Samson’s Marriage

Als Simson sich einmal bei den Philistern in Timna aufhielt, sah er dort eine junge Frau, die ihm besonders gefiel.
So he came back and told his father and mother, “I saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife.”
Er kehrte nach Hause zurück und erzählte seinen Eltern von ihr: »Ich habe in Timna eine junge Philisterin gesehen. Sorgt dafür, dass ich sie heiraten kann!«
Then his father and his mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she looks good to me.”
Seine Eltern erwiderten: »Gibt es denn keine Mädchen hier in unserem Stamm oder unserem Volk? Musst du wirklich zu den Philistern gehen und dir bei diesen unbeschnittenen Heiden eine Frau suchen?« Doch Simson blieb hartnäckig: »Ich will sie und keine andere! Sie gefällt mir!«
However, his father and mother did not know that it was of the LORD, for He was seeking an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.
Seine Eltern wussten nicht, dass der HERR dabei seine Hand im Spiel hatte, weil er den Philistern schaden wollte. Denn zu dieser Zeit herrschten die Philister über die Israeliten.
Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came as far as the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion came roaring toward him.
Simson brach mit seinen Eltern nach Timna auf. Als er bei den Weinbergen der Stadt ein Stück allein abseits des Weges lief, stand ihm plötzlich ein brüllender junger Löwe gegenüber.
The Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily, so that he tore him as one tears a young goat though he had nothing in his hand; but he did not tell his father or mother what he had done.
Da wurde Simson vom Geist des HERRN ergriffen. Er zerriss den Löwen mit bloßen Händen, als wäre es eine kleine Ziege. Seinen Eltern erzählte er nichts davon.
So he went down and talked to the woman; and she looked good to Samson.
Er besuchte die Philisterin und sprach mit ihr. In seinen Augen war sie genau die Richtige für ihn.
When he returned later to take her, he turned aside to look at the carcass of the lion; and behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the body of the lion.
Einige Zeit später gingen sie wieder nach Timna, um die Hochzeit zu feiern. Vor der Stadt bog Simson vom Weg ab und sah nach dem toten Löwen. In dem Kadaver entdeckte er einen Schwarm Bienen und Honigwaben.
So he scraped the honey into his hands and went on, eating as he went. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey out of the body of the lion.
Er nahm den Honig heraus und begann ihn im Weitergehen zu essen. Als er wieder bei seinen Eltern war, gab er auch ihnen davon, sagte ihnen aber nicht, dass er den Honig aus dem Körper des toten Löwen geholt hatte.
Then his father went down to the woman; and Samson made a feast there, for the young men customarily did this.
In Timna ging sein Vater zur Familie der jungen Frau, während Simson als Bräutigam das Fest vorbereitete. So war es damals Sitte.
When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.
Als die Angehörigen der Braut sahen, dass Simson in Timna eingetroffen war, schickten sie ihm dreißig junge Männer, die mit ihm zusammen feiern sollten.
Samson’s Riddle
Then Samson said to them, “Let me now propound a riddle to you; if you will indeed tell it to me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen wraps and thirty changes of clothes.
Simson sagte zu ihnen: »Ich möchte euch ein Rätsel stellen. Wenn ihr es in der Festwoche löst, gebe ich euch dreißig wertvolle Leinenhemden und dreißig kostbare Gewänder.
“But if you are unable to tell me, then you shall give me thirty linen wraps and thirty changes of clothes.” And they said to him, “Propound your riddle, that we may hear it.”
Aber wenn ihr es nicht herausbekommt, müsst ihr mir dreißig Hemden und dreißig Gewänder geben.« »Lass dein Rätsel hören!«, antworteten sie.
So he said to them,
“Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.”
But they could not tell the riddle in three days.

Da fragte Simson: »Was bedeutet das: Von dem, der frisst, bekam ich zu essen, und der Starke gab mir Süßes?« Drei Tage vergingen, ohne dass die Männer das Rätsel lösen konnten.
Then it came about on the fourth day that they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, so that he will tell us the riddle, or we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us to impoverish us? Is this not so?”
Am vierten Tag drohten sie Simsons Braut: »Verleite deinen Mann dazu, dir die Lösung zu verraten, und sag sie uns! Sonst werden wir dich und die Familie deiner Eltern verbrennen! Oder habt ihr uns bloß eingeladen, um uns arm zu machen?«
Samson’s wife wept before him and said, “You only hate me, and you do not love me; you have propounded a riddle to the sons of my people, and have not told it to me.” And he said to her, “Behold, I have not told it to my father or mother; so should I tell you?”
Die Frau ging zu Simson und brach in Tränen aus: »Du liebst mich nicht! In Wirklichkeit hasst du mich nur! Du stellst den Männern meines Volkes ein Rätsel und verschweigst mir die Lösung.« Er antwortete: »Nicht einmal meinen Eltern habe ich sie verraten, und da sollte ich sie bei dir ausplaudern?«
However she wept before him seven days while their feast lasted. And on the seventh day he told her because she pressed him so hard. She then told the riddle to the sons of her people.
Während der ganzen Festwoche weinte sie, wenn sie bei ihm war. Am siebten Tag schließlich flehte sie ihn so lange an, bis er ihr die Lösung anvertraute, und sie erzählte es den Philistern.
So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down,
“What is sweeter than honey?
And what is stronger than a lion?”
And he said to them,
“If you had not plowed with my heifer,
You would not have found out my riddle.”
“What is sweeter than honey?

And he said to them,
“If you had not plowed with my heifer,
You would not have found out my riddle.”
Bevor die Sonne unterging, sagten die Männer zu Simson: »Was ist süßer als Honig und stärker als ein Löwe?« Er erwiderte: »Hättet ihr nicht mit meinem Kalb gepflügt, dann hättet ihr das Rätsel nicht gelöst.«
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of them and took their spoil and gave the changes of clothes to those who told the riddle. And his anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.
Da wurde er vom Geist des HERRN ergriffen. Simson ging nach Aschkelon, tötete dreißig Philister, nahm ihre Gewänder und brachte sie den Männern, die sein Rätsel gelöst hatten. Dann kehrte er voller Zorn ins Haus seiner Eltern zurück.
