Pharaoh Warned of Assyria’s Fate
In the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first of the month, the word of the LORD came to me saying,

Es geschah im elften Jahr, im dritten Monat, am ersten Tag des Monats, da erging das Wort des HERRN an mich:
“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his hordes,
‘Whom are you like in your greatness?
‘Whom are you like in your greatness?
Menschensohn, sag zum Pharao, dem König von Ägypten, und zu seinem Gefolge: Wem warst du in deiner Größe vergleichbar?
‘Behold, Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon
With beautiful branches and forest shade,
And very high,
And its top was among the clouds.

Siehe, Assur: Eine Zeder auf dem Libanon, prächtig war das Geäst, reichlich der Schatten, hoch der Wuchs und in die Wolken ragte ihr Wipfel.
‘The waters made it grow, the deep made it high.
With its rivers it continually extended all around its planting place,
And sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.

Wasser machte sie groß. Die Flut in der Tiefe ließ sie hoch emporwachsen. Ihre Ströme flossen rings um den Ort, wo sie gepflanzt war, sie leitete ihre Kanäle zu allen Bäumen des Feldes.
‘Therefore its height was loftier than all the trees of the field
And its boughs became many and its branches long
Because of many waters as it spread them out.

Darum war sie höher gewachsen als alle Bäume des Feldes. Ihre Zweige wurden sehr zahlreich und ihre Äste breiteten sich aus wegen des Reichtums an Wasser, als sie emporwuchs.
‘All the birds of the heavens nested in its boughs,
And under its branches all the beasts of the field gave birth,
And all great nations lived under its shade.

Alle Vögel des Himmels hatten ihr Nest in ihren Zweigen. Alle wilden Tiere brachten unter den Ästen ihre Jungen zur Welt. All die vielen Nationen wohnten in ihrem Schatten.
‘So it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches;
For its roots extended to many waters.

Schön war sie in ihrer Größe mit ihrem breiten Geäst; denn ihre Wurzeln hatten viel Wasser.
‘The cedars in God’s garden could not match it;
The cypresses could not compare with its boughs,
And the plane trees could not match its branches.
No tree in God’s garden could compare with it in its beauty.

Keine Zeder im Garten Gottes war ihr vergleichbar. Keine Zypresse hatte Zweige wie sie, keine Platane so mächtige Äste wie sie. Keiner der Bäume im Garten Gottes glich ihr in ihrer Schönheit.
‘I made it beautiful with the multitude of its branches,
And all the trees of Eden, which were in the garden of God, were jealous of it.

Ich hatte sie herrlich gemacht mit ihren zahlreichen Zweigen. Voll Eifersucht auf sie waren im Garten Gottes alle Bäume von Eden.
‘Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Because it is high in stature and has set its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness,
Darum — so spricht GOTT, der Herr: Weil du so hoch emporwuchsest — da sie mit ihrem Wipfel in die Wolken ragte und ihr Herz wegen ihrer Höhe überheblich wurde — ,
therefore I will give it into the hand of a despot of the nations; he will thoroughly deal with it. According to its wickedness I have driven it away.
deshalb gebe ich sie in die Hand des Herrschers der Nationen. Er handelt, ja behandelt sie nach ihrer Schlechtigkeit; ich vertreibe sie.
“Alien tyrants of the nations have cut it down and left it; on the mountains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen and its boughs have been broken in all the ravines of the land. And all the peoples of the earth have gone down from its shade and left it.
Fremde, die gewalttätigsten unter den Völkern, werden sie umhauen und hinwerfen. Ihre Zweige fallen auf die Berge und in alle Täler, ihre Äste zerbrechen in allen Schluchten der Erde. Alle Völker der Erde verlassen den Schatten der Zeder und lassen sie liegen.
“On its ruin all the birds of the heavens will dwell, and all the beasts of the field will be on its fallen branches
Auf ihren gefällten Stamm setzen sich alle Vögel des Himmels, die wilden Tiere hausen in ihren Zweigen.
so that all the trees by the waters may not be exalted in their stature, nor set their top among the clouds, nor their well-watered mighty ones stand erect in their height. For they have all been given over to death, to the earth beneath, among the sons of men, with those who go down to the pit.”
Dies, damit keiner der Bäume am Wasser sich seiner Größe wegen erhebt und mit seinem Wipfel in die Wolken ragt und keiner der vom Wasser getränkten Bäume in seiner Größe gegen sie aufsteht. Denn sie alle werden dem Tod ausgeliefert und sie müssen in das Land der Tiefe hinab inmitten der Menschensöhne, zu denen, die in die Grube hinabgestiegen sind.
‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “On the day when it went down to Sheol I caused lamentations; I closed the deep over it and held back its rivers. And its many waters were stopped up, and I made Lebanon mourn for it, and all the trees of the field wilted away on account of it.
So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Am Tag, da die Zeder in die Unterwelt hinabsteigt, rufe ich Trauer aus, ich bedecke ihretwegen die Flut; ich halte ihre Ströme zurück, sodass der Reichtum an Wasser versiegt. Ihretwegen hülle ich den Libanon in Trauer und alle Bäume des Feldes sinken ihretwegen in Ohnmacht.
“I made the nations quake at the sound of its fall when I made it go down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit; and all the well-watered trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, were comforted in the earth beneath.
Durch das Getöse ihres Sturzes lasse ich Völker erzittern, wenn ich sie in die Unterwelt hinabsteigen lasse, hinab zu denen, die in die Grube hinabgestiegen sind. Dann trösten sich im Land der Tiefe alle Bäume von Eden, die erlesenen und besten des Libanon, alle, die Wasser getrunken haben.
“They also went down with it to Sheol to those who were slain by the sword; and those who were its strength lived under its shade among the nations.
Auch sie steigen hinab zusammen mit ihr in die Unterwelt, hinab zu denen, die vom Schwert erschlagen wurden, sie und die, die ihr helfender Arm waren, die in ihrem Schatten wohnten, mitten unter den Nationen.
“To which among the trees of Eden are you thus equal in glory and greatness? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth beneath; you will lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who were slain by the sword. So is Pharaoh and all his hordes!”’ declares the Lord GOD.”
Wem warst du gleich unter den Bäumen von Eden an Größe und Pracht? Und doch wirst du zusammen mit den Bäumen von Eden in das Land der Tiefe hinuntergebracht. Dort wirst du mitten unter den Unbeschnittenen liegen, unter denen, die vom Schwert erschlagen wurden. Dies ist der Pharao und sein ganzes Gefolge — Spruch GOTTES, des Herrn.
