Bald darauf erfuhren die Apostel und die Gläubigen überall in Judäa, dass nun auch Nichtjuden Gottes Botschaft angenommen hatten.
And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those who were circumcised took issue with him,
Als Petrus nach Jerusalem zurückkehrte, warfen ihm die Gemeindeglieder dort vor:
saying, “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.”
»Du hast das Haus von Nichtjuden betreten und sogar mit ihnen gegessen!«
But Peter began speaking and proceeded to explain to them in orderly sequence, saying,

“I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky; and it came right down to me,

and when I had fixed my gaze on it and was observing it I saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild beasts and the crawling creatures and the birds of the air.
Als ich genau hinsah, entdeckte ich darin die unterschiedlichsten Arten von vierfüßigen und wilden Tieren, von Kriechtieren und Vögeln.
“I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Get up, Peter; kill and eat.’
Ich hörte eine Stimme, die mich aufforderte: ›Petrus, steh auf, schlachte diese Tiere und iss davon!‹
“But I said, ‘By no means, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’
›Niemals, Herr‹, widersprach ich. ›Noch nie in meinem Leben habe ich etwas gegessen, was in Moses Gesetz als unrein bezeichnet wird und verboten ist.‹
“But a voice from heaven answered a second time, ‘What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.’
Aber die Stimme vom Himmel sprach noch einmal: ›Wenn Gott etwas für rein erklärt hat, dann nenne du es nicht unrein.‹
“This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into the sky.
Dreimal wiederholte sich dieser Vorgang. Dann wurde das Tuch mit den Tieren darin wieder in den Himmel gehoben.
“And behold, at that moment three men appeared at the house in which we were staying, having been sent to me from Caesarea.
Genau in diesem Augenblick standen drei Männer vor dem Haus, in dem ich mich befand. Sie kamen aus Cäsarea und waren zu mir geschickt worden.
“The Spirit told me to go with them without misgivings. These six brethren also went with me and we entered the man’s house.
Der Heilige Geist forderte mich auf, ich solle ohne Bedenken mit den Männern gehen, und diese sechs Brüder hier begleiteten mich. Bald trafen wir im Haus des Mannes ein, der die Boten geschickt hatte.
“And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, ‘Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here;
Er erzählte, dass ihm in seinem Haus ein Engel erschienen war. Der hatte plötzlich vor ihm gestanden und befohlen: ›Schick Boten nach Joppe und lass Simon Petrus holen.
and he will speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’
Was er dir zu sagen hat, wird dir und allen, die zu dir gehören, Rettung bringen.‹
“And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning.
Ich war noch gar nicht lange bei ihnen und hatte gerade zu reden angefangen, da kam der Heilige Geist auf sie, genauso wie es bei uns am Pfingsttag gewesen war.
“And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
In diesem Augenblick fiel mir ein, was uns der Herr einmal gesagt hatte: ›Johannes hat mit Wasser getauft, ihr aber werdet mit dem Heiligen Geist getauft werden.‹
“Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?”
Gott schenkte diesen Nichtjuden dieselbe Gabe wie vorher uns, als wir begannen, an den Herrn Jesus Christus zu glauben. Wer bin ich, dass ich Gott daran hätte hindern können?«
When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, “Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life.”
Diese Worte überzeugten sie. Sie lobten Gott und sagten: »Gott hat nun also auch den Nichtjuden den Weg zur Umkehr eröffnet, den einzigen Weg, der zum Leben führt.«
The Church at Antioch
So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone.
Fast alle Gläubigen waren wegen der beginnenden Verfolgung nach dem Tod von Stephanus aus Jerusalem geflohen und hatten sich über Judäa und Samarien zerstreut. Manche kamen sogar bis nach Phönizien, Zypern und Antiochia. Sie erzählten aber nur den Juden von Jesus.
But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus.
Lediglich ein paar von ihnen — Männer aus Zypern und Kyrene, die jetzt in Antiochia lebten — verkündeten auch den Nichtjuden die rettende Botschaft von Jesus, dem Herrn.
And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.
Der Herr wirkte mächtig durch sie, und so wandten sich ihm viele Menschen zu und glaubten an ihn.
The news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch.
Als die Gemeinde in Jerusalem davon erfuhr, schickte sie Barnabas nach Antiochia.
Then when he arrived and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord;
Der kam in die Stadt und erkannte voller Freude, was Gott in seiner Gnade getan hatte. Barnabas ermutigte die Gläubigen, fest und entschlossen in ihrem Glauben an den Herrn zu bleiben.
for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord.
Er war ein vorbildlicher Mann, erfüllt vom Heiligen Geist und stark im Glauben. So begannen damals viele Menschen Jesus, dem Herrn, zu vertrauen.
And he left for Tarsus to look for Saul;
Von Antiochia reiste Barnabas nach Tarsus, um Saulus aufzusuchen.
and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Er traf ihn und nahm ihn dann mit nach Antiochia zurück. Dort blieben die beiden ein ganzes Jahr lang in der Gemeinde, um viele Menschen im Glauben zu unterweisen. In Antiochia wurden die Jünger zum ersten Mal »Christen« genannt.
Now at this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

One of them named Agabus stood up and began to indicate by the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all over the world. And this took place in the reign of Claudius.

And in the proportion that any of the disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of the brethren living in Judea.
