Abram Journeys to Egypt
Now the LORD said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;

Der HERR sprach zu Abram: Geh fort aus deinem Land, aus deiner Verwandtschaft und aus deinem Vaterhaus in das Land, das ich dir zeigen werde!
And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
Ich werde dich zu einem großen Volk machen, dich segnen und deinen Namen groß machen. Ein Segen sollst du sein.
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Ich werde segnen, die dich segnen; wer dich verwünscht, den werde ich verfluchen. Durch dich sollen alle Sippen der Erde Segen erlangen.
So Abram went forth as the LORD had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
Da ging Abram, wie der HERR ihm gesagt hatte, und mit ihm ging auch Lot. Abram war fünfundsiebzig Jahre alt, als er von Haran auszog.
Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had accumulated, and the persons which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan; thus they came to the land of Canaan.
Abram nahm seine Frau Sarai mit, seinen Neffen Lot und alle ihre Habe, die sie erworben hatten, und alle, die sie in Haran hinzugewonnen hatten. Sie zogen aus, um in das Land Kanaan zu gehen, und sie kamen in das Land Kanaan.
Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.
Abram zog durch das Land bis zur Stätte von Sichem, bis zur Orakeleiche. Die Kanaaniter waren damals im Land.
The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him.
Der HERR erschien Abram und sprach: Deinen Nachkommen gebe ich dieses Land. Dort baute er dem HERRN, der ihm erschienen war, einen Altar.
Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the LORD and called upon the name of the LORD.
Von da brach er auf zu dem Gebirge östlich von Bet-El und schlug sein Zelt so auf, dass er Bet-El im Westen und Ai im Osten hatte. Dort baute er dem HERRN einen Altar und rief den Namen des HERRN an.
Now there was a famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land.
Es kam aber eine Hungersnot über das Land. Da zog Abram nach Ägypten hinab, um sich dort als Fremder niederzulassen; denn die Hungersnot lastete schwer auf dem Land.
It came about when he came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman;
Als er sich Ägypten näherte, sagte er zu seiner Frau Sarai: Ich weiß, du bist eine Frau von großer Schönheit.
and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.
Wenn dich die Ägypter sehen, werden sie sagen: Das ist seine Frau! Und sie werden mich töten, dich aber am Leben lassen.
“Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I may live on account of you.”
Sag doch, du seist meine Schwester, damit es mir deinetwegen gut geht und ich um deinetwillen am Leben bleibe.
It came about when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.
Als Abram nach Ägypten kam, sahen die Ägypter, dass die Frau überaus schön war.
Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
Die Beamten des Pharao sahen sie und rühmten sie vor dem Pharao. Da wurde die Frau in das Haus des Pharao genommen.
Therefore he treated Abram well for her sake; and gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels.
Er behandelte Abram ihretwegen gut: Er bekam Schafe und Ziegen, Rinder und Esel, Knechte und Mägde, Eselinnen und Kamele.
But the LORD struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
Doch der HERR schlug den Pharao und sein Haus wegen Sarai, der Frau Abrams, mit schweren Plagen.
Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
Da rief der Pharao Abram und sagte: Was hast du mir da angetan? Warum hast du mir nicht kundgetan, dass sie deine Frau ist?
“Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go.”
Warum hast du behauptet: Sie ist meine Schwester, sodass ich sie mir zur Frau nahm? Jetzt aber, siehe, da hast du deine Frau wieder, nimm sie und geh!
