Reaffirm Your Love
But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

Denn ich entschloss mich, nicht noch einmal zu euch zu kommen und euch zu betrüben.
For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
Wenn ich euch nämlich betrübe, wer wird mich dann erfreuen? Etwa der, den ich selbst betrübt habe?
And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
Und eben dies habe ich geschrieben, um nicht bei meinem Kommen von denen betrübt zu werden, die mich erfreuen sollten; ich bin sicher, dass meine Freude auch die Freude von euch allen ist.
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
Denn ich schrieb euch aus großer Bedrängnis und Herzensnot, unter vielen Tränen, nicht um euch zu betrüben, nein, um euch meine übergroße Liebe spüren zu lassen.
But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
Wenn aber einer Betrübnis verursacht hat, hat er nicht mich betrübt, sondern mehr oder weniger — um nicht zu übertreiben — euch alle.
Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
Die Strafe, die dem Schuldigen von der Mehrheit auferlegt wurde, soll genügen.
So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
Deshalb sollt ihr jetzt lieber verzeihen und trösten, damit ein solcher nicht von allzu großer Traurigkeit überwältigt wird.
Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.
Darum bitte ich euch, ihm gegenüber Liebe walten zu lassen.
For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
Gerade deswegen habe ich euch ja auch geschrieben, weil ich wissen wollte, ob ihr wirklich in allen Stücken gehorsam seid.

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

hatte mein Geist dennoch keine Ruhe, weil ich meinen Bruder Titus nicht fand. So nahm ich Abschied von ihnen und reiste nach Mazedonien.
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
Dank sei Gott, der uns stets im Triumphzug Christi mitführt und durch uns den Geruch seiner Erkenntnis an allen Orten verbreitet!
For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
Denn wir sind Christi Wohlgeruch für Gott unter denen, die gerettet werden, wie unter denen, die verloren gehen.
To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
Den einen sind wir Todesgeruch, der Tod bringt; den anderen Lebensgeruch, der Leben bringt. Wer aber ist dazu fähig?
