The Eighth Plague: Locusts
Now the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him,
Now the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him,
Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Geh zum Pharao! Ich habe sein Herz und das Herz seiner Diener verschlossen, damit ich diese Zeichen unter ihnen vollbringen konnte
and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son’s son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.”
und damit du deinem Sohn und deinem Enkel erzählen kannst, was ich den Ägyptern angetan und welche Zeichen ich unter ihnen vollbracht habe. Dann werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.
So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
Mose und Aaron gingen zum Pharao und sagten: So spricht der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer: Wie lange willst du dich noch weigern, dich mir zu unterwerfen? Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit sie mir dienen können!
Or else, if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.
Wenn du dich weigerst, mein Volk ziehen zu lassen, so schicke ich morgen Heuschrecken über dein Land.
And they shall cover the face of the earth, so that no one will be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of what is left, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field.
Sie werden die Oberfläche der Erde bedecken, sodass man den Erdboden nicht mehr sehen kann. Sie werden auch noch das verzehren, was der Hagel verschont hat, und alle Bäume kahl fressen, die auf euren Feldern wachsen.
They shall fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians — which neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’ ” And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.
Deine Häuser, die Häuser aller deiner Diener und die aller Ägypter werden voll davon sein. So etwas haben deine Väter und Vorväter bis heute nicht gesehen, seitdem sie in diesem Land leben. Dann wandte sich Mose um und verließ den Pharao.
Then Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is destroyed?”
Die Diener sagten zum Pharao: Wie lange soll uns dieser Mann noch Unglück bringen? Lass die Leute ziehen, damit sie dem HERRN, ihrem Gott, dienen können! Merkst du denn noch immer nicht, dass Ägypten zugrunde geht?
So Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve the Lord your God. Who are the ones that are going?”
Da holte man Mose und Aaron zum Pharao zurück und er sagte zu ihnen: Geht, dient dem HERRN, eurem Gott! Wer von euch will denn mitgehen?
And Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we will go, for we must hold a feast to the Lord.”
Mose antwortete: Wir gehen mit Jung und Alt, mit unseren Söhnen und Töchtern; auch die Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder nehmen wir mit. Denn wir feiern ein Fest des HERRN.
Then he said to them, “The Lord had better be with you when I let you and your little ones go! Beware, for evil is ahead of you.
Da sagte er zu ihnen: Dann sei der HERR ebenso wenig mit euch, wie ich euch und eure Kinder ziehen lasse. Seht, ihr habt Böses im Sinn.
Not so! Go now, you who are men, and serve the Lord, for that is what you desired.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
Nein, nur ihr Männer dürft gehen und dem HERRN dienen; denn das habt ihr verlangt. Und man jagte sie vom Pharao weg.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land — all that the hail has left.”
Darauf sprach der HERR zu Mose: Streck deine Hand über das Land Ägypten aus! Dann werden Heuschrecken kommen und über das Land Ägypten herfallen. Sie werden den ganzen Pflanzenwuchs des Landes auffressen, alles, was der Hagel verschont hat.
So Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
Da streckte Mose seinen Stab über das Land Ägypten aus und der HERR schickte den Ostwind in das Land, einen ganzen Tag und eine ganze Nacht lang. Als es Morgen wurde, hatte der Ostwind die Heuschrecken ins Land gebracht.
And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt and rested on all the territory of Egypt. They were very severe; previously there had been no such locusts as they, nor shall there be such after them.
Sie fielen über ganz Ägypten her und ließen sich in Schwärmen auf dem Gebiet von Ägypten nieder. Niemals vorher gab es so viele Heuschrecken wie damals, auch wird es nie wieder so viele geben.
For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. So there remained nothing green on the trees or on the plants of the field throughout all the land of Egypt.
Sie bedeckten die Oberfläche des ganzen Landes und das Land war schwarz von ihnen. Sie fraßen allen Pflanzenwuchs des Landes und alle Baumfrüchte auf, die der Hagel verschont hatte, und an den Bäumen und Feldpflanzen im ganzen Land Ägypten blieb nichts Grünes.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you.
Da ließ der Pharao Mose und Aaron eiligst rufen und sagte zu ihnen: Ich habe gegen den HERRN, euren Gott, gesündigt und auch gegen euch.
Nur noch diesmal nehmt meine Sünde von mir und betet zum HERRN, eurem Gott, er möge mich wenigstens noch von dieser tödlichen Gefahr befreien.
So he went out from Pharaoh and entreated the Lord.
Mose verließ den Pharao und betete zum HERRN.
And the Lord turned a very strong west wind, which took the locusts away and blew them into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the territory of Egypt.
Der HERR ließ den Wind in einen sehr starken Westwind umschlagen, der die Heuschrecken forttrug und ins Rote Meer warf. Im ganzen Gebiet von Ägypten blieb keine einzige Heuschrecke mehr übrig.
But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.
Der HERR aber verhärtete das Herz des Pharao, sodass er die Israeliten nicht ziehen ließ.
Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Streck deine Hand zum Himmel aus; dann wird eine Finsternis über das Land Ägypten kommen und es wird stockdunkel werden.
So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.
Mose streckte seine Hand zum Himmel aus und schon breitete sich tiefe Finsternis über das ganze Land Ägypten aus, drei Tage lang.
They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
Man konnte einander nicht sehen und sich nicht von der Stelle rühren, drei Tage lang. Wo aber die Israeliten wohnten, blieb es hell.
Then Pharaoh called to Moses and said, “Go, serve the Lord; only let your flocks and your herds be kept back. Let your little ones also go with you.”
Da ließ der Pharao Mose rufen und sagte: Geht und dient dem HERRN! Nur eure Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder sollen bleiben. Eure Kinder dürfen mitziehen.
Mose erwiderte: Selbst wenn du uns Schlacht- und Brandopfer mitgäbest, damit wir sie dem HERRN, unserem Gott, darbringen,
Our livestock also shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind. For we must take some of them to serve the Lord our God, and even we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.”
müssten unsere Herden doch mitgehen, keine Klaue darf zurückbleiben. Denn aus unseren Herden nehmen wir das Opfer, mit dem wir dem HERRN, unserem Gott, dienen; aber mit welchem Opfertier wir dem HERRN dienen sollen, wissen wir nicht, ehe wir dort angekommen sind.
But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go.
Der HERR verhärtete das Herz des Pharao, sodass er sie nicht ziehen lassen wollte.
Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Take heed to yourself and see my face no more! For in the day you see my face you shall die!”
Der Pharao sagte zu ihm: Weg von mir! Hüte dich, mir jemals wieder unter die Augen zu treten. Denn an dem Tag, an dem du mir unter die Augen trittst, musst du sterben.
