Fangen wir schon wieder an, uns selbst zu empfehlen? Oder brauchen wir — wie gewisse Leute — Empfehlungsschreiben an euch oder von euch?
Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
Unser Brief seid ihr; eingeschrieben in unsere Herzen und von allen Menschen erkannt und gelesen.
Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
Unverkennbar seid ihr ein Brief Christi, ausgefertigt durch unseren Dienst, geschrieben nicht mit Tinte, sondern mit dem Geist des lebendigen Gottes, nicht auf Tafeln aus Stein, sondern — wie auf Tafeln — in Herzen von Fleisch.
And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
Wir haben durch Christus so großes Vertrauen zu Gott.
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Doch sind wir dazu nicht von uns aus fähig, als ob wir uns selbst etwas zuschreiben könnten; unsere Befähigung stammt vielmehr von Gott.
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
Er hat uns fähig gemacht, Diener des Neuen Bundes zu sein, nicht des Buchstabens, sondern des Geistes. Denn der Buchstabe tötet, der Geist aber macht lebendig.

But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

Wenn aber schon der Dienst des Todes, dessen Buchstaben in Stein gemeißelt waren, so herrlich war, dass die Israeliten das Gesicht des Mose nicht anschauen konnten, weil es eine Herrlichkeit ausstrahlte, die doch vergänglich war,
How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
wie sollte da der Dienst des Geistes nicht viel herrlicher sein?
For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
Denn wenn schon der Dienst der Verurteilung herrlich war, so ist der Dienst der Gerechtigkeit noch viel herrlicher.
For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
Eigentlich ist das Verherrlichte nämlich in diesem Fall gar nicht verherrlicht angesichts der überragenden Herrlichkeit.
For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
Wenn nämlich schon das Vergängliche in Herrlichkeit erschien: Die Herrlichkeit des Bleibenden wird es überstrahlen.
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
Weil wir also eine solche Hoffnung haben, treten wir mit großem Freimut auf,
And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
nicht wie Mose, der über sein Gesicht eine Hülle legte, damit die Israeliten das Ende des Vergänglichen nicht sahen.
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
Doch ihr Denken wurde verhärtet. Denn bis zum heutigen Tag liegt die gleiche Hülle auf dem Alten Bund, wenn daraus vorgelesen wird; sie wird nicht aufgedeckt, weil sie in Christus beseitigt wird.
But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
Bis heute liegt die Hülle auf ihrem Herzen, wenn Mose vorgelesen wird.
Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
Sobald er aber zum Herrn zurückkehrt, wird die Hülle entfernt.
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Der Herr aber ist der Geist; wo aber der Geist des Herrn ist, da ist Freiheit.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Wir alle aber schauen mit enthülltem Angesicht die Herrlichkeit des Herrn wie in einem Spiegel und werden so in sein eigenes Bild verwandelt, von Herrlichkeit zu Herrlichkeit, durch den Geist des Herrn.
