Unity in the Body
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

Ich, der Gefangene im Herrn, ermahne euch, ein Leben zu führen, das des Rufes würdig ist, der an euch erging.
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Seid demütig, friedfertig und geduldig, ertragt einander in Liebe
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
und bemüht euch, die Einheit des Geistes zu wahren durch das Band des Friedens!
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Ein Leib und ein Geist, wie ihr auch berufen seid zu einer Hoffnung in eurer Berufung:
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
ein Gott und Vater aller, der über allem und durch alles und in allem ist.
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Aber jeder von uns empfing die Gnade in dem Maß, wie Christus sie ihm geschenkt hat.
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Deshalb heißt es: Er stieg hinauf zur Höhe und erbeutete Gefangene, er gab den Menschen Geschenke.
(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Wenn es heißt: Er stieg aber hinauf, was bedeutet dies anderes, als dass er auch zur Erde herabstieg?
He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
Derselbe, der herabstieg, ist auch hinaufgestiegen über alle Himmel, um das All zu erfüllen.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Und er setzte die einen als Apostel ein, andere als Propheten, andere als Evangelisten, andere als Hirten und Lehrer,
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
um die Heiligen für die Erfüllung ihres Dienstes zuzurüsten, für den Aufbau des Leibes Christi,
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
bis wir alle zur Einheit im Glauben und der Erkenntnis des Sohnes Gottes gelangen, zum vollkommenen Menschen, zur vollen Größe, die der Fülle Christi entspricht.
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Wir sollen nicht mehr unmündige Kinder sein, ein Spiel der Wellen, geschaukelt und getrieben von jedem Widerstreit der Lehrmeinungen, im Würfelspiel der Menschen, in Verschlagenheit, die in die Irre führt.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Wir aber wollen, von der Liebe geleitet, die Wahrheit bezeugen und in allem auf ihn hin wachsen. Er, Christus, ist das Haupt.
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Von ihm her wird der ganze Leib zusammengefügt und gefestigt durch jedes Gelenk. Jedes versorgt ihn mit der Kraft, die ihm zugemessen ist. So wächst der Leib und baut sich selbst in Liebe auf.
Living as Children of Light
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Das also sage ich und beschwöre euch im Herrn: Lebt nicht mehr wie die Heiden in ihrem nichtigen Denken!
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Sie sind verfinstert in ihrem Sinn. Sie sind dem Leben Gottes entfremdet durch die Unwissenheit, in der sie befangen sind, durch die Verhärtung ihres Herzens.
Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
In ihrer Haltlosigkeit gaben sie sich der Ausschweifung hin, um jede Art von Unreinheit in Habgier zu vollführen.
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Ihr habt doch von ihm gehört und seid unterrichtet worden, wie es Wahrheit ist in Jesus.
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Legt den alten Menschen des früheren Lebenswandels ab, der sich in den Begierden des Trugs zugrunde richtet,
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
und lasst euch erneuern durch den Geist in eurem Denken!
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Zieht den neuen Menschen an, der nach dem Bild Gottes geschaffen ist in wahrer Gerechtigkeit und Heiligkeit!
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Legt deshalb die Lüge ab und redet die Wahrheit, jeder mit seinem Nächsten; denn wir sind als Glieder miteinander verbunden.
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Wenn ihr zürnt, sündigt nicht! Die Sonne soll über eurem Zorn nicht untergehen.
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Der Dieb soll nicht mehr stehlen, vielmehr soll er sich abmühen und mit seinen Händen etwas verdienen, damit er den Notleidenden davon geben kann.
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Über eure Lippen komme kein böses Wort, sondern nur ein gutes, das den, der es braucht, auferbaut und denen, die es hören, Nutzen bringt!
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Betrübt nicht den Heiligen Geist Gottes, den ihr als Siegel empfangen habt für den Tag der Erlösung!
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Jede Art von Bitterkeit und Wut und Zorn und Geschrei und Lästerung mit allem Bösen verbannt aus eurer Mitte!
