Jehu Reigns over Israel
Now Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead.

Der Prophet Elischa rief einen von den Prophetenjüngern und trug ihm auf: Gürte dich, nimm diesen Ölkrug und geh nach Ramot-Gilead!
“When you arrive there, search out Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in and bid him arise from among his brothers, and bring him to an inner room.
Wenn du dorthin kommst, such Jehu, den Sohn Joschafats, des Sohnes Nimschis! Geh zu ihm, ruf ihn aus dem Kreis seiner Brüder und begib dich mit ihm in das innerste Gemach!
“Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the LORD, “I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee and do not wait.”
Dann nimm den Ölkrug, gieß ihn über seinem Haupt aus und sag: So spricht der HERR: Ich salbe dich zum König über Israel. Dann öffne die Tür und eile unverzüglich fort!
So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead.
Der junge Mann — der junge Mann war Prophet — ging nach Ramot-Gilead.
When he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting, and he said, “I have a word for you, O captain.” And Jehu said, “For which one of us?” And he said, “For you, O captain.”
Als er hinkam, saßen die Obersten des Heeres gerade beisammen. Er sagte: Ich habe einen Auftrag an dich, Oberst. Jehu fragte: An wen von uns? Der junge Mann antwortete: An dich, Oberst.
He arose and went into the house, and he poured the oil on his head and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.
Da stand Jehu auf und ging in das Haus. Der Prophetenjünger goss ihm das Öl über das Haupt mit den Worten: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Ich salbe dich zum König über das Volk des HERRN, über Israel.
‘You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
Du wirst dem Haus Ahabs, deines Herrn, schwere Schläge versetzen und ich werde Rache nehmen für das Blut meiner Knechte, der Propheten, und für das Blut aller Diener des HERRN, das Isebel vergossen hat.
‘For the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male person both bond and free in Israel.
Das ganze Haus Ahab wird zugrunde gehen. Ich werde vom Haus Ahab alles, was männlich ist, bis zum letzten Mann in Israel ausrotten
‘I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.
und es dem Haus Ahab ergehen lassen wie dem Haus Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, und dem Haus Baschas, des Sohnes Ahijas.
‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel, and none shall bury her.’” Then he opened the door and fled.
Isebel werden auf der Flur von Jesreel die Hunde fressen und niemand wird sie begraben. Dann öffnete er die Tür und eilte davon.
Now Jehu came out to the servants of his master, and one said to him, “Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?” And he said to them, “You know very well the man and his talk.”
Als Jehu zu den Leuten seines Herrn herauskam, fragten sie ihn: Steht es gut? Warum ist denn dieser Verrückte zu dir gekommen? Er antwortete: Ihr kennt doch den Mann und sein Gerede.
They said, “It is a lie, tell us now.” And he said, “Thus and thus he said to me, ‘Thus says the LORD, “I have anointed you king over Israel.”’”
Doch sie sagten: Das sind Ausflüchte. Teil uns nur alles mit! Da gab er zu: So und so hat er zu mir gesagt: So spricht der HERR: Ich salbe dich zum König über Israel.
Then they hurried and each man took his garment and placed it under him on the bare steps, and blew the trumpet, saying, “Jehu is king!”
Sogleich nahmen alle ihre Kleider, legten sie ihm zu Füßen auf die bloßen Stufen, stießen in das Horn und riefen: Jehu ist König.
Jehoram (Joram) Is Assassinated
So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. Now Joram with all Israel was defending Ramoth-gilead against Hazael king of Aram,
So verschwor sich Jehu, der Sohn Joschafats, des Sohnes Nimschis, gegen Joram. — Joram hatte mit ganz Israel vor Ramot-Gilead im Abwehrkampf gegen Hasaël, den König von Aram, gestanden.
but King Joram had returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him when he fought with Hazael king of Aram. So Jehu said, “If this is your mind, then let no one escape or leave the city to go tell it in Jezreel.”
Er war dann heimgekehrt, um in Jesreel Heilung von den Wunden zu suchen, die ihm die Aramäer geschlagen hatten, als er gegen ihren König Hasaël kämpfte. Jehu sagte nun: Wenn ihr einverstanden seid, lassen wir keinen aus der Stadt entkommen, der nach Jesreel gehen und dort Meldung machen könnte.
Then Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram was lying there. Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.
Dann bestieg er seinen Wagen, um selbst nach Jesreel zu fahren; denn dort lag Joram danieder. Auch Ahasja, der König von Juda, war dorthin gekommen, um Joram zu besuchen.
Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, “I see a company.” And Joram said, “Take a horseman and send him to meet them and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’”
Der Wächter, der in Jesreel auf dem Turm stand, sah die Schar Jehus herankommen und meldete: Ich sehe eine Schar. Da befahl Joram: Hol einen Reiter und schick ihn der Schar entgegen! Er soll fragen, ob er in friedlicher Absicht kommt.
So a horseman went to meet him and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu said, “What have you to do with peace? Turn behind me.” And the watchman reported, “The messenger came to them, but he did not return.”
Als der Reiter sie erreichte, sagte er: Der König lässt fragen, ob ihr in friedlicher Absicht kommt. Doch Jehu antwortete: Was geht es dich an, ob wir in friedlicher Absicht kommen? Reih dich hinter mir ein! Der Wächter meldete: Der Bote hat sie erreicht, kehrt aber nicht mehr zurück.
