Elkanah and His Wives
Now there was a certain man from Ramathaim-zophim from the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
Now there was a certain man from Ramathaim-zophim from the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
Einst lebte ein Mann aus Ramatajim, ein Zufiter vom Gebirge Efraim. Er hieß Elkana und war ein Sohn Jerohams, des Sohnes Elihus, des Sohnes Tohus, des Sohnes Zufs, ein Efraimiter.
He had two wives: the name of one was Hannah and the name of the other Peninnah; and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
Er hatte zwei Frauen. Die eine hieß Hanna, die andere Peninna. Peninna hatte Kinder, Hanna aber hatte keine Kinder.
Now this man would go up from his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the LORD there.
Dieser Mann zog Jahr für Jahr von seiner Stadt hinauf, um den HERRN der Heerscharen in Schilo anzubeten und ihm zu opfern. Dort waren Hofni und Pinhas, die beiden Söhne Elis, Priester des HERRN.
When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters;
An dem Tag, an dem Elkana das Opfer darbrachte, gab er seiner Frau Peninna und all ihren Söhnen und Töchtern ihre Anteile.
but to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but the LORD had closed her womb.
Hanna aber gab er einen doppelten Anteil; denn er hatte Hanna lieb, obwohl der HERR ihren Schoß verschlossen hatte.
Her rival, however, would provoke her bitterly to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb.
Ihre Rivalin aber kränkte und demütigte sie sehr, weil der HERR ihren Schoß verschlossen hatte.
It happened year after year, as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she would provoke her; so she wept and would not eat.
So machte es Elkana Jahr für Jahr. Sooft sie zum Haus des HERRN hinaufzogen, kränkte Peninna sie; und Hanna weinte und aß nichts.
Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep and why do you not eat and why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
Ihr Mann Elkana fragte sie: Hanna, warum weinst du, warum isst du nichts, warum ist dein Herz betrübt? Bin ich dir nicht viel mehr wert als zehn Söhne?
Then Hannah rose after eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
Nachdem man in Schilo gegessen und getrunken hatte, stand Hanna auf. Der Priester Eli saß an den Türpfosten des Tempels des HERRN auf seinem Stuhl.
She, greatly distressed, prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly.
Hanna war verzweifelt, betete zum HERRN und weinte sehr.
She made a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head.”
Sie machte ein Gelübde und sagte: HERR der Heerscharen, wenn du das Elend deiner Magd wirklich ansiehst, wenn du an mich denkst und deine Magd nicht vergisst und deiner Magd einen männlichen Nachkommen schenkst, dann will ich ihn für sein ganzes Leben dem HERRN überlassen; kein Schermesser soll an sein Haupt kommen.
Now it came about, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli was watching her mouth.
So betete sie lange vor dem HERRN. Eli beobachtete ihren Mund;
As for Hannah, she was speaking in her heart, only her lips were moving, but her voice was not heard. So Eli thought she was drunk.
denn Hanna redete in ihrem Herzen, ihre Lippen bewegten sich, doch ihre Stimme war nicht zu hören. Eli hielt sie deshalb für betrunken
Then Eli said to her, “How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine from you.”
und sagte zu ihr: Wie lange willst du dich noch wie eine Betrunkene aufführen? Sieh zu, dass du deinen Weinrausch los wirst!
But Hannah replied, “No, my lord, I am a woman oppressed in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD.
Hanna gab zur Antwort: Nein, Herr! Ich bin eine unglückliche Frau. Ich habe weder Wein getrunken noch Bier; ich habe nur dem HERRN mein Herz ausgeschüttet.
“Do not consider your maidservant as a worthless woman, for I have spoken until now out of my great concern and provocation.”
Halte deine Magd nicht für eine nichtsnutzige Frau; denn nur aus großem Kummer und aus Traurigkeit habe ich so lange geredet.
Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of Him.”
Eli erwiderte und sagte: Geh in Frieden! Der Gott Israels wird dir die Bitte erfüllen, die du an ihn gerichtet hast.
She said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
Sie sagte: Möge deine Magd Gnade finden vor deinen Augen. Dann ging sie weg; sie aß wieder und hatte kein trauriges Gesicht mehr.
Samuel Is Born to Hannah
Then they arose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD, and returned again to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.
Am nächsten Morgen standen sie früh auf und beteten den HERRN an. Dann machten sie sich auf den Heimweg und kehrten in ihr Haus nach Rama zurück. Elkana erkannte seine Frau Hanna; der HERR dachte an sie
It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of the LORD.”
und um die Jahreswende wurde Hanna schwanger. Sie gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Samuel, denn sie sagte: Ich habe ihn vom HERRN erbeten.
Then the man Elkanah went up with all his household to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice and pay his vow.
Als dann Elkana mit seiner ganzen Familie wieder hinaufzog, um dem HERRN das jährliche Opfer und die Gaben, die er gelobt hatte, darzubringen,
But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “I will not go up until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD and stay there forever.”
zog Hanna nicht mit, sondern sagte zu ihrem Mann: Ich werde den Knaben erst, wenn er entwöhnt ist, hinaufbringen; dann soll er vor dem Angesicht des HERRN erscheinen und für immer dort bleiben.
Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems best to you. Remain until you have weaned him; only may the LORD confirm His word.” So the woman remained and nursed her son until she weaned him.
Ihr Mann Elkana sagte zu ihr: Tu, was dir gefällt! Bleib hier, bis du ihn entwöhnt hast! Wenn nur der HERR sein Wort erfüllt! Die Frau blieb also daheim und stillte ihren Sohn, bis sie ihn entwöhnte.
Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with a three-year-old bull and one ephah of flour and a jug of wine, and brought him to the house of the LORD in Shiloh, although the child was young.
Als sie ihn entwöhnt hatte, nahm sie ihn mit hinauf, dazu einen dreijährigen Stier, ein Efa Mehl und einen Schlauch Wein. So brachte sie ihn zum Haus des HERRN in Schilo; der Knabe aber war damals noch sehr jung.
Then they slaughtered the bull, and brought the boy to Eli.
Als sie den Stier geschlachtet hatten, brachten sie den Knaben zu Eli
She said, “Oh, my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the LORD.
und Hanna sagte: Bitte, mein Herr, so wahr du lebst, mein Herr, ich bin die Frau, die damals neben dir stand, um zum HERRN zu beten.
“For this boy I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of Him.
Ich habe um diesen Knaben gebetet und der HERR hat mir die Bitte erfüllt, die ich an ihn gerichtet habe.
