King Rehoboam Acts Foolishly
Then Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

Now when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, he was living in Egypt (for he was yet in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon).
Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, hörte davon, während er noch in Ägypten war, wohin er vor dem König Salomo hatte fliehen müssen; er blieb in Ägypten.
Then they sent and called him, and Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
Man sandte zu ihm und ließ ihn rufen. So kamen also Jerobeam und die ganze Versammlung Israels und sagten zu Rehabeam:
“Your father made our yoke hard; now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you.”
Dein Vater hat uns ein hartes Joch auferlegt. Erleichtere du jetzt den harten Dienst deines Vaters und das schwere Joch, das er uns auferlegt hat! Dann wollen wir dir dienen.
Then he said to them, “Depart for three days, then return to me.” So the people departed.
Er antwortete ihnen: Geht weg und kommt nach drei Tagen wieder zu mir! Als sich das Volk entfernt hatte,
King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon while he was still alive, saying, “How do you counsel me to answer this people?”
beriet sich König Rehabeam mit den älteren Männern, die zu Lebzeiten seines Vaters Salomo in dessen Dienst gestanden hatten. Er fragte sie: Welchen Rat gebt ihr mir? Was soll ich diesem Volk antworten?
Then they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them and grant them their petition, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”
Sie sagten zu ihm: Wenn du dich heute zum Diener dieses Volkes machst, ihnen zu Willen bist, auf sie hörst und freundlich mit ihnen redest, dann werden sie immer deine Diener sein.
But he forsook the counsel of the elders which they had given him, and consulted with the young men who grew up with him and served him.
Doch er verwarf den Rat, den die Älteren ihm gegeben hatten, und beriet sich mit den jungen Leuten, die mit ihm groß geworden waren und jetzt in seinem Dienst standen.
So he said to them, “What counsel do you give that we may answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke which your father put on us’?”
Er fragte sie: Welchen Rat gebt ihr mir? Was sollen wir diesem Volk antworten, das zu mir sagt: Erleichtere das Joch, das dein Vater uns auferlegt hat?
The young men who grew up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall say to this people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, now you make it lighter for us!’ But you shall speak to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins!
Die jungen Leute, die mit ihm groß geworden waren, sagten zu ihm: So sollst du diesem Volk antworten, das zu dir sagt: Dein Vater hat uns ein schweres Joch auferlegt; erleichtere es uns! So sollst du zu ihnen sagen: Mein kleiner Finger ist stärker als die Lenden meines Vaters.
‘Whereas my father loaded you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.’”
Hat mein Vater euch ein schweres Joch aufgebürdet, so werde ich es noch schwerer machen. Mein Vater hat euch mit Peitschen gezüchtigt, ich werde euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen.
Then Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day as the king had directed, saying, “Return to me on the third day.”
Am dritten Tag kamen Jerobeam und das ganze Volk zu Rehabeam; denn der König hatte ihnen gesagt: Kommt am dritten Tag wieder zu mir!
The king answered the people harshly, for he forsook the advice of the elders which they had given him,
Der König gab nun dem Volk eine harte Antwort. Er verwarf den Rat, den die Älteren ihm erteilt hatten,
and he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.”
und antwortete ihnen nach dem Rat der jungen Leute: Mein Vater hat euer Joch schwer gemacht. Ich werde es noch schwerer machen. Mein Vater hat euch mit Peitschen gezüchtigt, ich werde euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen.
So the king did not listen to the people; for it was a turn of events from the LORD, that He might establish His word, which the LORD spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
Der König hörte also nicht auf das Volk; denn der HERR hatte es so bestimmt, um das Wort wahr zu machen, das er durch Ahija von Schilo zu Jerobeam, dem Sohn Nebats, gesprochen hatte.
The Kingdom Divided; Jeroboam Rules Israel
When all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying,
“What portion do we have in David?
We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse;
To your tents, O Israel!
Now look after your own house, David!”
So Israel departed to their tents.
Als die Israeliten sahen, dass der König nicht auf sie hörte, gaben sie ihm zur Antwort: Welchen Anteil haben wir an David? Wir haben keinen Erbbesitz beim Sohn Isais. In deine Zelte, Israel! Nun kümmere dich um dein Haus, David! So begab sich Israel zu seinen Zelten.
