Memorials to the Jordan Crossing
When all the people had crossed the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,

Als das ganze Volk den Jordan durchschritten hatte, sagte der HERR zu Josua:
“Now choose twelve men, one from each tribe.
Wählt aus dem Volk zwölf Männer aus, aus jedem Stamm einen,
Tell them, ‘Take twelve stones from the very place where the priests are standing in the middle of the Jordan. Carry them out and pile them up at the place where you will camp tonight.’”
und befehlt ihnen: Hebt euch hier, an der Stelle mitten im Jordan, wo die Priester fest und sicher standen, zwölf Steine auf, nehmt sie mit hinüber und legt sie auf dem Lagerplatz nieder, wo ihr die nächste Nacht verbringt!
So Joshua called together the twelve men he had chosen — one from each of the tribes of Israel.
Da rief Josua die zwölf Männer, die er aus den Israeliten bestimmt hatte, aus jedem Stamm einen,
He told them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the LORD your God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder — twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel.
und sagte zu ihnen: Geht vor der Lade des HERRN, eures Gottes, her bis zur Mitte des Jordan; dort soll jeder von euch einen Stein auf seine Schulter heben, so viele Steine, wie es Stämme der Israeliten gibt.
We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’
Sie sollen unter euch ein Zeichen sein. Wenn euch eure Söhne morgen fragen: Was bedeuten diese Steine für euch?,
Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.”
dann antwortet ihnen: Die Fluten des Jordan waren vor der Bundeslade des HERRN wie abgeschnitten; als sie durch den Jordan zog, waren die Fluten des Jordan abgeschnitten. So sind diese Steine ein ewiges Erinnerungszeichen für die Israeliten.
So the men did as Joshua had commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan River, one for each tribe, just as the LORD had told Joshua. They carried them to the place where they camped for the night and constructed the memorial there.
Die Israeliten taten, was Josua befohlen hatte, und nahmen zwölf Steine mitten aus dem Jordan, so viele, wie es Stämme der Israeliten gab, wie es der HERR dem Josua befohlen hatte. Sie nahmen sie mit hinüber zu ihrem Lagerplatz und stellten sie dort auf.
Joshua also set up another pile of twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, at the place where the priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant were standing. And they are there to this day.
Und in der Mitte des Jordan richtete Josua zwölf Steine auf, dort, wo die Füße der Priester gestanden hatten, die die Bundeslade trugen; sie stehen dort bis zum heutigen Tag.
The priests who were carrying the Ark stood in the middle of the river until all of the LORD’s commands that Moses had given to Joshua were carried out. Meanwhile, the people hurried across the riverbed.
Die Priester aber, die die Lade trugen, blieben mitten im Jordan stehen, bis alles geschehen war, was der HERR durch Josua dem Volk befohlen hatte, ganz so, wie Mose dem Josua befohlen hatte, und das Volk beeilte sich und zog hinüber.
And when everyone was safely on the other side, the priests crossed over with the Ark of the LORD as the people watched.
Als das ganze Volk vollständig hinübergezogen war, zog auch die Lade des HERRN hinüber und die Priester an der Spitze des Volkes.
The armed warriors from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh led the Israelites across the Jordan, just as Moses had directed.
Die Rubeniter, die Gaditer und der halbe Stamm Manasse zogen kampfbereit vor den Israeliten her, wie es ihnen Mose befohlen hatte.
These armed men — about 40,000 strong — were ready for battle, and the LORD was with them as they crossed over to the plains of Jericho.
Es waren etwa vierzigtausend bewaffnete Männer, die vor den Augen des HERRN zum Kampf in die Steppen von Jericho zogen.
That day the LORD made Joshua a great leader in the eyes of all the Israelites, and for the rest of his life they revered him as much as they had revered Moses.
An jenem Tag machte der HERR den Josua in den Augen ganz Israels groß und man hatte Ehrfurcht vor ihm, wie man vor Mose zeit seines Lebens Ehrfurcht hatte.
Befiehl den Priestern, die die Lade des Bundeszeugnisses tragen, aus dem Jordan heraufzusteigen!
As soon as the priests carrying the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant came up out of the riverbed and their feet were on high ground, the water of the Jordan returned and overflowed its banks as before.
Als nun die Priester, die die Bundeslade des HERRN trugen, aus der Mitte des Jordan heraufstiegen und ihre Fußsohlen das Ufer berührten, da kehrte das Wasser des Jordan an seinen Ort zurück und trat wie gestern und vorgestern wieder über alle Ufer.
Das Volk zog am zehnten Tag des ersten Monats durch den Jordan und schlug in Gilgal, am Ostrand des Gebietes von Jericho, sein Lager auf.
It was there at Gilgal that Joshua piled up the twelve stones taken from the Jordan River.
In Gilgal stellte Josua die zwölf Steine auf, die man aus dem Jordan mitgenommen hatte.
Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean?’
Er sagte zu den Israeliten: Wenn eure Söhne morgen ihre Väter fragen: Was bedeuten diese Steine?,
Then you can tell them, ‘This is where the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’
dann sollt ihr sie belehren: Hier hat Israel trockenen Fußes den Jordan durchschritten;
denn der HERR, euer Gott, hat das Wasser des Jordan vor euren Augen austrocknen lassen, bis ihr hindurchgezogen wart, genauso wie es der HERR, euer Gott, mit dem Roten Meer machte, das er vor unseren Augen austrocknen ließ, bis wir hindurchgezogen waren.
