Und er antwortete ihnen: Meint ihr, dass diese Galiläer größere Sünder waren als alle anderen Galiläer, weil das mit ihnen geschehen ist?
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Nein, sage ich euch, vielmehr werdet ihr alle genauso umkommen, wenn ihr nicht umkehrt.
Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

Und er erzählte ihnen dieses Gleichnis: Ein Mann hatte in seinem Weinberg einen Feigenbaum gepflanzt; und als er kam und nachsah, ob er Früchte trug, fand er keine.
Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
Da sagte er zu seinem Winzer: Siehe, jetzt komme ich schon drei Jahre und sehe nach, ob dieser Feigenbaum Früchte trägt, und finde nichts. Hau ihn um! Was soll er weiter dem Boden seine Kraft nehmen?
And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
Der Winzer erwiderte: Herr, lass ihn dieses Jahr noch stehen; ich will den Boden um ihn herum aufgraben und düngen.
And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
Vielleicht trägt er in Zukunft Früchte; wenn nicht, dann lass ihn umhauen!
Jesus Heals a Woman on the Sabbath
And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
Und siehe, da war eine Frau, die seit achtzehn Jahren krank war, weil sie von einem Geist geplagt wurde; sie war ganz verkrümmt und konnte nicht mehr aufrecht gehen.
And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
Als Jesus sie sah, rief er sie zu sich und sagte: Frau, du bist von deinem Leiden erlöst.
And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
Und er legte ihr die Hände auf. Im gleichen Augenblick richtete sie sich auf und pries Gott.
And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
Der Synagogenvorsteher aber war empört darüber, dass Jesus am Sabbat heilte, und sagte zu den Leuten: Sechs Tage sind zum Arbeiten da. Kommt also an diesen Tagen und lasst euch heilen, nicht am Sabbat!
The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
Der Herr erwiderte ihm: Ihr Heuchler! Bindet nicht jeder von euch am Sabbat seinen Ochsen oder Esel von der Krippe los und führt ihn zur Tränke?
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
Diese Frau aber, die eine Tochter Abrahams ist und die der Satan schon seit achtzehn Jahren gefesselt hielt, sollte am Sabbat nicht davon befreit werden dürfen?
And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
Durch diese Worte wurden alle seine Gegner beschämt; das ganze Volk aber freute sich über all die großen Taten, die er vollbrachte.
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

Er aber sagte: Wem ist das Reich Gottes ähnlich, womit soll ich es vergleichen?
It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.
Es ist wie ein Senfkorn, das ein Mann nahm und in seinen Garten säte; es wuchs und wurde zu einem Baum und die Vögel des Himmels nisteten in seinen Zweigen.
The Parable of the Leaven
And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

Noch einmal sagte er: Womit soll ich das Reich Gottes vergleichen?
It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Bemüht euch mit allen Kräften, durch die enge Tür zu gelangen; denn viele, sage ich euch, werden versuchen hineinzukommen, aber es wird ihnen nicht gelingen.
When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
Wenn der Herr des Hauses aufsteht und die Tür verschließt und ihr draußen steht, an die Tür klopft und ruft: Herr, mach uns auf!, dann wird er euch antworten: Ich weiß nicht, woher ihr seid.
Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
Dann werdet ihr anfangen zu sagen: Wir haben doch in deinem Beisein gegessen und getrunken und du hast auf unseren Straßen gelehrt.
But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
Er aber wird euch erwidern: Ich weiß nicht, woher ihr seid. Weg von mir, ihr habt alle Unrecht getan!
There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
Dort wird Heulen und Zähneknirschen sein, wenn ihr seht, dass Abraham, Isaak und Jakob und alle Propheten im Reich Gottes sind, ihr selbst aber ausgeschlossen seid.
And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
Und sie werden von Osten und Westen und von Norden und Süden kommen und im Reich Gottes zu Tisch sitzen.
And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

Lament over Jerusalem
The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

Zur selben Stunde kamen einige Pharisäer und sagten zu ihm: Geh weg, zieh fort von hier, denn Herodes will dich töten.
And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
Er antwortete ihnen: Geht und sagt diesem Fuchs: Siehe, ich treibe Dämonen aus und vollbringe Heilungen, heute und morgen, und am dritten Tag werde ich vollendet.
Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
Doch heute und morgen und am folgenden Tag muss ich weiterwandern; denn ein Prophet darf nicht außerhalb Jerusalems umkommen.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, du tötest die Propheten und steinigst die Boten, die zu dir gesandt sind. Wie oft wollte ich deine Kinder sammeln, so wie eine Henne ihre Küken unter ihre Flügel nimmt; aber ihr habt nicht gewollt.
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Siehe, euer Haus wird euch selbst überlassen. Ich sage euch: Ihr werdet mich nicht mehr sehen, bis die Zeit kommt, in der ihr ruft: Gepriesen sei er, der kommt im Namen des Herrn!
