    Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

    Похваляю ж вас, браття, що ви все моє пам'ятаєте, і захо́вуєте так переда́ння, як я вам передав.

    Head Coverings

    Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you.

    Хо́чу ж я, щоб ви знали, що всякому чоловікові голова — Христос, а жінці голова — чоловік, голова ж Христові — Бог.

    But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

    Кожен чоловік, що молиться чи пророкує з головою покритою, — осоромлює він свою го́лову.

    Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.
  • 5
    І кожна жінка, що молиться чи пророкує з головою відкритою, осоромлює тим свою го́лову, бо це є те саме, як була́ б вона виголена.

    But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.

    Бо коли жінка не покривається, хай стрижеться вона; коли ж жінці сором стри́гтися чи голитися, нехай покривається!

    For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.

    Отож, чоловік покривати голови не повинен, бо він образ і слава Бога, а жінка — чоловікові слава.

    For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.

    For man is not from woman, but woman from man.

    не ство́рений бо чоловік ради жінки, але жінка ради чоловіка.

    Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man.

    Тому жінка повина мати на голові знака вла́ди над нею, ради анголів.

    For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

    Одначе в Господі ані чоловік без жінки, ані жінка без чоловіка.

    Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord.

    Бо як жінка від чоловіка, так і чоловік через жінку; а все — від Бога.

    For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God.

    Поміркуйте самі між собою, чи присто́йне воно, щоб жінка молилася Богові непокрита?

    Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

    Чи ж природа сама вас не вчить, що коли чоловік запускає воло́сся, то безчестя для нього?

    Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?
  • 15
    Коли ж жінка ко́су запускає, — це слава для неї, бо замість покрива́ла да́на коса́ їй.

    But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given [a]to her for a covering.
  • 16
    Коли ж хто сперечатися хоче, — ми такого звича́ю не маємо, ані Церкви́ Божі.

    But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

    Пропонуючи це вам, я не хвалю́, що збираєтесь ви не на ліпше, а на гірше.

    Conduct at the Lord’s Supper

    Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse.

    Бо найперше, я чую, що як схо́дитесь ви на збо́ри, то між вами бувають поді́лення, у що почасти я й вірю.

    For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

    Бо мусять між вами й поділи бути, щоб відкрились між вами й досвідчені.

    For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be [b]recognized among you.
  • 20
    А далі, коли ви збираєтесь ра́зом, то не на те, щоб їсти Господню Вече́рю.

    Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper.

    Бо кожен спішить з'їсти власну вече́рю, і один голодує, а другий впивається.

    For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry and another is drunk.
  • 22
    Хіба ж ви не маєте хат, щоб їсти та пити? Чи ви зневажаєте Божу Церкву, і осоромлюєте немаю́чих? Що маю сказати вам? Чи за це похвалю́ вас? Не похвалю́!

    What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame [c]those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.

    Бо прийняв я від Господа, що й вам передав, що Господь Ісус ночі тієї, як ви́даний був, узяв хліб,

    Institution of the Lord’s Supper

    For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;

    подяку віддав, і переломив, і сказав: „Прийміть, споживайте, це тіло Моє, що за вас лома́ється. Це робіть на спомин про Мене!“

    and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, [d]“Take, eat; this is My body which is [e]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

    Так само і чашу взяв Він по Вечері й сказав: „Ця чаша — Нови́й Заповіт у Моїй крові. Це робіть, коли тільки бу́дете пити, на спомин про Мене!“

    In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

    Бо кожного ра́зу, як будете їсти цей хліб та чашу цю пити, — смерть Господню звіщаєте, аж доки Він при́йде.

    For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
  • 27
    Тому то, хто їстиме хліб цей чи питиме чашу Господню негідно, — буде винний супроти тіла та крови Господньої!

    Examine Yourself

    Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and [f]blood of the Lord.

    Нехай же люди́на випробо́вує себе, і так нехай хліб їсть і з чаші хай п'є.

    But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

    Бо хто їсть і п'є негі́дно, не розважаючи про тіло, той суд собі їсть і п'є!

    For he who eats and drinks [g]in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the [h]Lord’s body.

    Через це поміж вами багато недужих та хворих, і багато-хто засну́ли.

    For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many [i]sleep.

    Бо коли б ми самі судили себе, то засу́джені ми не були́ б.

    For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.
  • 32
    Та засу́джені від Господа, караємося, щоб нас не засу́джено з світом.

    But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

    Ось тому́, мої браття, схо́дячись на поживу, чека́йте один о́дного.

    Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

    А коли хто голодний, нехай вдома він їсть, щоб не схо́дилися ви на о́суд. А про інше, як прийду́, заряджу́.

    But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And the rest I will set in order when I come.
