This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Deshalb soll der Bischof untadelig, Mann einer einzigen Frau, nüchtern, besonnen sein, von würdiger Haltung, gastfreundlich, fähig zu lehren;
Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
er sei kein Trinker und kein gewalttätiger Mensch, sondern rücksichtsvoll; er sei nicht streitsüchtig und nicht geldgierig.
One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
Er muss seinem eigenen Haus gut vorstehen, seine Kinder in Gehorsam und allem Anstand erziehen.
(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
Wenn einer seinem eigenen Haus nicht vorstehen kann, wie soll der für die Kirche Gottes sorgen?

sie sollen mit reinem Gewissen am Geheimnis des Glaubens festhalten.
And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
Auch sie soll man vorher prüfen, und nur wenn sie unbescholten sind, sollen sie ihren Dienst ausüben.
Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
Ebenso müssen Frauen ehrbar sein, nicht verleumderisch, sondern nüchtern und in allem zuverlässig.
Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
Diakone sollen Männer einer einzigen Frau sein und ihren Kindern und ihrem eigenen Haus gut vorstehen.
For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Denn wer seinen Dienst gut versieht, erlangt einen hohen Rang und große Zuversicht im Glauben an Christus Jesus.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Wahrhaftig, groß ist das Geheimnis unserer Frömmigkeit: Er wurde offenbart im Fleisch, gerechtfertigt durch den Geist, geschaut von den Engeln, verkündet unter den Völkern, geglaubt in der Welt, aufgenommen in die Herrlichkeit.
