, kümmert euch überhaupt nicht!
Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
Darum werdet ihr die Ersten sein, die in die Verbannung gehen. Dann ist es aus mit euren Trinkgelagen auf weichen Betten!

So spricht der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: »Ich hasse den Hochmut der Nachkommen von Jakob, ich verabscheue ihre prachtvollen Häuser! Darum liefere ich Samaria mit allen seinen Einwohnern den Feinden aus. Das schwöre ich, der HERR über alles, so wahr ich lebe!
And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.
Und wenn in einem Haus zehn Menschen überlebt haben, müssen sie doch noch sterben!
And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.
Kommt dann ein Verwandter von ihnen, um die Leichen aus dem Haus zu holen und zu verbrennen, findet er vielleicht noch einen Überlebenden, der sich ins hinterste Zimmer verkrochen hat. Er fragt ihn: ›Ist noch jemand bei dir?‹, und bekommt zur Antwort: ›Nein, niemand mehr!‹ Dann flüstert der Verwandte: ›Sei still, nenne bloß nicht den Namen des HERRN, sonst bringt er dich auch noch um!‹
For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
Denn ich, der HERR, befehle, dass von den großen Prunkbauten bis hin zu den kleinen Wohnhäusern alles in Trümmer gelegt wird.
Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:
Kann man etwa mit Pferden über Felsblöcke galoppieren oder mit Rindern die Felsen umpflügen? Ihr aber verwandelt das Recht in Unrecht — eure Urteile sind ein tödliches Gift!
Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?
Ihr freut euch, weil ihr Lo-Dabar eingenommen habt, und prahlt: ›Aus eigener Kraft haben wir Karnajim zurückerobert!‹
But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
Jetzt aber sage ich, der HERR, der allmächtige Gott: Ich lasse ein Volk über euch herfallen, das euch besiegen und die Bevölkerung im ganzen Land unterdrücken wird — von Lebo-Hamat bis ans Tote Meer!«
