Jeroboam Warned, Stricken
Now behold, there came a man of God from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, while Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

Während Jerobeam am Altar stand, um zu opfern, kam ein Gottesmann aus Juda im Auftrag des HERRN nach Bet-El.
He cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, “O altar, altar, thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and human bones shall be burned on you.’”
Er rief im Auftrag des HERRN gegen den Altar: Altar, Altar! So spricht der HERR: Dem Haus David wird ein Sohn geboren mit Namen Joschija. Dieser wird auf dir die Höhenpriester hinschlachten, die auf dir opfern, und die Gebeine von Menschen wird man auf dir verbrennen.
Then he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which the LORD has spoken, ‘Behold, the altar shall be split apart and the ashes which are on it shall be poured out.’”
Er gab an jenem Tag auch ein Zeichen und sprach: Das ist das Zeichen dafür, dass der HERR gesprochen hat: Der Altar wird zerbersten und die Asche auf ihm wird zerstreut werden.
Now when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him.” But his hand which he stretched out against him dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself.
Als der König die Worte hörte, die der Gottesmann gegen den Altar in Bet-El ausrief, streckte er am Altar seine Hand aus und befahl: Nehmt ihn fest! Doch die Hand, die er gegen ihn ausgestreckt hatte, erstarrte; er konnte sie nicht mehr zurückziehen.
The altar also was split apart and the ashes were poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
Der Altar aber zerbarst und die Asche auf ihm wurde zerstreut, wie es der Gottesmann im Auftrag des HERRN als Zeichen verkündet hatte.
The king said to the man of God, “Please entreat the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.” So the man of God entreated the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored to him, and it became as it was before.
Nun ergriff der König das Wort und sagte zu dem Gottesmann: Besänftige doch den HERRN, deinen Gott, und bete für mich, dass ich meine Hand wieder an mich ziehen kann. Da besänftigte der Gottesmann den HERRN und der König konnte seine Hand wieder an sich ziehen; sie war wie zuvor.
Then the king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”
Darauf sagte der König zum Gottesmann: Komm in mein Haus und stärke dich! Auch möchte ich dir ein Geschenk geben.
But the man of God said to the king, “If you were to give me half your house I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place.
Der Gottesmann aber erwiderte dem König: Ich werde nicht mit dir gehen, auch wenn du mir die Hälfte deines Hauses gibst. Ich werde an diesem Ort weder essen noch trinken.
“For so it was commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way which you came.’”
Denn so wurde mir durch das Wort des HERRN befohlen: Du darfst dort weder essen noch trinken; und auf dem Weg, den du gekommen bist, darfst du nicht zurückkehren.
So he went another way and did not return by the way which he came to Bethel.
Daher schlug er einen anderen Weg ein und kehrte nicht auf dem Weg zurück, auf dem er nach Bet-El gekommen war.
The Disobedient Prophet
Now an old prophet was living in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the deeds which the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words which he had spoken to the king, these also they related to their father.
In Bet-El aber wohnte ein alter Prophet. Als dessen Söhne heimkamen, erzählten sie ihm alles, was der Gottesmann an diesem Tag in Bet-El getan und was er zum König gesagt hatte.
Their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” Now his sons had seen the way which the man of God who came from Judah had gone.
Darauf fragte sie der Vater: Auf welchem Weg ist er fortgezogen? Die Söhne hatten gesehen, welchen Weg der Gottesmann, der aus Juda gekommen war, eingeschlagen hatte.
Then he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him and he rode away on it.
Da befahl er ihnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Sie taten es und er stieg auf,
So he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak; and he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he said, “I am.”
ritt dem Gottesmann nach und traf ihn unter einer Eiche sitzend an. Er fragte ihn: Bist du der Gottesmann, der aus Juda gekommen ist? Jener antwortete: Ich bin es.
Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”
Da bat er ihn: Komm in mein Haus und iss Brot mit mir!
He said, “I cannot return with you, nor go with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place.
Doch jener entgegnete: Ich kann nicht mit dir zurückkehren und werde an diesem Ort mit dir weder essen noch trinken.
“For a command came to me by the word of the LORD, ‘You shall eat no bread, nor drink water there; do not return by going the way which you came.’”
Denn im Auftrag des HERRN ist das Wort an mich ergangen: Du darfst dort weder essen noch trinken und auf dem Weg, den du gekommen bist, darfst du nicht zurückkehren.
