Jabez war angesehener als seine Brüder. Seine Mutter hatte ihn Jabez genannt; denn sie sagte: Ich habe ihn unter Beschwerden geboren.
Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez saying, “Because I bore him with pain.”
Doch Jabez rief zum Gott Israels und sprach: Möchtest du mich segnen und mein Gebiet erweitern. Möchte deine Hand mit mir sein, dass du mich freimachst von Unheil und ich ohne Beschwerden bleibe. Und Gott erfüllte seine Bitte.
Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested.

Meonothai became the father of Ophrah, and Seraiah became the father of Joab the father of Ge-harashim, for they were craftsmen.

The sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh were Iru, Elah and Naam; and the son of Elah was Kenaz.

Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah;
Diese namentlich Genannten waren führende Männer in ihren Sippenverbänden. Ihre Großfamilien hatten sich stark vermehrt.
these mentioned by name were leaders in their families; and their fathers’ houses increased greatly.
Daher zogen sie, um Weideplätze für ihre Schafe und Ziegen zu suchen, zum Osten des Tals, wo der Weg nach Gedor abzweigt.
They went to the entrance of Gedor, even to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.

So kamen diese mit Namen Aufgezeichneten in den Tagen des Königs Hiskija von Juda, machten einen Anschlag auf ihre Zelte und auf die Mëuniter, die sich dort fanden, und blieben bis zum heutigen Tag. Sie vollzogen an ihnen den Bann und ließen sich an ihrer Stelle nieder; denn es gab dort Weideplätze für ihre Schafe und Ziegen.
These, recorded by name, came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and attacked their tents and the Meunites who were found there, and destroyed them utterly to this day, and lived in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks.
