Da sprach der HERR zum Satan: Woher kommst du? Der Satan antwortete dem HERRN: Die Erde habe ich durchstreift, hin und her.
Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless — a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you urged me to harm him without cause.”
Der HERR sprach zum Satan: Hast du auf meinen Knecht Ijob geachtet? Seinesgleichen gibt es nicht auf der Erde: ein Mann untadelig und rechtschaffen; er fürchtet Gott und meidet das Böse. Noch immer hält er fest an seiner Frömmigkeit, obwohl du mich gegen ihn aufgereizt hast, ihn ohne Grund zu verderben.
Satan replied to the LORD, “Skin for skin! A man will give up everything he has to save his life.
Der Satan antwortete dem HERRN und sagte: Haut um Haut! Alles, was der Mensch besitzt, gibt er hin für sein Leben.
But reach out and take away his health, and he will surely curse you to your face!”
Doch streck deine Hand aus und rühr an sein Gebein und Fleisch; wahrhaftig, er wird dich ins Angesicht segnen.
“All right, do with him as you please,” the LORD said to Satan. “But spare his life.”
Da sprach der HERR zum Satan: Gut, er ist in deiner Hand. Nur schone sein Leben!
So Satan left the LORD’s presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot.
Der Satan ging weg vom Angesicht Gottes und schlug Ijob mit bösartigem Geschwür von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel.
Job scraped his skin with a piece of broken pottery as he sat among the ashes.
Da nahm er sich eine Tonscherbe, um sich damit zu schaben, während er mitten in der Asche saß.
His wife said to him, “Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die.”
Seine Frau sagte zu ihm: Hältst du immer noch fest an deiner Frömmigkeit? Segne Gott und stirb!
But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.
Er aber sprach zu ihr: Wie eine Törin redet, so redest du. Nehmen wir das Gute an von Gott, sollen wir dann nicht auch das Böse annehmen? Bei alldem sündigte Ijob nicht mit seinen Lippen.
Job’s Three Friends Share His Anguish
When three of Job’s friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him. Their names were Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite.
Die drei Freunde Ijobs hörten von all dem Bösen, das über ihn gekommen war. Und sie kamen, jeder aus seiner Heimat: Elifas aus Teman, Bildad aus Schuach und Zofar aus Naama. Sie vereinbarten hinzugehen, um ihm ihre Teilnahme zu bezeigen und um ihn zu trösten.
When they saw Job from a distance, they scarcely recognized him. Wailing loudly, they tore their robes and threw dust into the air over their heads to show their grief.
