The Greatest Commandment
Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:

Und das ist das Gebot, das sind die Gesetze und Rechtsentscheide, die ich euch im Auftrag des HERRN, eures Gottes, lehren soll und die ihr halten sollt in dem Land, in das ihr hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen,
That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
damit du dort den HERRN, deinen Gott, fürchtest, indem du alle seine Satzungen und Gebote, auf die ich dich verpflichte, dein ganzes Leben lang bewahrst, du, dein Sohn und dein Enkel, und damit du lange lebst.
Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
Deshalb sollst du hören, Israel, und sollst darauf achten, sie zu halten, damit es dir gut geht und ihr so unermesslich zahlreich werdet, wie es der HERR, der Gott deiner Väter, dir zugesagt hat: ein Land, wo Milch und Honig fließen!
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Höre, Israel! Der HERR, unser Gott, der HERR ist einzig.
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Darum sollst du den HERRN, deinen Gott, lieben mit ganzem Herzen, mit ganzer Seele und mit ganzer Kraft.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
Und diese Worte, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte, sollen auf deinem Herzen geschrieben stehen.
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Du sollst sie deinen Kindern wiederholen. Du sollst sie sprechen, wenn du zu Hause sitzt und wenn du auf der Straße gehst, wenn du dich schlafen legst und wenn du aufstehst.
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
Du sollst sie als Zeichen um das Handgelenk binden. Sie sollen zum Schmuck auf deiner Stirn werden.
And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Du sollst sie auf die Türpfosten deines Hauses und in deine Stadttore schreiben.
And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
Und wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dich in das Land geführt hat, von dem du weißt: er hat deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen, es dir zu geben — große und schöne Städte, die du nicht gebaut hast,
And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
mit allen Gütern gefüllte Häuser, die du nicht gefüllt hast, ausgehauene Zisternen, die du nicht ausgehauen hast, Weinberge und Ölbäume, die du nicht gepflanzt hast — , wenn du dann isst und satt wirst:
Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
nimm dich in Acht, dass du nicht den HERRN vergisst, der dich aus Ägypten, dem Sklavenhaus, geführt hat!
Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
Den HERRN, deinen Gott, sollst du fürchten; ihm sollst du dienen, bei seinem Namen sollst du schwören.
Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
Ihr sollt nicht anderen Göttern nachfolgen, keinem Gott eines Volkes, das in eurer Nachbarschaft wohnt.
(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist als eifersüchtiger Gott in deiner Mitte. Der Zorn des HERRN, deines Gottes, könnte gegen dich entbrennen, er könnte dich im ganzen Land vernichten.
Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
Ihr sollt den HERRN, euren Gott, nicht auf die Probe stellen, wie ihr ihn bei Massa auf die Probe gestellt habt.
Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
Ihr sollt die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, genau bewahren, seine Eidesbestimmungen und Gesetze, auf die er dich verpflichtet hat.
And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
Du sollst tun, was in seinen Augen richtig und gut ist. Dann wird es dir gut gehen und du kannst in das prächtige Land, das der HERR deinen Vätern mit einem Schwur versprochen hat, hineinziehen und es in Besitz nehmen.
To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
Der HERR wird alle deine Feinde vor dir herjagen, wie er es zugesagt hat.
Teach Your Children
And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?

Wenn dich morgen dein Kind fragt: Warum achtet ihr auf die Eidesbestimmungen und die Gesetze und die Rechtsentscheide, auf die der HERR, unser Gott, euch verpflichtet hat?,
Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
dann sollst du deinem Kind antworten: Wir waren Sklaven des Pharao in Ägypten und der HERR hat uns mit starker Hand aus Ägypten geführt.
And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
Der HERR hat vor unseren Augen gewaltige, unheilvolle Zeichen und Wunder an Ägypten, am Pharao und an seinem ganzen Haus getan,
And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
uns aber hat er dort herausgeführt, um uns in das Land, das er unseren Vätern mit einem Schwur versprochen hatte, hineinzuführen und es uns zu geben.
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
Der HERR hat uns verpflichtet, alle diese Gesetze zu halten und den HERRN, unseren Gott, zu fürchten, damit es uns alle Tage gut geht und er für unser Leben aufkommt wie am heutigen Tag.
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
Nur dann werden wir vor Gott im Recht sein, wenn wir darauf achten, dieses ganze Gebot vor dem HERRN, unserem Gott, so zu halten, wie er es uns zur Pflicht gemacht hat.
