Rehoboam’s Reign in Judah

Now when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled from the house of Judah and Benjamin one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.

Und da Rehabeam gen Jerusalem kam, versammelte er das ganze Haus Juda und Benjamin, 180,000 junger Mannschaft, die streitbar waren, wider Israel zu streiten, daß sie das Königreich wieder an Rehabeam brächten.

But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Aber des HERRN Wort kam zu Semaja, dem Mann Gottes, und sprach:

“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

Sage Rehabeam, dem Sohn Salomos, dem König Juda’s, und dem ganzen Israel, das in Juda und Benjamin ist, und sprich:

‘Thus says the Lord: “You shall not go up or fight against your brethren! Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.” ’ ” Therefore they obeyed the words of the Lord, and turned back from attacking Jeroboam.

So spricht der HERR: Ihr sollt nicht hinaufziehen noch wider eure Brüder streiten; ein jeglicher gehe wieder heim; denn das ist von mir geschehen. Sie gehorchten den Worten des HERRN und ließen ab von dem Zug wider Jerobeam.

Rehoboam Fortifies the Cities

So Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

Rehabeam aber wohnte zu Jerusalem und baute Städte zu Festungen in Juda,

And he built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,

nämlich: Bethlehem, Etam, Thekoa,

Beth Zur, Sochoh, Adullam,

Beth–Zur, Socho, Adullam,

Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,

Gath, Maresa, Siph,

Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

Adoraim, Lachis, Aseka,

Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, fortified cities.

Zora, Ajalon und Hebron, welche waren die festen Städte in Juda und Benjamin;

And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.

und machte sie stark und setzte Fürsten darein und Vorrat von Speise, Öl und Wein.

Also in every city he put shields and spears, and made them very strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

Und in allen Städten schaffte er Schilde und Spieße und machte sie sehr stark. Und Juda und Benjamin waren unter ihm.

Priests and Levites Move to Judah

And from all their territories the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel took their stand with him.

Auch machten sich zu ihm die Priester und Leviten aus ganz Israel und allem ihrem Gebiet;

For the Levites left their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the Lord.

denn die Leviten verließen ihre Vorstädte und Habe und kamen zu Juda gen Jerusalem. Denn Jerobeam und seine Söhne verstießen sie, daß sie vor dem HERRN nicht des Priesteramtes pflegen konnten.

Then he appointed for himself priests for the [a]high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.

Er stiftete sich aber Priester zu den Höhen und zu den Feldteufeln und Kälbern, die er machen ließ.

And [b]after the Levites left, those from all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers.

Und nach ihnen kamen aus allen Stämmen Israels, die ihr Herz gaben, daß sie nach dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, fragten, gen Jerusalem, daß sie opferten dem HERRN, dem Gott ihrer Väter.

So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.

Und stärkten also das Königreich Juda und befestigten Rehabeam, den Sohn Salomos, drei Jahre lang; denn sie wandelten in den Wegen Davids und Salomos drei Jahre.

The Family of Rehoboam

Then Rehoboam took for himself as wife Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliah the son of Jesse.

Und Rehabeam nahm Mahalath, die Tochter Jerimoths, des Sohnes Davids, zum Weibe und Abihail, die Tochter Eliabs, des Sohnes Isais.

And she bore him children: Jeush, Shamariah, and Zaham.

Die gebar ihm diese Söhne: Jeus, Semarja und Saham.

After her he took Maachah the [c]granddaughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

Nach der nahm er Maacha, die Tochter Absaloms; die gebar ihm Abia, Atthai, Sisa und Selomith.

Now Rehoboam loved Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

Aber Rehabeam hatte Maacha, die Tochter Absaloms, lieber denn alle seine Weiber und Kebsweiber; denn er hatte 18 Weiber und 60 Kebsweiber und zeugte 28 Söhne und 60 Töchter.

And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maachah as chief, to be leader among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.

Und Rehabeam setzte Abia, den Sohn Maachas, zum Haupt und Fürsten unter seinen Brüdern; denn er gedachte ihn zum König zu machen.

He dealt wisely, and [d]dispersed some of his sons throughout all the territories of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them provisions in abundance. He also sought many wives for them.

Und er handelte klüglich und verteilte alle seine Söhne in die Lande Juda und Benjamin in alle festen Städte, und er gab ihnen Nahrung die Menge und nahm ihnen viele Weiber.
