Während Jojakims Regierungszeit schickte König Nebukadnezar von Babylonien seine Truppen gegen Juda und zwang Jojakim, sich ihm zu unterwerfen. Doch nach drei Jahren lehnte Jojakim sich auf und sagte sich von Nebukadnezar los.
Da ließ der HERR Räuberbanden aus Babylonien, Syrien, Moab und Ammon in Juda einfallen, um Juda zugrunde zu richten. Es sollte sich erfüllen, was der HERR durch seine Diener, die Propheten, angekündigt hatte.
Surely at the commandment of the Lord this came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done,

and also because of the innocent blood that he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which the Lord would not pardon.

So Jehoiakim rested with his fathers. Then Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.

Also he carried into captivity all Jerusalem: all the captains and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths. None remained except the poorest people of the land.

And he carried Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. The king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.

All the valiant men, seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths, one thousand, all who were strong and fit for war, these the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.
Nebukadnezar ließ 7000 Soldaten und 1000 Schmiede und Schlosser, alles erfahrene und tüchtige Leute, nach Babylonien verschleppen.
In Jerusalem setzte er an Jojachins Stelle Mattanja als König ein. Mattanja war der Onkel von Jojachin, der Bruder seines Vaters. Nebukadnezar änderte seinen Namen in Zedekia.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
Zedekia wurde mit 21 Jahren König und regierte elf Jahre in Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Hamutal und war eine Tochter von Jirmeja aus Libna.
He also did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.
Wie Jojakim tat auch Zedekia, was dem HERRN missfiel.
For because of the anger of the Lord this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, that He finally cast them out from His presence. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
Der HERR war voller Zorn über die Bewohner von Jerusalem und Juda, und so verstieß er sie aus seiner Nähe. Auch Zedekia lehnte sich gegen die Herrschaft des babylonischen Königs auf.
