Judah’s Broken Covenant
The LORD gave another message to Jeremiah. He said,

“Remind the people of Judah and Jerusalem about the terms of my covenant with them.
Hört die Worte dieses Bundes! Du sollst sie den Leuten von Juda und den Einwohnern Jerusalems verkünden.
Say to them, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Cursed is anyone who does not obey the terms of my covenant!
Du sollst ihnen sagen: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Verflucht der Mensch, der nicht hört auf die Worte dieses Bundes,
For I said to your ancestors when I brought them out of the iron-smelting furnace of Egypt, “If you obey me and do whatever I command you, then you will be my people, and I will be your God.”
die ich euren Vätern aufgetragen habe am Tag, als ich sie aus dem Land Ägypten herausführte, aus dem Schmelzofen des Eisens: Hört auf meine Stimme und handelt in allem nach meinen Geboten; dann werdet ihr mir Volk sein und ich will euch Gott sein.
I said this so I could keep my promise to your ancestors to give you a land flowing with milk and honey — the land you live in today.’”
Then I replied, “Amen, LORD! May it be so.”

Then the LORD said, “Broadcast this message in the streets of Jerusalem. Go from town to town throughout the land and say, ‘Remember the ancient covenant, and do everything it requires.
Darauf sprach der HERR zu mir: Verkünde alle diese Worte laut in den Städten Judas und auf den Straßen Jerusalems: Hört die Worte dieses Bundes und handelt danach!
For I solemnly warned your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, “Obey me!” I have repeated this warning over and over to this day,
Denn ich habe eure Väter eindringlich ermahnt am Tag, als ich sie aus dem Land Ägypten heraufführte, und bis zum heutigen Tag habe ich sie ermahnt: Hört auf meine Stimme!
but your ancestors did not listen or even pay attention. Instead, they stubbornly followed their own evil desires. And because they refused to obey, I brought upon them all the curses described in this covenant.’”
Sie aber haben nicht gehört und mir ihr Ohr nicht zugeneigt; ein jeder ging in der Verstocktheit seines bösen Herzens. Und ich brachte über sie alle Drohworte dieses Bundes, den zu halten ich ihnen geboten habe, den sie aber nicht gehalten haben.
Again the LORD spoke to me and said, “I have discovered a conspiracy against me among the people of Judah and Jerusalem.
Der HERR sagte zu mir: Es gibt eine Verschwörung unter den Leuten von Juda und den Einwohnern Jerusalems.
They have returned to the sins of their ancestors. They have refused to listen to me and are worshiping other gods. Israel and Judah have both broken the covenant I made with their ancestors.
Sie sind zurückgekehrt zu den Sünden ihrer Vorväter, die sich weigerten, meinen Worten zu gehorchen. Auch sie sind fremden Göttern nachgelaufen, um ihnen zu dienen. Das Haus Israel und das Haus Juda haben meinen Bund gebrochen, den ich mit ihren Vätern geschlossen habe.
Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I am going to bring calamity upon them, and they will not escape. Though they beg for mercy, I will not listen to their cries.
Darum — so spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich bringe Unheil über sie, dem sie nicht entgehen können. Schreien sie dann zu mir, so werde ich nicht auf sie hören.
Then the people of Judah and Jerusalem will pray to their idols and burn incense before them. But the idols will not save them when disaster strikes!
Und die Städte Judas und die Einwohner Jerusalems werden hingehen und zu den Göttern schreien, denen sie Räucheropfer darbringen; sie aber werden ihnen zur Zeit der Not gewiss nicht helfen.
Look now, people of Judah; you have as many gods as you have towns. You have as many altars of shame — altars for burning incense to your god Baal — as there are streets in Jerusalem.
Denn so zahlreich wie deine Städte sind auch deine Götter, Juda, geworden und so zahlreich wie die Straßen Jerusalems habt ihr der Schande Altäre errichtet, Altäre, um dem Baal zu räuchern.
“Pray no more for these people, Jeremiah. Do not weep or pray for them, for I will not listen to them when they cry out to me in distress.
Du aber bete nicht für dieses Volk! Erhebe nicht für sie Flehen oder Bitten! Denn ich höre nicht in der Zeit, wenn sie zu mir rufen wegen ihrer Not.
“What right do my beloved people have to come to my Temple,
when they have done so many immoral things?
Can their vows and sacrifices prevent their destruction?
They actually rejoice in doing evil!

Was hat mein Liebling in meinem Haus zu suchen, wenn er nur schlimme Pläne ausführt? Können Gelübde und Opferfleisch das Unheil von dir fernhalten? Dann könntest du jubeln.
I, the LORD, once called them a thriving olive tree,
beautiful to see and full of good fruit.
But now I have sent the fury of their enemies
to burn them with fire,
leaving them charred and broken.

Einen üppigen Ölbaum von schöner Gestalt hatte der HERR dich genannt. Wenn der gewaltige Lärm ertönt, legt er Feuer an ihn, sodass seine Zweige hässlich werden.
“I, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, who planted this olive tree, have ordered it destroyed. For the people of Israel and Judah have done evil, arousing my anger by burning incense to Baal.”
Der HERR der Heerscharen, der dich pflanzte, hat Unheil über dich verhängt wegen der Bosheit des Hauses Israel und des Hauses Juda, die sie getan haben; dem Baal räucherten sie, um mich zu erzürnen.
A Plot against Jeremiah
Then the LORD told me about the plots my enemies were making against me.
Der HERR ließ es mich wissen und so wusste ich es; damals ließest du mich ihr Treiben durchschauen.
I was like a lamb being led to the slaughter. I had no idea that they were planning to kill me! “Let’s destroy this man and all his words,” they said. “Let’s cut him down, so his name will be forgotten forever.”
Ich aber war wie ein zutrauliches Lamm, das zum Schlachten geführt wird, und ahnte nicht, dass sie gegen mich Böses planten: Wir wollen den Baum im Saft verderben; wir wollen ihn ausrotten aus dem Land der Lebenden, sodass seines Namens nicht mehr gedacht wird.
O LORD of Heaven’s Armies,
you make righteous judgments,
and you examine the deepest thoughts and secrets.
Let me see your vengeance against them,
for I have committed my cause to you.

Aber der HERR der Heerscharen richtet gerecht, er prüft Nieren und Herz. Ich werde deine Vergeltung an ihnen sehen, denn dir habe ich meine Sache anvertraut.
This is what the LORD says about the men of Anathoth who wanted me dead. They had said, “We will kill you if you do not stop prophesying in the LORD’s name.”
Darum — so spricht der HERR gegen die Leute von Anatot, die mir nach dem Leben trachten und sagen: Du darfst nicht als Prophet im Namen des HERRN auftreten, wenn du nicht durch unsere Hand sterben willst.
So this is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says about them: “I will punish them! Their young men will die in battle, and their boys and girls will starve to death.
Darum — so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Seht, ich werde sie heimsuchen. Die jungen Männer sterben durchs Schwert, ihre Söhne und Töchter sterben vor Hunger.
