Destruction of Jerusalem Impending
“Flee for safety, O sons of Benjamin,
From the midst of Jerusalem!
Now blow a trumpet in Tekoa
And raise a signal over Beth-haccerem;
For evil looks down from the north,
And a great destruction.

Fliehet, ihr Kinder Benjamin, aus Jerusalem und blaset die Drommete auf der Warte Thekoa und werft auf ein Panier über der Warte Beth–Cherem! denn es geht daher ein Unglück von Mitternacht und ein großer Jammer.
“The comely and dainty one, the daughter of Zion, I will cut off.
Die Tochter Zion ist wie eine schöne und lustige Aue.
“Shepherds and their flocks will come to her,
They will pitch their tents around her,
They will pasture each in his place.

Aber es werden Hirten über sie kommen mit ihren Herden, die werden Gezelte rings um sie her aufschlagen und weiden ein jeglicher an seinem Ort (und sprechen):
“Prepare war against her;
Arise, and let us attack at noon.
Woe to us, for the day declines,
For the shadows of the evening lengthen!

Rüstet euch zum Krieg wider sie! Wohlauf, laßt uns hinaufziehen, weil es noch hoch Tag ist! Ei, es will Abend werden, und die Schatten werden groß!
“Arise, and let us attack by night
And destroy her palaces!”

Wohlan, so laßt uns auf sein, und sollten wir bei Nacht hinaufziehen und ihre Paläste verderben!
For thus says the LORD of hosts,
“Cut down her trees
And cast up a siege against Jerusalem.
This is the city to be punished,
In whose midst there is only oppression.

Denn also spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Fället die Bäume und werfet einen Wall auf wider Jerusalem; denn sie ist eine Stadt, die heimgesucht werden soll. Ist doch eitel Unrecht darin.
“As a well keeps its waters fresh,
So she keeps fresh her wickedness.
Violence and destruction are heard in her;
Sickness and wounds are ever before Me.

Denn gleichwie ein Born sein Wasser quillt, also quillt auch ihre Bosheit. Ihr Frevel und Gewalt schreit über sie, und ihr Morden und Schlagen treiben sie täglich vor mir.
“Be warned, O Jerusalem,
Or I shall be alienated from you,
And make you a desolation,
A land not inhabited.”

Bessere dich, Jerusalem, ehe sich mein Herz von dir wende und ich dich zum wüsten Lande mache, darin niemand wohne!

Pass your hand again like a grape gatherer
Over the branches.”

So spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Was übriggeblieben ist von Israel, das muß nachgelesen werden wie am Weinstock. Der Weinleser wird eins nach dem andern in die Butten werfen.
To whom shall I speak and give warning

Ach, mit wem soll ich doch reden und zeugen? Daß doch jemand hören wollte! Aber ihre Ohren sind unbeschnitten; sie können’s nicht hören. Siehe, sie halten des HERRN Wort für einen Spott und wollen es nicht.

Darum bin ich von des HERRN Dräuen so voll, daß ich’s nicht lassen kann. Schütte es aus über die Kinder auf der Gasse und über die Mannschaft im Rat miteinander; denn es sollen beide, Mann und Weib, Alte und der Wohlbetagte, gefangen werden.

Ihre Häuser sollen den Fremden zuteil werden samt den Äckern und Weibern; denn ich will meine Hand ausstrecken, spricht der HERR, über des Landes Einwohner.

Everyone is greedy for gain,
And from the prophet even to the priest
Everyone deals falsely.

Denn sie geizen allesamt, klein und groß; und beide, Propheten und Priester, gehen allesamt mit Lügen um

Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’

und trösten mein Volk in seinem Unglück, daß sie es gering achten sollen, und sagen: «Friede! Friede!,« und ist doch nicht Friede.
“Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done?
They were not even ashamed at all;
They did not even know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
At the time that I punish them,
They shall be cast down,” says the LORD.

Darum werden sie mit Schanden bestehen, daß sie solche Greuel treiben; wiewohl sie wollen ungeschändet sein und wollen sich nicht schämen. Darum müssen sie fallen auf einen Haufen; und wenn ich sie heimsuchen werde, sollen sie stürzen, spricht der HERR.

Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls.

So spricht der HERR: Tretet auf die Wege und schauet und fraget nach den vorigen Wegen, welches der gute Weg sei, und wandelt darin, so werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seele! Aber sie sprechen: Wir wollen’s nicht tun!

‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’

Ich habe Wächter über euch gesetzt: Merket auf die Stimme der Drommete! Aber sie sprechen: Wir wollen’s nicht tun!
“Therefore hear, O nations,
And know, O congregation, what is among them.

Darum so höret, ihr Heiden, und merket samt euren Leuten!
“Hear, O earth: behold, I am bringing disaster on this people,
The fruit of their plans,
Because they have not listened to My words,
And as for My law, they have rejected it also.

Du, Erde, höre zu! Siehe, ich will ein Unglück über dies Volk bringen, ihren verdienten Lohn, darum daß sie auf meine Worte nicht achten und mein Gesetz verwerfen.
“For what purpose does frankincense come to Me from Sheba
And the sweet cane from a distant land?
Your burnt offerings are not acceptable
And your sacrifices are not pleasing to Me.”

Was frage ich nach Weihrauch aus Reicharabien und nach den guten Zimtrinden, die aus fernen Landen kommen? Eure Brandopfer sind mir nicht angenehm, und eure Opfer gefallen mir nicht.
Therefore, thus says the LORD,
“Behold, I am laying stumbling blocks before this people.
And they will stumble against them,
Fathers and sons together;
Neighbor and friend will perish.”

Darum spricht der HERR also: Siehe, ich will diesem Volk einen Anstoß in den Weg stellen, daran sich die Väter und Kinder miteinander stoßen und ein Nachbar mit dem andern umkommen sollen.

Thus says the LORD,
“Behold, a people is coming from the north land,
And a great nation will be aroused from the remote parts of the earth.
So spricht der HERR: Siehe, es wird ein Volk kommen von Mitternacht, und ein großes Volk wird sich erregen vom Ende der Erde,
“They seize bow and spear;
They are cruel and have no mercy;
Their voice roars like the sea,
And they ride on horses,
Arrayed as a man for the battle
Against you, O daughter of Zion!”

die Bogen und Lanze führen. Es ist grausam und ohne Barmherzigkeit; sie brausen daher wie ein ungestümes Meer und reiten auf Rossen, gerüstet wie Kriegsleute, wider dich, du Tochter Zion.

Wenn wir von ihnen hören werden, so werden uns die Fäuste entsinken; es wird uns angst und weh werden wie einer Gebärerin.

Es gehe ja niemand hinaus auf den Acker, niemand gehe über Feld; denn es ist allenthalben unsicher vor dem Schwert des Feindes.
O daughter of my people, put on sackcloth

O Tochter meines Volks, zieh Säcke an und lege dich in die Asche; trag Leid wie um einen einzigen Sohn und klage wie die, so hoch betrübt sind! denn der Verderber kommt über uns plötzlich.
“I have made you an assayer and a tester among My people,
That you may know and assay their way.”

Ich habe dich zum Schmelzer gesetzt unter mein Volk, das so hart ist, daß du ihr Wesen erfahren und prüfen sollst.
All of them are stubbornly rebellious,
Going about as a talebearer.

Sie sind allzumal Abtrünnige und wandeln verräterisch, sind Erz und Eisen; alle sind sie verderbt.

Der Blasbalg ist verbrannt, das Blei verschwindet; das Schmelzen ist umsonst, denn das Böse ist nicht davon geschieden.
