Gideon’s Valiant Three Hundred

And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
Der HERR sagte zu Gideon: Die Leute, die du bei dir hast, sind zu zahlreich, als dass ich Midian in ihre Hand geben könnte. Sonst könnte sich Israel mir gegenüber rühmen und sagen: Meine eigene Hand hat mich gerettet.
Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’ ” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.
Nun also, rufe vor den Ohren der Leute aus: Wer sich fürchtet und Angst hat, kehre um und enteile vom Berg Gilead! Darauf kehrten von den Leuten zweiundzwanzigtausend um, während zehntausend übrig blieben.
But the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.”
Doch der HERR sagte zu Gideon: Die Leute sind immer noch zu zahlreich. Führ sie hinab ans Wasser; dort will ich sie für dich mustern. Von wem ich zu dir sagen werde: Er soll mit dir gehen!, der soll mit dir gehen und jeder, von dem ich zu dir sagen werde: Dieser soll nicht mit dir gehen!, der soll nicht gehen.
So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.”
Gideon führte die Leute zum Wasser hinab und der HERR sagte zu ihm: Stell alle, die das Wasser mit der Zunge auflecken, wie es ein Hund tut, auf einen besonderen Platz, und ebenso alle, die sich zum Trinken hinknien.
And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water.
Die Zahl derer, die aufleckten — mit der Hand zum Mund — , betrug dreihundert Mann. Alle übrigen Leute aber knieten sich hin, um das Wasser zu trinken.
Der HERR sagte zu Gideon: Durch die dreihundert Mann, die aufgeleckt haben, will ich euch retten und Midian in deine Hand geben. Alle übrigen Leute sollen jeder an seinen Ort gehen.
So the people took provisions and their trumpets in their hands. And he sent away all the rest of Israel, every man to his tent, and retained those three hundred men. Now the camp of Midian was below him in the valley.
Sie nahmen die Verpflegung der Leute und ihre Widderhörner mit. Gideon entließ alle Israeliten, jeden zu seinen Zelten. Nur die dreihundert Mann behielt er bei sich. Das Lager Midians lag unterhalb von ihm in der Ebene.
It happened on the same night that the Lord said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.
Und es geschah in jener Nacht: Der HERR sagte zu ihm: Auf, geh in das Lager hinab; denn ich habe es in deine Hand gegeben.
But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant,
Wenn du dich aber davor fürchtest hinabzusteigen, dann geh mit deinem Diener Pura bis zum Lager hinab.
Du wirst hören, was man dort redet. Dann werden deine Hände stark werden und du wirst in das Lager hinabziehen. Gideon ging also mit seinem Diener Pura bis unmittelbar an die Krieger im Lager heran.
Midian und Amalek und die Leute des Ostens waren in die Ebene eingefallen, zahlreich wie die Heuschrecken, und ihre Kamele waren zahllos wie der Sand am Ufer des Meeres.
And when Gideon had come, there was a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, “I have had a dream: To my surprise, a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed.”
Als Gideon ankam, erzählte gerade einer dem andern einen Traum. Er sagte: Hör zu, ich hatte einen Traum: Siehe, ein Laib Gerstenbrot rollte im Lager Midians hin und her, gelangte bis zum Zelt und stieß dagegen, sodass es umfiel. Er stülpte es nach oben um und so lag das Zelt da.
Then his companion answered and said, “This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel! Into his hand God has delivered Midian and the whole camp.”
Der andere antwortete: Das bedeutet nichts anderes als das Schwert des Israeliten Gideon, des Sohnes des Joasch. Gott hat Midian und das ganze Lager in seine Hand gegeben.
And so it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel, and said, “Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.”
Als Gideon die Erzählung von dem Traum und seine Deutung hörte, warf er sich nieder und betete. Dann kehrte er ins Lager Israels zurück und rief: Auf! Der HERR hat das Lager Midians in eure Hand gegeben.
Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.
Gideon teilte die dreihundert Mann in drei Abteilungen und gab allen Männern Widderhörner und leere Krüge in die Hand; in den Krügen waren Fackeln.
And he said to them, “Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do:
Er sagte zu ihnen: Seht auf mich und macht alles ebenso wie ich! Wenn ich an den Rand des Lagers komme, so sollt, wie ich es mache, auch ihr machen.
When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say, ‘The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!’ ”
Wenn ich und alle, die bei mir sind, das Widderhorn blasen, dann müsst auch ihr rings um das ganze Lager eure Hörner blasen und rufen: Für den HERRN und Gideon!
So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outpost of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just as they had posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers that were in their hands.
Gideon und die hundert Mann, die bei ihm waren, gelangten zu Beginn der mittleren Nachtwache an den Rand des Lagers; man hatte gerade die Wachen aufgestellt. Sie bliesen das Widderhorn und zerschlugen die Krüge, die sie in der Hand hatten.
Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers — they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing — and they cried, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!”
Es bliesen also die drei Abteilungen die Hörner, zerschlugen die Krüge, ergriffen mit der linken Hand die Fackeln, während sie in der rechten Hand die Widderhörner hielten, um zu blasen, und schrien: Schwert für den HERRN und Gideon!
And every man stood in his place all around the camp; and the whole army ran and cried out and fled.
Dabei blieben sie rings um das Lager stehen, jeder an dem Platz, wo er gerade war. Im Lager liefen alle durcheinander, schrien und flohen.
Als die dreihundert Männer ihre Hörner bliesen, richtete der HERR im ganzen Lager das Schwert des einen gegen den andern. Alle im Lager flohen bis nach Bet-Schitta, Zereda, Sefat-Abel-Mehola und Tabbat.
And the men of Israel gathered together from Naphtali, Asher, and all Manasseh, and pursued the Midianites.
Nun wurden die Israeliten aus Naftali, Ascher und ganz Manasse aufgeboten und sie jagten den Midianitern nach.
Then Gideon sent messengers throughout all the mountains of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against the Midianites, and seize from them the watering places as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan.” Then all the men of Ephraim gathered together and seized the watering places as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan.
Außerdem schickte Gideon Boten im ganzen Bergland von Efraim umher und ließ sagen: Zieht hinab gegen Midian und schneidet ihnen das Wasser bis nach Bet-Bara und den Jordan ab! So wurden alle Männer Efraims zusammengerufen und sie besetzten die Wasserstellen bis Bet-Bara und den Jordanübergang.
And they captured two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb. They pursued Midian and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side of the Jordan.
Sie nahmen auch die zwei Midianiterfürsten Oreb, Rabe, und Seeb, Wolf, gefangen. Oreb töteten sie am Rabenfelsen und Seeb töteten sie an der Wolfskelter; dann setzten sie die Verfolgung Midians fort. Die Köpfe Orebs und Seebs aber brachten sie zu Gideon über den Jordan.
