Über Moab: So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Wehe über Nebo, denn es wird verwüstet. Zuschanden, erobert wird Kirjatajim. Zuschanden wird die Fluchtburg und zerbrochen.
Prophecy against Moab
Concerning Moab. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel,
“Woe to Nebo, for it has been destroyed;
Kiriathaim has been put to shame, it has been captured;
The lofty stronghold has been put to shame and shattered.

Moabs Ruhm ist dahin. In Heschbon plante man sein Unheil: Kommt, wir rotten es aus, sodass es kein Volk mehr ist! Auch du, Madmen, wirst verstummen; das Schwert verfolgt dich.
“There is praise for Moab no longer;
In Heshbon they have devised calamity against her:
‘Come and let us cut her off from being a nation!’

Horch! Wehgeschrei aus Horonajim: Verwüstung und großer Zusammenbruch!
“The sound of an outcry from Horonaim,
‘Devastation and great destruction!’

Zerstört ist Moab! So gellt der Schrei bis nach Zoar.
“Moab is broken,
Her little ones have sounded out a cry of distress.

Die Steige von Luhit steigt man bitterlich weinend hinauf. Ja, am Abstieg von Horonajim hört man über die Zerstörung entsetzliches Schreien.
“For by the ascent of Luhith
They will ascend with continual weeping;
For at the descent of Horonaim
They have heard the anguished cry of destruction.

Flieht, rettet euer Leben und werdet wie der Wacholder in der Wüste!
“Flee, save your lives,
That you may be like a juniper in the wilderness.

Weil du auf deine Werke und deine Schätze vertraut hast, wirst auch du erobert werden. In die Verbannung muss Kemosch ziehen samt seinen Priestern und Fürsten.
“For because of your trust in your own achievements and treasures,

Der Verwüster kommt über jede Stadt, keine Stadt kann sich retten. Verheert wird das Tal, verwüstet die Ebene — wie der HERR gesagt hat.
“A destroyer will come to every city,

Setzt ein Grabmal für Moab; denn es verfällt ganz und gar. Seine Städte werden zur Wüste, niemand wohnt mehr darin.
“Give wings to Moab,
For she will flee away;
And her cities will become a desolation,
Without inhabitants in them.

Verflucht, wer den Auftrag des HERRN lässig betreibt, ja, verflucht, wer sein Schwert abhält vom Blutvergießen.
“Cursed be the one who does the LORD’S work negligently,

Ungestört war Moab von seiner Jugend an, ruhig lag es auf seiner Hefe. Es wurde nicht umgeschüttet von Gefäß zu Gefäß: Nie musste es in die Verbannung ziehen. Darum blieb ihm sein Wohlgeschmack erhalten, sein Duft veränderte sich nicht.
“Moab has been at ease since his youth;
He has also been undisturbed, like wine on its dregs,
And he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel,
Nor has he gone into exile.

Darum, siehe, Tage kommen — Spruch des HERRN — , da schicke ich Kellermeister zu ihm; sie gießen es um, entleeren seine Gefäße und zerschlagen seine Krüge.
“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will send to him those who tip vessels, and they will tip him over, and they will empty his vessels and shatter his jars.
Moab wird an Kemosch zuschanden, wie das Haus Israel zuschanden wurde an Bet-El, auf das es vertraute.
“And Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.
Wie könnt ihr sagen: Helden sind wir, starke Krieger zum Kampf?
“How can you say, ‘We are mighty warriors,
And men valiant for battle’?

Moab ist verwüstet, in seine Städte steigt man hinauf; da gehen seine besten jungen Männer hinab, um geschlachtet zu werden — Spruch des Königs, HERR der Heerscharen ist sein Name.

Der Untergang Moabs rückt heran, schnell eilt sein Unglück herbei.
“The disaster of Moab will soon come,

Beklagt es alle, ihr seine Nachbarn, und alle, die ihr seinen Namen kennt! Sagt: Ach, zerbrochen ist der starke Stab, das herrliche Zepter!

Steig herab von deiner Würde, setz dich in den Schmutz, du thronende Tochter Dibon! Denn Moabs Verwüster zieht hinauf gegen dich, zerstört deine Burgen.
“Come down from your glory
And sit on the parched ground,
O daughter dwelling in Dibon,
For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you,
He has ruined your strongholds.

Stellt euch an den Weg und späht aus, ihr Einwohner von Aroër! Fragt den Flüchtling und die fliehende Frau, sagt: Was ist geschehen?

Zuschanden ist Moab, denn es ist zerbrochen. Jammert laut und schreit! Meldet am Arnon: Moab ist verwüstet!
“Moab has been put to shame, for it has been shattered.

Ein Gericht kam über das ebene Land, über Holon, Jahaz und Mefaat,
“Judgment has also come upon the plain, upon Holon, Jahzah and against Mephaath,
über Kerijot und Bozra und über alle Städte des Landes Moab, die fernen und die nahen.

Abgehauen ist Moabs Horn, zerschmettert sein Arm — Spruch des HERRN.
“The horn of Moab has been cut off and his arm broken,” declares the LORD.
Macht es betrunken; denn es hat geprahlt gegen den HERRN! So stürze Moab in sein eigenes Gespei und werde auch selbst zu Gespött.
“Make him drunk, for he has become arrogant toward the LORD; so Moab will wallow in his vomit, and he also will become a laughingstock.
Ist dir nicht Israel zum Gespött geworden? Wurde es etwa beim Diebstahl ertappt, dass du höhnend den Kopf geschüttelt hast, sooft du von ihm sprachst?
“Now was not Israel a laughingstock to you? Or was he caught among thieves? For each time you speak about him you shake your head in scorn.
Verlasst die Städte, wohnt in den Felsen, ihr Bewohner von Moab! Macht es wie die Taube, die nistet an den Wänden der offenen Schlucht!
“Leave the cities and dwell among the crags,
O inhabitants of Moab,
And be like a dove that nests
Beyond the mouth of the chasm.

