Aufstehen will ich, die Stadt durchstreifen, die Gassen und Plätze, ihn suchen, den meine Seele liebt. Ich suchte ihn und fand ihn nicht.
“The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me,
And I said, ‘Have you seen him whom my soul loves?’
And I said, ‘Have you seen him whom my soul loves?’
Mich fanden die Wächter bei ihrer Runde durch die Stadt. Habt ihr ihn gesehen, den meine Seele liebt?

Kaum war ich an ihnen vorüber, fand ich ihn, den meine Seele liebt. Ich packte ihn, ließ ihn nicht mehr los, bis ich ihn ins Haus meiner Mutter brachte, in die Kammer derer, die mich geboren hat.

Bei den Gazellen und Hinden der Flur beschwöre ich euch, Jerusalems Töchter: Stört die Liebe nicht auf, weckt sie nicht, bis es ihr selbst gefällt!
Solomon’s Wedding Day
“What is this coming up from the wilderness
Like columns of smoke,
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
With all scented powders of the merchant?
Wer ist sie, die heraufsteigt aus der Wüste in Säulen von Rauch, umwölkt von Myrrhe und Weihrauch, von allen Wohlgerüchen des Händlers?
“Behold, it is the traveling couch of Solomon;
Sixty mighty men around it,
Of the mighty men of Israel.

Sieh da, Salomos Sänfte! Sechzig Helden geleiten sie von Israels Helden,
“All of them are wielders of the sword,
Expert in war;
Each man has his sword at his side,
Guarding against the terrors of the night.

alle vertraut mit dem Schwert, geschult für den Kampf. Jeder trägt sein Schwert an der Hüfte gegen die Schrecken der Nacht.
“King Solomon has made for himself a sedan chair
From the timber of Lebanon.

Einen Tragsessel ließ sich König Salomo zimmern aus Holz vom Libanon.
“He made its posts of silver,
Its back of gold
And its seat of purple fabric,
With its interior lovingly fitted out
By the daughters of Jerusalem.

Seine Pfosten hat er aus Silber gemacht, seine Lehne aus Gold, seinen Sitz aus Purpur, sein Inneres ausgekleidet mit Liebe von den Töchtern Jerusalems.
“Go forth, O daughters of Zion,
And gaze on King Solomon with the crown
With which his mother has crowned him
On the day of his wedding,
And on the day of his gladness of heart.”

Kommt heraus und schaut, ihr Töchter Zions, König Salomo mit der Krone! Damit hat ihn seine Mutter gekrönt am Tag seiner Hochzeit, am Tag seiner Herzensfreude.
