Jeroboam Warned, Stricken
Now behold, there came a man of God from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, while Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

Als er gerade oben am Altar stand und opfern wollte, erschien plötzlich ein Prophet aus Juda. Der HERR hatte ihn nach Bethel gesandt.
He cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, “O altar, altar, thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and human bones shall be burned on you.’”
Mit lauter Stimme rief er zum Altar hin, was der HERR ihm aufgetragen hatte: »Altar! Altar! So spricht der HERR: Der Königsfamilie von David wird ein Sohn geboren werden mit Namen Josia. Er wird auf dir die Priester schlachten, die an den Opferstätten dienen und nun hier ihre Opfer darbringen. Ja, Menschenknochen wird man auf dir verbrennen.«
Then he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which the LORD has spoken, ‘Behold, the altar shall be split apart and the ashes which are on it shall be poured out.’”
Dann wandte der Prophet sich an das Volk und sagte: »Ein Zeichen soll euch beweisen, dass der HERR durch mich geredet hat: Dieser Altar hier wird zerbersten, und seine Asche, die mit dem Fett der Opfertiere getränkt ist, wird auf dem Boden verstreut werden.«
Now when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him.” But his hand which he stretched out against him dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself.
König Jerobeam stand immer noch oben am Altar. Als er hörte, was der Prophet gegen den Altar von Bethel sagte, streckte er zornig seine Hand gegen den Boten Gottes aus und befahl seinen Männern: »Packt diesen Kerl!« Da wurde sein Arm steif, so dass er ihn nicht mehr zurückziehen konnte.
The altar also was split apart and the ashes were poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
Im selben Augenblick brach der Altar auseinander, und die Opferasche wurde auf dem Boden verstreut. Alles traf so ein, wie der Prophet es im Auftrag des HERRN angekündigt hatte.
The king said to the man of God, “Please entreat the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.” So the man of God entreated the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored to him, and it became as it was before.
Da flehte der König: »Bitte, bete für mich zum HERRN, deinem Gott! Versuch ihn zu besänftigen und bitte darum, dass ich meinen Arm wieder bewegen kann!« Der Prophet betete für den König, und sofort war sein Arm wieder gesund.
Then the king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”
Da lud König Jerobeam den Boten Gottes ein: »Komm mit mir in mein Haus und iss etwas! Ich möchte dir ein Geschenk geben.«
But the man of God said to the king, “If you were to give me half your house I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place.
Doch der Prophet wehrte ab: »Selbst wenn du mir dein halbes Haus schenken würdest, käme ich nicht mit! Ich werde hier weder essen noch trinken,
“For so it was commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way which you came.’”
denn der HERR hat mir befohlen: ›Du sollst dort nichts essen und nichts trinken! Kehre auch nicht auf demselben Weg zurück, auf dem du nach Bethel gehst!‹«
So he went another way and did not return by the way which he came to Bethel.
So ging er auf einem anderen Weg nach Hause.
The Disobedient Prophet
Now an old prophet was living in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the deeds which the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words which he had spoken to the king, these also they related to their father.
In der Stadt Bethel lebte ein alter Prophet. Als seine Söhne von dem Fest bei dem Altar zurückkamen, erzählten sie ihm, was der Bote Gottes getan und zu König Jerobeam gesagt hatte.
Their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” Now his sons had seen the way which the man of God who came from Judah had gone.
»Und wohin ist er dann gegangen?«, wollte der Vater wissen. Die Söhne beschrieben ihm, welchen Weg der Prophet aus Juda eingeschlagen hatte.
Then he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him and he rode away on it.
»Sattelt mir schnell den Esel!«, befahl der alte Prophet. Als das Tier gesattelt war, stieg er auf
So he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak; and he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he said, “I am.”
und ritt dem Boten Gottes nach. Er holte ihn ein, als er unter einem Baum Rast machte, und fragte ihn: »Bist du der Prophet, der aus Juda hierhergekommen ist?« »Ja, der bin ich«, gab der Angeredete zur Antwort.
Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”
Da lud der alte Mann ihn ein: »Komm doch zu mir nach Hause und iss etwas!«
He said, “I cannot return with you, nor go with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place.
Aber der Bote Gottes lehnte ab: »Ich kann nicht umkehren und zu dir nach Hause kommen. Ich darf hier nichts essen und nichts trinken, auch nicht bei dir.
“For a command came to me by the word of the LORD, ‘You shall eat no bread, nor drink water there; do not return by going the way which you came.’”
