Sarai and Hagar
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife had borne him no children, and she had an Egyptian maid whose name was Hagar.

Sarai, Abrams Frau, hatte ihm nicht geboren. Sie hatte aber eine ägyptische Sklavin. Ihr Name war Hagar.
So Sarai said to Abram, “Now behold, the LORD has prevented me from bearing children. Please go in to my maid; perhaps I will obtain children through her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.
Da sagte Sarai zu Abram: Siehe, der HERR hat mir das Gebären verwehrt. Geh zu meiner Sklavin! Vielleicht komme ich durch sie zu einem Sohn. Abram hörte auf die Stimme Sarais.
After Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Abram’s wife Sarai took Hagar the Egyptian, her maid, and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife.
Sarai, Abrams Frau, nahm also die Ägypterin Hagar, ihre Sklavin, zehn Jahre, nachdem sich Abram im Land Kanaan niedergelassen hatte, und gab sie Abram, ihrem Mann, zur Frau.
He went in to Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her sight.
Er ging zu Hagar und sie wurde schwanger. Als sie sah, dass sie schwanger war, galt ihre Herrin in ihren Augen nichts mehr.
And Sarai said to Abram, “May the wrong done me be upon you. I gave my maid into your arms, but when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her sight. May the LORD judge between you and me.”
Da sagte Sarai zu Abram: Das Unrecht, das ich erfahre, komme über dich! Ich selbst habe meine Sklavin in deinen Schoß gegeben. Aber kaum sieht sie, dass sie schwanger ist, und schon gelte ich in ihren Augen nichts mehr. Der HERR richte zwischen mir und dir.
But Abram said to Sarai, “Behold, your maid is in your power; do to her what is good in your sight.” So Sarai treated her harshly, and she fled from her presence.
Da sagte Abram zu Sarai: Siehe, sie ist deine Sklavin, sie ist in deiner Hand. Tu mit ihr, was in deinen Augen gut erscheint! Da misshandelte Sarai sie und Hagar lief ihr davon.
Now the angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur.
Der Engel des HERRN fand sie an einer Wasserquelle in der Wüste, an der Quelle auf dem Weg nach Schur.
He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from and where are you going?” And she said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”
Er sprach: Hagar, Sklavin Sarais, woher kommst du und wohin gehst du? Sie sagte: Vor Sarai, meiner Herrin, bin ich davongelaufen.
Then the angel of the LORD said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself to her authority.”
Da sprach der Engel des HERRN zu ihr: Kehr zurück zu deiner Herrin und beuge dich unter ihre Hand!
Moreover, the angel of the LORD said to her, “I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count.”
Der Engel des HERRN sprach zu ihr: Mehren, ja mehren werde ich deine Nachkommen, sodass man sie wegen ihrer Menge nicht mehr zählen kann.
The angel of the LORD said to her further,
“Behold, you are with child,
And you will bear a son;
And you shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the LORD has given heed to your affliction.
“Behold, you are with child,
And you will bear a son;
And you shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the LORD has given heed to your affliction.
Weiter sprach der Engel des HERRN zu ihr: Siehe, du bist schwanger, du wirst einen Sohn gebären und du sollst ihm den Namen Ismael — Gott hört — geben, denn der HERR hat dich in deinem Leid gehört.
“He will be a wild donkey of a man,
His hand will be against everyone,
And everyone’s hand will be against him;
And he will live to the east of all his brothers.”
His hand will be against everyone,
And everyone’s hand will be against him;
And he will live to the east of all his brothers.”
Er wird ein Mensch sein wie ein Wildesel. Seine Hand auf allen, die Hand aller auf ihm! Allen seinen Brüdern gegenüber wird er wohnen.
Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees”; for she said, “Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?”
Da nannte sie den Namen des HERRN, der zu ihr gesprochen hatte: Du bist El-Roï — Gott schaut auf mich — . Denn sie sagte: Gewiss habe ich dem nachgeschaut, der auf mich schaut!
Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
Deswegen nennt man den Brunnen Beer-Lahai-Roï — Brunnen des Lebendigen, der auf mich schaut — . Siehe, er liegt zwischen Kadesch und Bered.
So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
Hagar gebar dem Abram einen Sohn. Und Abram gab seinem Sohn, den ihm Hagar geboren hatte, den Namen Ismael.
