The Dedication of the Temple

Die Priester konnten das Haus des HERRN nicht betreten, da die Herrlichkeit des HERRN es erfüllte.
The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it.
Alle Israeliten sahen, wie das Feuer herabfiel und wie die Herrlichkeit des HERRN über dem Tempel erschien. Sie warfen sich mit dem Gesicht zur Erde auf das Steinpflaster nieder, beteten den HERRN an und priesen ihn: Denn er ist gütig, denn seine Huld währt ewig.
When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying,
“He is good;
his love endures forever.”

Dann brachten der König und das ganze Volk vor dem HERRN Opfer dar.
Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the Lord.
Zweiundzwanzigtausend Rinder und hundertzwanzigtausend Schafe ließ König Salomo zum Opfer schlachten. So vollzogen der König und das ganze Volk die Weihe des Hauses Gottes.
And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand head of cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the people dedicated the temple of God.
Die Priester taten ihren Dienst und die Leviten spielten die Instrumente für die Lieder des HERRN. König David hatte diese Geräte anfertigen lassen, um den HERRN zu preisen: Denn seine Huld währt ewig. Während die Leviten den Lobpreis Davids vortrugen, bliesen die Priester ihnen gegenüber die Trompeten und ganz Israel nahm daran teil.
The priests took their positions, as did the Levites with the Lord’s musical instruments, which King David had made for praising the Lord and which were used when he gave thanks, saying, “His love endures forever.” Opposite the Levites, the priests blew their trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
Salomo weihte die Mitte des Hofes, der vor dem Haus des HERRN war, als er dort die Brandopfer und die Fettstücke der Heilsopfer darbrachte. Der bronzene Altar, den Salomo hatte anfertigen lassen, konnte nämlich das Brandopfer, das Speiseopfer und die Fettstücke nicht fassen.
Solomon consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the Lord, and there he offered burnt offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar he had made could not hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat portions.
Salomo feierte damals mit ganz Israel, das von Lebo-Hamat bis zum Grenzbach Ägyptens zu einer sehr großen Versammlung erschienen war, auch das Fest sieben Tage lang.
So Solomon observed the festival at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him — a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt.
Am achten Tag hielten sie eine Festversammlung. Die Weihe des Altars hatten sie nämlich sieben Tage lang gefeiert und auch das Fest dauerte sieben Tage.
On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had celebrated the dedication of the altar for seven days and the festival for seven days more.
Am dreiundzwanzigsten Tag des siebten Monats entließ der König das Volk zu seinen Zelten. Sie waren voll Freude und frohen Mutes über das Gute, das der HERR an David, an Salomo und an seinem Volk Israel getan hatte.
On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the Lord had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel.
Nachdem Salomo das Haus des HERRN und den königlichen Palast vollendet und alle seine Pläne für das Haus des HERRN und für seinen Palast verwirklicht hatte,

erschien ihm der HERR in der Nacht und sprach zu ihm: Ich habe dein Gebet gehört und diesen Ort als Opferstätte für mich erwählt.
the Lord appeared to him at night and said:
“I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices.

Wenn ich den Himmel verschließe und kein Regen fällt oder wenn ich der Heuschrecke gebiete, das Land kahl zu fressen, wenn ich die Pest in mein Volk sende
“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people,
und mein Volk, über das mein Name ausgerufen ist, sich demütigt und betet, mich sucht und von seinen schlechten Wegen umkehrt, dann höre ich es im Himmel. Ich verzeihe seine Sünde und bringe seinem Land Heilung.
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Meine Augen sollen jetzt für das Gebet an diesem Ort offen sein und meine Ohren sollen darauf achten.
Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
Ich habe jetzt dieses Haus erwählt und geheiligt, damit mein Name ewig hier sei. Meine Augen und mein Herz werden allezeit hier weilen.
I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.
Wenn du deinen Weg vor mir gehst, wie ihn dein Vater David gegangen ist, und wenn du alles tust, was ich dir befohlen habe, wenn du meine Gesetze und Rechtsentscheide bewahrst,
“As for you, if you walk before me faithfully as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees and laws,
dann werde ich deinen Königsthron bestehen lassen, wie ich es deinem Vater David zugesichert habe, zu dem ich gesagt habe: Es soll dir nie an einem Herrscher über Israel fehlen.
I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to rule over Israel.’
Doch wenn ihr euch von mir abwendet und meine Satzungen und Gebote, die ich euch gegeben habe, übertretet, wenn ihr euch anschickt, andere Götter zu verehren und euch vor ihnen niederzuwerfen,
dann werde ich euch aus meinem Land vertreiben, das ich euch gegeben habe. Dieses Haus, das ich meinem Namen geweiht habe, werde ich aus meinem Angesicht wegschaffen und zum Gespött und zum Hohn unter allen Völkern machen.
then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.
Jeder, der an diesem Haus, das so erhaben war, vorübergeht, wird sich entsetzen und fragen: Warum hat der HERR diesem Land und diesem Haus das angetan?
Und man wird antworten: Weil sie den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, der sie aus Ägypten geführt hat, verlassen und sich an andere Götter gehängt, sich vor ihnen niedergeworfen und sie verehrt haben, darum hat er all dieses Unglück über sie gebracht.
People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them — that is why he brought all this disaster on them.’ ”
