Elijah Fed by Ravens
Now Elijah, who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab, “As surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives — the God I serve — there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!”

Elija aus Tischbe in Gilead sprach zu Ahab: So wahr der HERR, der Gott Israels, lebt, in dessen Dienst ich stehe: in diesen Jahren sollen weder Tau noch Regen fallen, es sei denn auf mein Wort hin.
“Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it enters the Jordan River.
Geh weg von hier, wende dich nach Osten und verbirg dich am Bach Kerit östlich des Jordan!
Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.”
Aus dem Bach sollst du trinken und den Raben habe ich befohlen, dass sie dich dort ernähren.
So Elijah did as the LORD told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan.
Elija ging weg und tat, was der HERR befohlen hatte; er begab sich zum Bach Kerit östlich des Jordan und ließ sich dort nieder.
The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook.
Die Raben brachten ihm Brot und Fleisch am Morgen und ebenso Brot und Fleisch am Abend und er trank aus dem Bach.
But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land.
Nach einiger Zeit aber vertrocknete der Bach; denn es fiel kein Regen im Land.
“Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.”
Mach dich auf und geh nach Sarepta, das zu Sidon gehört, und bleib dort! Ich habe dort einer Witwe befohlen, dich zu versorgen.
So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?”
Er machte sich auf und ging nach Sarepta. Als er an das Stadttor kam, traf er dort eine Witwe, die Holz auflas. Er bat sie: Bring mir in einem Gefäß ein wenig Wasser zum Trinken!
As she was going to get it, he called to her, “Bring me a bite of bread, too.”
Als sie wegging, um es zu holen, rief er ihr nach: Bring mir auch einen Bissen Brot mit!
But she said, “I swear by the LORD your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.”
Doch sie sagte: So wahr der HERR, dein Gott, lebt: Ich habe nichts mehr vorrätig als eine Handvoll Mehl im Topf und ein wenig Öl im Krug. Ich lese hier ein paar Stücke Holz auf und gehe dann heim, um für mich und meinen Sohn etwas zuzubereiten. Das wollen wir noch essen und dann sterben.
But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son.
Elija entgegnete ihr: Fürchte dich nicht! Geh heim und tu, was du gesagt hast! Nur mache zuerst für mich ein kleines Gebäck und bring es zu mir heraus! Danach kannst du für dich und deinen Sohn etwas zubereiten;
For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the LORD sends rain and the crops grow again!”
denn so spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Der Mehltopf wird nicht leer werden und der Ölkrug nicht versiegen bis zu dem Tag, an dem der HERR wieder Regen auf den Erdboden sendet.
So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days.
Sie ging und tat, was Elija gesagt hatte. So hatte sie mit ihm und ihrem Haus viele Tage zu essen.
There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as the LORD had promised through Elijah.
Der Mehltopf wurde nicht leer und der Ölkrug versiegte nicht, wie der HERR durch Elija versprochen hatte.
Some time later the woman’s son became sick. He grew worse and worse, and finally he died.
Nach einiger Zeit erkrankte der Sohn der Frau, der das Haus gehörte. Die Krankheit verschlimmerte sich so, dass zuletzt kein Atem mehr in ihm war.
Then she said to Elijah, “O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?”
Da sagte sie zu Elija: Was habe ich mit dir zu schaffen, Mann Gottes? Du bist nur zu mir gekommen, um an meine Sünde zu erinnern und meinem Sohn den Tod zu bringen.
But Elijah replied, “Give me your son.” And he took the child’s body from her arms, carried him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed.
Er antwortete ihr: Gib mir deinen Sohn! Und er nahm ihn von ihrem Schoß, trug ihn in das Obergemach hinauf, in dem er wohnte, und legte ihn auf sein Bett.
Then Elijah cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?”
Dann rief er zum HERRN und sagte: HERR, mein Gott, willst du denn auch über die Witwe, in deren Haus ich wohne, Unheil bringen und ihren Sohn sterben lassen?
And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, please let this child’s life return to him.”
Hierauf streckte er sich dreimal über den Knaben hin, rief zum HERRN und flehte: HERR, mein Gott, es kehre doch Leben in diesen Knaben zurück!
The LORD heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived!
Der HERR erhörte das Gebet Elijas. Das Leben kehrte in den Knaben zurück und er lebte wieder auf.
Then Elijah brought him down from the upper room and gave him to his mother. “Look!” he said. “Your son is alive!”
Elija nahm ihn, brachte ihn vom Obergemach in das Haus hinab und gab ihn seiner Mutter zurück mit den Worten: Sieh, dein Sohn lebt.