But as for the sons of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
Nur über die Israeliten, die in den Städten Judas wohnten, blieb Rehabeam König.
Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the forced labor, and all Israel stoned him to death. And King Rehoboam made haste to mount his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.
Und als er den Fronaufseher Adoniram hinschickte, steinigte ihn ganz Israel zu Tode. Dem König Rehabeam gelang es, den Wagen zu besteigen und nach Jerusalem zu entkommen.
So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.

It came about when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. None but the tribe of Judah followed the house of David.
Als die Israeliten erfuhren, dass Jerobeam zurückgekehrt war, ließen sie ihn zur Versammlung rufen und machten ihn zum König über ganz Israel. Der Stamm Juda allein hielt noch zum Haus David.
Now when Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, 180,000 chosen men who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
Rehabeam kam nach Jerusalem und versammelte das ganze Haus Juda und den Stamm Benjamin, hundertachtzigtausend auserlesene Krieger, um gegen das Haus Israel zu kämpfen und das Königtum für Rehabeam, den Sohn Salomos, zurückzugewinnen.
But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin and to the rest of the people, saying,
Sag zu Rehabeam, dem Sohn Salomos, dem König von Juda, und zum ganzen Haus Juda und Benjamin und zum übrigen Volk:
‘Thus says the LORD, “You must not go up and fight against your relatives the sons of Israel; return every man to his house, for this thing has come from Me.”’” So they listened to the word of the LORD, and returned and went their way according to the word of the LORD.
So spricht der HERR: Zieht nicht in den Krieg gegen eure Brüder, die Israeliten! Jeder kehre in sein Haus zurück; denn ich habe es so verfügt. Sie hörten auf das Wort des HERRN und kehrten heim, wie der HERR es befohlen hatte.
Jeroboam’s Idolatry
Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived there. And he went out from there and built Penuel.
Jerobeam baute Sichem im Gebirge Efraim aus und ließ sich dort nieder. Von Sichem zog er nach Penuël und baute auch diese Stadt aus.
Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.
Jerobeam dachte in seinem Herzen: Das Königtum könnte wieder an das Haus David fallen.
“If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will return to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”
Wenn dieses Volk hinaufgeht, um im Haus des HERRN in Jerusalem Opfer darzubringen, wird sich sein Herz wieder seinem Herrn, dem König Rehabeam von Juda, zuwenden. Mich werden sie töten und zu Rehabeam, dem König von Juda, zurückkehren.
So the king consulted, and made two golden calves, and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold your gods, O Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”
So ging er mit sich zu Rate, ließ zwei goldene Kälber anfertigen und sagte: Ihr seid schon zu viel nach Jerusalem hinaufgezogen. Hier sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus Ägypten heraufgeführt haben.
He set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.
Er stellte das eine Kalb in Bet-El auf, das andere brachte er nach Dan.
Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan.
Dies wurde Anlass zur Sünde. Das Volk zog vor dem einen Kalb her bis nach Dan.
And he made houses on high places, and made priests from among all the people who were not of the sons of Levi.
Auch machte er das Haus der Kulthöhen und Priester, die aus allen Teilen des Volkes stammten und nicht zu den Söhnen Levis gehörten.
Jeroboam instituted a feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast which is in Judah, and he went up to the altar; thus he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves which he had made. And he stationed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.
Für den fünfzehnten Tag des achten Monats machte Jerobeam ein Fest, das dem Fest in Juda entsprach. Er stieg zum Altar hinauf. Das tat er in Bet-El, um den Kälbern zu opfern, die er hatte machen lassen. In Bet-El ließ er auch die Priester auftreten, die er für die Kulthöhen gemacht hatte.
Then he went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised in his own heart; and he instituted a feast for the sons of Israel and went up to the altar to burn incense.
Am fünfzehnten Tag des achten Monats stieg er zum Altar hinauf, den er in Bet-El gemacht hatte. Er hatte sich diesen Monat eigens ausgedacht und diesen Tag zu einem Fest für die Israeliten gemacht. An ihm stieg er zum Altar hinauf, um zu opfern.