Denn der HERR hat mir befohlen: ›Du sollst dort nichts essen und nichts trinken! Kehre auch nicht auf demselben Weg zurück, auf dem du nach Bethel gehst!‹«
He said to him, “I also am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him.
Da entgegnete der alte Mann: »Ich bin auch ein Prophet wie du! Ein Engel hat mir eine Botschaft des HERRN ausgerichtet. Er sagte zu mir: ›Nimm ihn mit nach Hause, damit er bei dir essen und trinken kann!‹« Dies war eine Lüge.
So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house and drank water.
Aber der Bote Gottes nahm daraufhin die Einladung des alten Propheten an und aß und trank bei ihm zu Hause.
Now it came about, as they were sitting down at the table, that the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back;
Noch während des Essens gab der HERR dem alten Propheten eine Botschaft für den Gast, den er in sein Haus geholt hatte.
and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because you have disobeyed the command of the LORD, and have not observed the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you,
Der Prophet sagte zu dem Boten Gottes aus Juda: »So spricht der HERR: Du hast dich meinem Befehl widersetzt und hast das Verbot missachtet, das ich, der HERR, dein Gott, dir gegeben habe.
but have returned and eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which He said to you, “Eat no bread and drink no water”; your body shall not come to the grave of your fathers.’”
Du bist umgekehrt und hast hier am Ort gegessen und getrunken, obwohl ich es dir ausdrücklich verboten hatte. Darum wirst du nie im Grab deiner Vorfahren beerdigt werden!«
It came about after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
Nach dem Essen ließ der alte Prophet einen seiner Esel satteln und gab ihn seinem Gast.
Now when he had gone, a lion met him on the way and killed him, and his body was thrown on the road, with the donkey standing beside it; the lion also was standing beside the body.
Der verabschiedete sich und ritt davon. Unterwegs fiel ein Löwe über ihn her und tötete ihn. Der Löwe und der Esel blieben neben dem Toten stehen.
And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the road, and the lion standing beside the body; so they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.
Die Leute, die vorbeikamen, sahen die Leiche am Boden liegen und den Löwen neben ihr stehen. Schnell gingen sie weiter und erzählten es in Bethel, wo auch der alte Prophet wohnte.
Now when the prophet who brought him back from the way heard it, he said, “It is the man of God, who disobeyed the command of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke to him.”
Als er davon hörte, sagte er: »Das ist der Bote Gottes, der sich dem Befehl Gottes widersetzt hat. Darum ließ der HERR ihn in die Klauen des Löwen geraten, und der hat ihn getötet. Es ist alles so eingetroffen, wie der HERR es ihm angekündigt hat.«
Then he spoke to his sons, saying, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And they saddled it.
Dann befahl er seinen Söhnen, ihm seinen Esel zu satteln,
He went and found his body thrown on the road with the donkey and the lion standing beside the body; the lion had not eaten the body nor torn the donkey.
und ritt los. Er fand alles so vor, wie man es ihm beschrieben hatte: Der Esel und der Löwe standen immer noch bei der Leiche. Der Löwe hatte sie nicht gefressen und auch den Esel nicht zerrissen.
So the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it on the donkey and brought it back, and he came to the city of the old prophet to mourn and to bury him.
Der Prophet hob den Toten auf seinen Esel und brachte ihn nach Bethel. Dort wollte er die Totenklage um ihn halten und ihn dann begraben.
He laid his body in his own grave, and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”
Er bestattete die Leiche in seinem eigenen Familiengrab. Dabei wurde die Klage »Ach, mein Bruder« angestimmt.
After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.
Nach der Beisetzung sagte der alte Prophet zu seinen Söhnen: »Wenn ich einmal sterbe, sollt ihr mich im selben Grab bestatten, in dem nun der Bote Gottes liegt. An seiner Seite möchte ich begraben sein.
“For the thing shall surely come to pass which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria.”
Denn ich weiß, dass er ein echter Prophet war. Was er im Auftrag des HERRN gegen den Altar von Bethel und gegen die Götzenopferstätten und Heiligtümer in Samaria vorausgesagt hat, wird alles eintreffen.«
After this event Jeroboam did not return from his evil way, but again he made priests of the high places from among all the people; any who would, he ordained, to be priests of the high places.
Trotz allem, was geschehen war, ließ Jerobeam sich nicht von seinen falschen Wegen abbringen. Er setzte weiterhin Priester aus dem ganzen Volk zum Dienst bei den Opferstätten ein. Wer immer sich darum bewarb, den weihte er selbst zum Priester.
