I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other believers who have never met me personally.
Ich will euch nämlich wissen lassen, was für einen schweren Kampf ich für euch und die Gläubigen in Laodizea zu bestehen habe, auch für alle anderen, die mich von Angesicht nie gesehen haben.
I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.
Dadurch sollen sie getröstet werden, verbunden in der Liebe, um die tiefe und reiche Einsicht zu erlangen und das Geheimnis Gottes zu erkennen, das Christus ist.
In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
In ihm sind alle Schätze der Weisheit und Erkenntnis verborgen.
I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments.
Das sage ich, damit euch niemand durch Überredungskünste täuscht.
For though I am far away from you, my heart is with you. And I rejoice that you are living as you should and that your faith in Christ is strong.
Denn wenn ich auch leiblich fern von euch bin, im Geist bin ich doch bei euch. Mit Freude sehe ich, wie fest und geordnet euer Glaube an Christus ist.
Freedom from Rules and New Life in Christ
And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.
Ihr habt also Christus Jesus als Herrn angenommen. Darum führt auch, wie es ihm entspricht, euren Lebenswandel!
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Bleibt in ihm verwurzelt und auf ihn gegründet, gefestigt durch den Glauben, in dem ihr unterrichtet wurdet! Seid voller Dankbarkeit!
Gebt Acht, dass euch niemand mit seiner Philosophie und leerem Trug einfängt, die sich nur auf menschliche Überlieferung stützen und sich auf die Elementarmächte der Welt berufen, nicht auf Christus!
Denn in ihm wohnt die ganze Fülle der Gottheit leibhaftig.
So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
Durch ihn seid auch ihr davon erfüllt; denn er ist das Haupt aller Mächte und Gewalten.
In ihm habt ihr eine Beschneidung empfangen, die man nicht mit Händen vornimmt, nämlich die Beschneidung, die Christus gegeben hat. Wer sie empfängt, sagt sich los von seinem vergänglichen Leib.
For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
Mit Christus wurdet ihr in der Taufe begraben, mit ihm auch auferweckt, durch den Glauben an die Kraft Gottes, der ihn von den Toten auferweckt hat.
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.
Ihr wart tot infolge eurer Sünden und euer Fleisch war unbeschnitten; Gott aber hat euch mit Christus zusammen lebendig gemacht und uns alle Sünden vergeben.
He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
Er hat den Schuldschein, der gegen uns sprach, durchgestrichen und seine Forderungen, die uns anklagten, aufgehoben. Er hat ihn dadurch getilgt, dass er ihn an das Kreuz geheftet hat.
Die Fürsten und Gewalten hat er entwaffnet und öffentlich zur Schau gestellt; durch Christus hat Gott über sie triumphiert.
So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths.
Darum soll euch niemand verurteilen wegen Speise und Trank oder wegen eines Festes, ob Neumond oder Sabbat.
For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.
Das alles ist nur ein Schatten von dem, was kommen wird, die Wirklichkeit aber ist Christus.
Niemand soll euch den Kampfpreis absprechen, der sich gefällt in Unterwürfigkeit und Verehrung, die er den Engeln erweist, der als Eingeweihter mit Visionen prahlt und sich ohne Grund nach weltlicher Art wichtig macht.
and they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it.
Er hält sich nicht an das Haupt, von dem aus der ganze Leib durch Gelenke und Bänder versorgt und zusammengehalten wird und durch Gottes Wirken wächst.
You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as,
Wenn ihr mit Christus den Elementarmächten der Welt gestorben seid, warum lasst ihr euch dann, als würdet ihr noch in der Welt leben, vorschreiben:
“Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”?
Berühre das nicht, iss das nicht, fass das nicht an!
Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them.
Das alles wird verbraucht und dadurch vernichtet. Menschliche Satzungen und Lehren sind es.
These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.
Man sagt zwar, in ihnen liege Weisheit, es sei freiwillige Frömmigkeit und Unterwürfigkeit, den Leib nicht zu schonen. Doch das bringt keine Ehre ein, sondern dient nur zur Befriedigung irdischer Eitelkeit.
