Asa Wars against Baasha
In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah and fortified Ramah in order to prevent anyone from going out or coming in to Asa king of Judah.

Im sechsunddreißigsten Regierungsjahr Asas zog Bascha, der König von Israel, gegen Juda und baute Rama aus, damit niemand im Dienste Asas, des Königs von Juda, hinüber- oder herüberziehen konnte.
Then Asa brought out silver and gold from the treasuries of the house of the LORD and the king’s house, and sent them to Ben-hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus, saying,
Da nahm Asa Silber und Gold aus den Schatzkammern des Tempels und des königlichen Palastes und sandte es an Ben-Hadad, den König von Aram, der in Damaskus seinen Sitz hatte. Dabei ließ er ihm sagen:
“Let there be a treaty between you and me, as between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold; go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so that he will withdraw from me.”
Zwischen mir und dir, zwischen meinem Vater und deinem Vater soll ein Bündnis sein. Ich schicke dir Silber und Gold. Löse also dein Bündnis mit Bascha, dem König von Israel, damit er von mir abzieht!
So Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and they conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim and all the store cities of Naphtali.
Ben-Hadad hörte auf König Asa. Er sandte seine Heerführer gegen die Städte Israels und diese verwüsteten Ijon, Dan und Abel-Majim sowie alle Vorratshäuser in den Städten Naftalis.
When Baasha heard of it, he ceased fortifying Ramah and stopped his work.
Als Bascha das erfuhr, hörte er auf, Rama auszubauen, und stellte die Arbeit ein.
Then King Asa brought all Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber with which Baasha had been building, and with them he fortified Geba and Mizpah.
König Asa aber holte ganz Juda herbei und ließ die Steine und Balken wegnehmen, mit denen Bascha Rama ausgebaut hatte. Mit ihnen baute er Geba und Mizpa aus.
Asa Imprisons the Prophet
At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Aram and have not relied on the LORD your God, therefore the army of the king of Aram has escaped out of your hand.
Damals kam der Seher Hanani zu Asa, dem König von Juda, und hielt ihm vor: Weil du dich auf den König von Aram gestützt hast und nicht auf den HERRN, deinen Gott, darum ist das Heer des Königs von Aram deiner Hand entkommen.
“Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim an immense army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the LORD, He delivered them into your hand.
Hatten nicht auch die Kuschiter und Libyer ein gewaltiges Heer mit sehr vielen Wagen und Wagenkämpfern? Weil du dich aber auf den HERRN stütztest, gab er es in deine Hand.
“For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars.”
Denn die Augen des HERRN schweifen über die ganze Erde, um denen ein starker Helfer zu sein, die mit ungeteiltem Herzen zu ihm halten. Hierin hast du töricht gehandelt; denn von nun an wirst du Krieg haben.
Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in prison, for he was enraged at him for this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.
Asa aber wurde zornig über den Seher. Er ließ ihn im Gefängnis in den Block legen; denn er war über ihn sehr aufgebracht. Auch einige aus dem Volk ließ Asa damals misshandeln.
Now, the acts of Asa from first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
Die frühere und die spätere Geschichte Asas ist aufgezeichnet im Buch der Könige von Juda und Israel.
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians.
Im neununddreißigsten Jahr seiner Regierung erkrankte Asa an den Füßen. Die Krankheit war sehr heftig. Aber auch in der Krankheit suchte er nicht den HERRN, sondern die Ärzte.
So Asa slept with his fathers, having died in the forty-first year of his reign.
Asa entschlief zu seinen Vätern; er starb im einundvierzigsten Jahr seiner Regierung.
They buried him in his own tomb which he had cut out for himself in the city of David, and they laid him in the resting place which he had filled with spices of various kinds blended by the perfumers’ art; and they made a very great fire for him.
Man setzte ihn bei in seiner Grabstätte, die er sich in der Davidstadt angelegt hatte. Man legte ihn auf ein Lager, das mit Balsam und allerlei kunstvoll zubereiteten Salben ausgestattet war, und zündete zu seiner Ehre ein gewaltiges Feuer an.
