Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.
Ein Lied von Asaf. Gott ist gut zu Israel, zu allen, die ein reines Herz haben. Das kann niemand bestreiten!
But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;
I had nearly lost my foothold.

Ich aber wäre beinahe gestrauchelt; es fehlte nicht viel, und ich wäre zu Fall gekommen.
For I envied the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Denn ich beneidete die überheblichen Menschen: Ihnen geht es so gut, obwohl Gott ihnen gleichgültig ist.
Ihr Leben lang haben sie keine Schmerzen, sie strotzen vor Gesundheit und Kraft.

Sie tun, als kämen ihre Worte vom Himmel; sie meinen, ihre Sprüche seien für die ganze Menschheit wichtig.
Darum läuft sogar Gottes Volk ihnen nach, gierig saugt es ihre Worte auf wie frisches Wasser.

Denn diese eingebildeten Leute sagen: »Gott kümmert sich um nichts — wie sollte er auch? Er thront weit oben und weiß nicht, was sich hier unten abspielt!«

Selbstsicher und sorglos leben sie in den Tag hinein, ihr Vermögen und ihre Macht werden immer größer.
Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure

Also versuchte ich zu begreifen, warum es dem Gottlosen gut und dem Frommen schlecht geht, aber es war viel zu schwer für mich.