Wir haben von Moabs Stolz gehört — es ist stolz über die Maßen — , von seinem Hochmut und seinem Stolz, von seinem Dünkel und seinem hochfahrenden Sinn.
“We have heard of the pride of Moab — he is very proud —

Ich kenne seinen Übermut — Spruch des HERRN — , sein Geschwätz ist nicht wahr, sein Tun ist nicht recht.
“I know his fury,” declares the LORD,

Darum jammere ich laut über Moab, über ganz Moab schreie ich und über die Leute von Kir-Heres seufzt man.
“Therefore I will wail for Moab,
Even for all Moab will I cry out;
I will moan for the men of Kir-heres.

Mehr als um Jaser weine ich um dich, Weinstock von Sibma; bis ans Meer zogen sich deine Ranken hin, sie reichten bis an das Meer von Jaser. Über deine Obsternte und deine Weinlese fiel der Verwüster her.
“More than the weeping for Jazer
I will weep for you, O vine of Sibmah!
Your tendrils stretched across the sea,
They reached to the sea of Jazer;
Upon your summer fruits and your grape harvest
The destroyer has fallen.

Verschwunden sind Freude und Jubelgeschrei vom Fruchtland und vom Land Moab. Den Wein habe ich verschwinden lassen in den Kelterbecken, niemand tritt mehr die Kelter mit dem Jubelruf Hedad! — Der Jubel ist kein Jubel mehr.
“So gladness and joy are taken away
From the fruitful field, even from the land of Moab.
And I have made the wine to cease from the wine presses;
No one will tread them with shouting,
The shouting will not be shouts of joy.

Das Schreien ist laut von Heschbon bis Elale; bis Jahaz erheben sie ihre Stimme, von Zoar bis Horonajim und Eglat-Schelischija; denn selbst die Wasser von Nimrim versiegen.
“From the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, even to Jahaz they have raised their voice, from Zoar even to Horonaim and to Eglath-shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim will become desolate.
Ich mache in Moab ein Ende damit — Spruch des HERRN — , dass jemand zu einer Kulthöhe hinaufsteigt und seinen Göttern Räucheropfer darbringt.
“I will make an end of Moab,” declares the LORD, “the one who offers sacrifice on the high place and the one who burns incense to his gods.
Darum seufzt mein Herz wie eine Flöte um Moab, ja mein Herz seufzt wie eine Flöte um die Leute von Kir-Heres, weil sie ihre ganze Habe verloren.
“Therefore My heart wails for Moab like flutes; My heart also wails like flutes for the men of Kir-heres. Therefore they have lost the abundance it produced.
Jeder Kopf ist kahlgeschoren und jeder Bart abgeschnitten, an allen Händen sind Ritzwunden und um die Hüften Trauerkleider.
“For every head is bald and every beard cut short; there are gashes on all the hands and sackcloth on the loins.
Auf allen Dächern und Plätzen Moabs hört man nichts als Klage. Ja, ich zerschlage Moab wie ein Gefäß, das niemandem mehr gefällt — Spruch des HERRN.
“On all the housetops of Moab and in its streets there is lamentation everywhere; for I have broken Moab like an undesirable vessel,” declares the LORD.
Wie ist es zerbrochen! Sie jammern laut. Wie hat Moab sich schmählich zur Flucht gewandt! So wird Moab zum Gespött und zum Entsetzen für all seine Nachbarn.
“How shattered it is! How they have wailed! How Moab has turned his back — he is ashamed! So Moab will become a laughingstock and an object of terror to all around him.”
Denn so spricht der HERR: Siehe, wie ein Geier schwebt er und breitet seine Schwingen über Moab aus.

Die Städte werden erobert, die Festungen eingenommen. Das Herz der Helden Moabs ist an jenem Tag wie das Herz einer Frau in Wehen.
“Kerioth has been captured
And the strongholds have been seized,
So the hearts of the mighty men of Moab in that day
Will be like the heart of a woman in labor.

Vernichtet wird Moab, sodass es kein Volk mehr ist; denn es hat geprahlt gegen den HERRN.
“Moab will be destroyed from being a people

Grauen, Grube und Garn über dich, Bewohner von Moab — Spruch des HERRN.
“Terror, pit and snare are coming upon you,
O inhabitant of Moab,” declares the LORD.

Wer dem Grauen entflieht, fällt in die Grube, wer aus der Grube heraufsteigt, verfängt sich im Garn, denn ich bringe über Moab das Jahr seiner Heimsuchung — Spruch des HERRN.

Will be caught in the snare;
For I shall bring upon her, even upon Moab,
The year of their punishment,” declares the LORD.

Im Schatten von Heschbon bleiben erschöpft Flüchtlinge stehen, denn Feuer geht aus von Heschbon, eine Flamme mitten aus Sihon. Es verzehrt die Schläfe Moabs, den Scheitel der lärmenden Schreier.
“In the shadow of Heshbon

For a fire has gone forth from Heshbon
And a flame from the midst of Sihon,
And it has devoured the forehead of Moab
And the scalps of the riotous revelers.

Wehe dir, Moab! — Verloren ist das Volk des Kemosch. Denn deine Söhne schleppt man in die Verbannung, deine Töchter in die Gefangenschaft.