He said to him, “I also am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him.
Der andere aber sagte: Auch ich bin ein Prophet wie du und ein Engel hat mir im Auftrag des HERRN befohlen: Hol ihn zurück! Er soll in dein Haus kommen, um zu essen und zu trinken. So belog er ihn.
So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house and drank water.
Nun kehrte er mit ihm um und aß und trank im Haus des Propheten.
Now it came about, as they were sitting down at the table, that the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back;
Während sie bei Tisch saßen, erging das Wort des HERRN an den Propheten, der ihn zurückgeholt hatte,
and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because you have disobeyed the command of the LORD, and have not observed the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you,
und er rief es dem Gottesmann aus Juda zu: So spricht der HERR: Weil du gegen den Befehl des HERRN gehandelt und das Gebot nicht gehalten hast, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, auferlegt hat,
but have returned and eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which He said to you, “Eat no bread and drink no water”; your body shall not come to the grave of your fathers.’”
weil du zurückgekehrt bist und an dem Ort gegessen und getrunken hast, an dem zu essen und zu trinken er dir verboten hatte, darum soll deine Leiche nicht in das Grab deiner Väter kommen.
It came about after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
Nachdem der Gottesmann gegessen und getrunken hatte, sattelte man für ihn den Esel, der dem Propheten gehörte, der ihn zurückgeholt hatte.
Now when he had gone, a lion met him on the way and killed him, and his body was thrown on the road, with the donkey standing beside it; the lion also was standing beside the body.
Er zog fort; doch unterwegs fiel ihn ein Löwe an und tötete ihn. Seine Leiche lag hingestreckt am Weg und der Esel stand neben ihr. Auch der Löwe blieb neben der Leiche stehen.
And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the road, and the lion standing beside the body; so they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.
Die Leute, die vorübergingen, sahen die Leiche am Weg liegen und den Löwen neben ihr stehen. Sie kamen und erzählten es in der Stadt, in der der alte Prophet wohnte.
Now when the prophet who brought him back from the way heard it, he said, “It is the man of God, who disobeyed the command of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke to him.”
Als der Prophet, der ihn vom Weg zurückgeholt hatte, davon hörte, sagte er: Das ist der Gottesmann, der gegen den Befehl des HERRN gehandelt hat. Darum hat ihn der HERR dem Löwen preisgegeben und dieser hat ihn zerrissen und getötet, wie es der HERR ihm angekündigt hatte.
Then he spoke to his sons, saying, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And they saddled it.
Dann befahl er seinen Söhnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Sie taten es
He went and found his body thrown on the road with the donkey and the lion standing beside the body; the lion had not eaten the body nor torn the donkey.
und er machte sich auf und fand die Leiche am Weg hingestreckt; der Esel und der Löwe standen neben ihr. Der Löwe hatte die Leiche nicht gefressen und den Esel nicht zerrissen.
So the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it on the donkey and brought it back, and he came to the city of the old prophet to mourn and to bury him.
Der Prophet hob nun die Leiche auf, legte sie auf den Esel und brachte sie in die Stadt zurück. Er kam in die Stadt des alten Propheten, um die Totenklage zu halten und ihn zu begraben.
He laid his body in his own grave, and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”
Er bestattete ihn in seinem eigenen Grab und man klagte um ihn: Ach, mein Bruder!
After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.
Nachdem er ihn begraben hatte, sagte er zu seinen Söhnen: Wenn ich gestorben bin, bringt mich in das Grab, in dem der Gottesmann beigesetzt ist, und legt meine Gebeine neben die seinen!
“For the thing shall surely come to pass which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria.”
Denn das Wort, das er im Auftrag des HERRN gegen den Altar in Bet-El und gegen alle Häuser der Kulthöhen in den Städten Samariens gesprochen hat, wird in Erfüllung gehen.
After this event Jeroboam did not return from his evil way, but again he made priests of the high places from among all the people; any who would, he ordained, to be priests of the high places.
Jerobeam kehrte auch nach diesem Ereignis von seinem bösen Weg nicht um. Er machte weiterhin aus allen Teilen des Volkes Priester für die Kulthöhen; jedem, der es wünschte, füllte er die Hand und er wurde ein Höhenpriester.
