The Prophet Azariah Warns Asa
Now the Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded,
Now the Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded,
Über Asarja, den Sohn Odeds, kam der Geist Gottes.
and he went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: the LORD is with you when you are with Him. And if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.
Er ging zu Asa hinaus und sagte zu ihm: Hört mich an, Asa und ihr alle von Juda und Benjamin! Der HERR ist mit euch, wenn ihr zu ihm haltet. Wenn ihr ihn sucht, lässt er sich von euch finden; wenn ihr ihn aber verlasst, verlässt er euch.
“For many days Israel was without the true God and without a teaching priest and without law.
Lange Zeit lebte Israel ohne den wahren Gott, ohne einen belehrenden Priester, ohne Weisung.
“But in their distress they turned to the LORD God of Israel, and they sought Him, and He let them find Him.
In ihrer Not bekehrten sie sich zum HERRN, dem Gott Israels, und da sie ihn suchten, ließ er sich von ihnen finden.
“In those times there was no peace to him who went out or to him who came in, for many disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands.
In jenen Zeiten konnte niemand sicher aus- und eingehen; denn große Unruhe lag über allen Bewohnern der Länder.
“Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every kind of distress.
Ein Volk wurde vom andern bedrängt, eine Stadt von der andern; denn Gott beunruhigte sie durch allerlei Not.
“But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work.”
Ihr aber, seid stark! Eure Hände sollen nicht erschlaffen; denn euer Tun wird seinen Lohn finden.
Asa’s Reforms
Now when Asa heard these words and the prophecy which Azariah the son of Oded the prophet spoke, he took courage and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD which was in front of the porch of the LORD.
Als Asa diese Worte und die Weissagung des Propheten Oded hörte, entfernte er mutig die Götzenbilder aus dem ganzen Gebiet von Juda und Benjamin sowie aus den Städten, die er im Gebirge Efraim erobert hatte. Auch erneuerte er den Altar des HERRN, der vor dem Tempel des HERRN stand.
He gathered all Judah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who resided with them, for many defected to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
Dann versammelte er ganz Juda und Benjamin sowie die Leute von Efraim, Manasse und Simeon, die sich bei ihnen aufhielten. Sehr viele waren nämlich aus Israel zu ihm übergegangen, als sie sahen, dass der HERR, sein Gott, mit ihm war.
So they assembled at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.
Im dritten Monat des fünfzehnten Jahres der Regierung Asas kamen sie in Jerusalem zusammen
They sacrificed to the LORD that day 700 oxen and 7,000 sheep from the spoil they had brought.
und opferten an jenem Tag dem HERRN siebenhundert Rinder und siebentausend Schafe von der Beute, die sie gemacht hatten.
They entered into the covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and soul;
Sie gingen die Verpflichtung ein, mit ganzem Herzen und ganzer Seele den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, zu suchen.
and whoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.
Wer aber nicht den HERRN, den Gott Israels, suchen würde, sollte getötet werden, sei er klein oder groß, Mann oder Frau.
Moreover, they made an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets and with horns.
Das schworen sie dem HERRN mit lauter Stimme, unter Jubelschall, beim Schall der Trompeten und Hörner.
All Judah rejoiced concerning the oath, for they had sworn with their whole heart and had sought Him earnestly, and He let them find Him. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
Ganz Juda freute sich über den Schwur; denn sie hatten ihn mit ganzem Herzen geleistet. Und da sie mit bestem Willen den HERRN suchten, ließ er sich von ihnen finden und verschaffte ihnen ringsum Ruhe.
He also removed Maacah, the mother of King Asa, from the position of queen mother, because she had made a horrid image as an Asherah, and Asa cut down her horrid image, crushed it and burned it at the brook Kidron.
König Asa enthob auch seine Mutter Maacha ihrer Stellung als Herrin, weil sie der Aschera ein Schandbild errichtet hatte. Er ließ das Schandbild umhauen, es zertrümmern und im Kidrontal verbrennen.
But the high places were not removed from Israel; nevertheless Asa’s heart was blameless all his days.
Nur die Kulthöhen verschwanden nicht aus Israel. Doch das Herz Asas war ungeteilt, solange er lebte.
He brought into the house of God the dedicated things of his father and his own dedicated things: silver and gold and utensils.
Er brachte auch die Weihegaben seines Vaters und seine eigenen Weihegaben in das Haus Gottes: Silber, Gold und allerlei Geräte.
