Judas Betrays Jesus
When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden, in which He entered with His disciples.

Da Jesus solches geredet hatte, ging er hinaus mit seinen Jüngern über den Bach Kidron; da war ein Garten, darein ging Jesus und seine Jünger.
Now Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often met there with His disciples.
Judas aber, der ihn verriet, wußte den Ort auch; denn Jesus versammelte sich oft daselbst mit seinen Jüngern.
Judas then, having received the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.
Da nun Judas zu sich hatte genommen die Schar und der Hohenpriester und Pharisäer Diener, kommt er dahin mit Fackeln, Lampen und mit Waffen.
So Jesus, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, went forth and said to them, “Whom do you seek?”
Wie nun Jesus wußte alles, was ihm begegnen sollte, ging er hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Wen suchet ihr?
They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them.
Sie antworteten ihm: Jesum von Nazareth. Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Ich bin’s! Judas aber, der ihn verriet, stand auch bei ihnen.
So when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
Als nun Jesus zu ihnen sprach: Ich bin’s! wichen sie zurück und fielen zu Boden.
Therefore He again asked them, “Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”
Da fragte er sie abermals: Wen suchet ihr? Sie aber sprachen: Jesum von Nazareth.
Jesus answered, “I told you that I am He; so if you seek Me, let these go their way,”
Jesus antwortete: Ich habe es euch gesagt, daß ich’s sei. Suchet ihr denn mich, so lasset diese gehen!
to fulfill the word which He spoke, “Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one.”
(Auf daß das Wort erfüllet würde, welches er sagte: Ich habe der keinen verloren, die du mir gegeben hast.)
Simon Peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave’s name was Malchus.
Da hatte Simon Petrus ein Schwert und zog es aus und schlug nach des Hohenpriesters Knecht und hieb ihm sein rechtes Ohr ab. Und der Knecht hieß Malchus.
So Jesus said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?”
Da sprach Jesus zu Petrus: Stecke dein Schwert in die Scheide! Soll ich den Kelch nicht trinken, den mir mein Vater gegeben hat?
Jesus before the Priests
So the Roman cohort and the commander and the officers of the Jews, arrested Jesus and bound Him,
Die Schar aber und der Oberhauptmann und die Diener der Juden nahmen Jesum und banden ihn
and led Him to Annas first; for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
und führten ihn zuerst zu Hannas; der war des Kaiphas Schwiegervater, welcher des Jahrs Hoherpriester war.
Now Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it was expedient for one man to die on behalf of the people.
Es war aber Kaiphas, der den Juden riet, es wäre gut, daß ein Mensch würde umgebracht für das Volk.
Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the court of the high priest,
Simon Petrus aber folgte Jesu nach und ein anderer Jünger. Dieser Jünger war den Hohenpriestern bekannt und ging mit Jesu hinein in des Hohenpriesters Palast.
but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.
Petrus aber stand draußen vor der Tür. Da ging der andere Jünger, der dem Hohenpriester bekannt war, hinaus und redete mit der Türhüterin und führte Petrus hinein.
Then the slave-girl who kept the door said to Peter, “You are not also one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.”
Da sprach die Magd, die Türhüterin, zu Petrus: Bist du nicht auch dieses Menschen Jünger einer? Er sprach: Ich bin’s nicht.
Now the slaves and the officers were standing there, having made a charcoal fire, for it was cold and they were warming themselves; and Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.
Es standen aber die Knechte und Diener und hatten ein Kohlenfeuer gemacht, denn es war kalt, und wärmten sich. Petrus aber stand bei ihnen und wärmte sich.
The high priest then questioned Jesus about His disciples, and about His teaching.
Aber der Hohepriester fragte Jesum um seine Jünger und um seine Lehre.
Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret.
Jesus antwortete ihm: Ich habe frei öffentlich geredet vor der Welt; ich habe allezeit gelehrt in der Schule und in dem Tempel, da alle Juden zusammenkommen, und habe nichts im Verborgenen geredet.
“Why do you question Me? Question those who have heard what I spoke to them; they know what I said.”
Was fragst du mich darum? Frage die darum, die gehört haben, was ich zu ihnen geredet habe; siehe, diese wissen, was ich gesagt habe.
When He had said this, one of the officers standing nearby struck Jesus, saying, “Is that the way You answer the high priest?”
Als er aber solches redete, gab der Diener einer, die dabeistanden, Jesu einen Backenstreich und sprach: Sollst du dem Hohenpriester also antworten?
Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?”
Jesus antwortete: Habe ich übel geredet, so beweise es, daß es böse sei; habe ich aber recht geredet, was schlägst du mich?
So Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
Und Hannas sandte ihn gebunden zu dem Hohenpriester Kaiphas.
Peter’s Denial of Jesus
Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You are not also one of His disciples, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.”
Simon Petrus aber stand und wärmte sich. Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Bist du nicht seiner Jünger einer? Er leugnete aber und sprach: Ich bin’s nicht!
One of the slaves of the high priest, being a relative of the one whose ear Peter cut off, said, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?”
Spricht einer von des Hohenpriesters Knechten, ein Gefreunder des, dem Petrus ein Ohr abgehauen hatte: Sah ich dich nicht im Garten bei ihm?
Peter then denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed.
Da leugnete Petrus abermals, und alsbald krähte der Hahn.
Jesus before Pilate
Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
Da führten sie Jesum von Kaiphas vor das Richthaus. Und es war früh; und sie gingen nicht in das Richthaus, auf daß sie nicht unrein würden, sondern Ostern essen möchten.
Therefore Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this Man?”
Da ging Pilatus zu ihnen heraus und sprach: Was bringt ihr für Klage wider diesen Menschen?
They answered and said to him, “If this Man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him to you.”
Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Wäre dieser nicht ein Übeltäter, wir hätten dir ihn nicht überantwortet.
So Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.” The Jews said to him, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death,”
Da sprach Pilatus zu ihnen: So nehmt ihr ihn hin und richtet ihn nach eurem Gesetz. Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Wir dürfen niemand töten.
to fulfill the word of Jesus which He spoke, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die.
(Auf das erfüllet würde das Wort Jesu, welches er sagte, da er deutete, welches Todes er sterben würde.)
Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
Da ging Pilatus wieder hinein ins Richthaus und rief Jesum und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der Juden König?
Jesus answered, “Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?”
Jesus antwortete: Redest du das von dir selbst, oder haben’s dir andere von mir gesagt?
Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?”
Pilatus antwortete: Bin ich ein Jude? Dein Volk und die Hohenpriester haben dich mir überantwortet. Was hast du getan?
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”
Jesus antwortete: Mein Reich ist nicht von dieser Welt. Wäre mein Reich von dieser Welt, meine Diener würden kämpfen, daß ich den Juden nicht überantwortet würde; aber nun ist mein Reich nicht von dannen.
Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
Da sprach Pilatus zu ihm: So bist du dennoch ein König? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es, ich bin ein König. Ich bin dazu geboren und in die Welt gekommen, daß ich für die Wahrheit zeugen soll. Wer aus der Wahrheit ist, der höret meine Stimme.
Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”
And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in Him.
And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in Him.
Spricht Pilatus zu ihm: Was ist Wahrheit? Und da er das gesagt, ging er wieder hinaus zu den Juden und spricht zu ihnen: Ich finde keine Schuld an ihm.
“But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?”
Ihr habt aber eine Gewohnheit, daß ich euch einen auf Ostern losgebe; wollt ihr nun, daß ich euch der Juden König losgebe?