Then he sent out a second horseman, who came to them and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu answered, “What have you to do with peace? Turn behind me.”
Nun schickte der König einen zweiten Reiter. Dieser kam zu ihnen und sagte: Der König lässt fragen, ob ihr in friedlicher Absicht kommt. Doch Jehu antwortete: Was geht es dich an, ob wir in friedlicher Absicht kommen? Reih dich hinter mir ein!
The watchman reported, “He came even to them, and he did not return; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”
Der Wächter meldete wieder: Er hat sie erreicht, kehrt aber nicht mehr zurück. Die Art, wie ihr Anführer fährt, ist die Art Jehus, des Enkels Nimschis; denn er fährt wie ein Rasender.
Then Joram said, “Get ready.” And they made his chariot ready. Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu and found him in the property of Naboth the Jezreelite.
Da ließ Joram selbst anspannen. Man machte seinen Wagen bereit und Joram, der König von Israel, und Ahasja, der König von Juda, fuhren, jeder auf seinem Wagen, Jehu entgegen. Sie trafen ihn beim Acker Nabots aus Jesreel.
When Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” And he answered, “What peace, so long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?”
Als Joram Jehu sah, fragte er: Kommst du in friedlicher Absicht, Jehu? Doch dieser erwiderte: Wie sollte ich in friedlicher Absicht kommen, solange die Unzucht deiner Mutter Isebel und ihre vielen Zaubereien andauern?
So Joram reined about and fled and said to Ahaziah, “There is treachery, O Ahaziah!”
Da lenkte Joram um und wollte fliehen, während er Ahasja zurief: Verrat, Ahasja!
And Jehu drew his bow with his full strength and shot Joram between his arms; and the arrow went through his heart and he sank in his chariot.
Doch Jehu ergriff den Bogen und traf Joram zwischen die Schultern, sodass der Pfeil sein Herz durchbohrte und er in seinem Wagen niedersank.
Then Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, “Take him up and cast him into the property of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite, for I remember when you and I were riding together after Ahab his father, that the LORD laid this oracle against him:
Dann befahl Jehu seinem Vorkämpfer Bidkar: Nimm ihn und wirf ihn auf den Acker Nabots aus Jesreel. Denk daran: Ich und du fuhren auf unseren Gespannen hinter seinem Vater Ahab her, als der HERR dieses Wort über ihn verkünden ließ:
‘Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,’ says the LORD, ‘and I will repay you in this property,’ says the LORD. Now then, take and cast him into the property, according to the word of the LORD.”
Fürwahr, ich habe gestern das Blut Nabots und seiner Söhne gesehen — Spruch des HERRN. Ich werde an dir auf diesem Acker Vergeltung üben — Spruch des HERRN. Nimm ihn also und wirf ihn auf den Acker, wie es der HERR gesagt hat!
Jehu Assassinates Ahaziah
When Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu pursued him and said, “Shoot him too, in the chariot.” So they shot him at the ascent of Gur, which is at Ibleam. But he fled to Megiddo and died there.
Als Ahasja, der König von Juda, dies sah, floh er in Richtung Bet-Gan. Doch Jehu verfolgte ihn und rief: Schlagt auch diesen nieder! Man schlug ihn beim Anstieg nach Gur, das bei Jibleam liegt, im Wagen nieder. Er kam noch bis Megiddo, wo er starb.
Then his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his grave with his fathers in the city of David.
Seine Diener brachten ihn nach Jerusalem und begruben ihn bei seinen Vätern in seinem Grab in der Davidstadt.
Now in the eleventh year of Joram, the son of Ahab, Ahaziah became king over Judah.
Im elften Jahr Jorams, des Sohnes Ahabs, war Ahasja König von Juda geworden.
When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it, and she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out the window.
Als Jehu nach Jesreel kam und Isebel dies erfuhr, legte sie Schminke auf ihre Augen, schmückte ihr Haupt und schaute durch das Fenster hinab.
As Jehu entered the gate, she said, “Is it well, Zimri, your master’s murderer?”
Während dann Jehu an das Tor trat, rief sie ihm zu: Geht es Simri, dem Mörder seines Herrn, gut?
Then he lifted up his face to the window and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” And two or three officials looked down at him.
Jehu schaute zum Fenster empor und fragte: Ist jemand da, der zu mir hält? Zwei oder drei Hofleute sahen zu ihm herab
Jezebel Is Slain
He said, “Throw her down.” So they threw her down, and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her under foot.
und er befahl ihnen: Werft sie herunter! Sie warfen sie herunter und Isebels Blut bespritzte die Wand und die Pferde, die sie zertraten.
When he came in, he ate and drank; and he said, “See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.”
Dann ging Jehu hinein, um zu essen und zu trinken. Schließlich befahl er: Seht nach dieser Verfluchten und begrabt sie; denn sie ist eine Königstochter.
They went to bury her, but they found nothing more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.
Doch als sie hinkamen, um sie zu begraben, fanden sie von ihr nur noch den Schädel, die Füße und die Hände.
Therefore they returned and told him. And he said, “This is the word of the LORD, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ‘In the property of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel;
Und sie kamen zurück, um es ihm zu melden. Er aber sagte: Das ist das Wort, das der HERR durch seinen Knecht Elija aus Tischbe verkündet hat: Auf der Flur von Jesreel werden die Hunde das Fleisch Isebels fressen.
