Im zweiten Jahr des Königs Darius, 1 am einundzwanzigsten Tag des siebten Monats, erging das Wort des HERRN durch den Propheten Haggai:
The Builders Encouraged
On the twenty-first of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet saying,

Sag zu Serubbabel, dem Sohn Schealtiëls, dem Statthalter von Juda, und zum Hohepriester Jehoschua, dem Sohn des Jozadak, und zu denen, die vom Volk übrig sind:
“Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people saying,
Wer ist unter euch noch übrig, der diesen Tempel in seiner früheren Herrlichkeit gesehen hat? Und wie seht ihr ihn jetzt? Erscheint er euch nicht wie ein Nichts?
‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison?
Aber nun fasse Mut, Serubbabel — Spruch des HERRN — , fasse Mut, Hohepriester Jehoschua, Sohn des Jozadak, fass Mut, alles Volk des Landes — Spruch des HERRN — , und macht euch an die Arbeit! Denn ich bin bei euch — Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen,
‘But now take courage, Zerubbabel,’ declares the LORD, ‘take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,’ declares the LORD, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ declares the LORD of hosts.
— wie ich im Bund mit euch bei eurem Auszug aus Ägypten versprochen habe — und mein Geist bleibt in eurer Mitte. Fürchtet euch nicht!
‘As for the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear!’
Denn so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Nur noch kurze Zeit, dann lasse ich den Himmel und die Erde, das Meer und das Festland erbeben
“For thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land.
und ich lasse alle Völker erzittern. Dann strömen die Schätze aller Völker herbei und ich erfülle dieses Haus mit Herrlichkeit, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen.
‘I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts.
Mir gehört das Silber und mir das Gold — Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.
‘The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,’ declares the LORD of hosts.
Die künftige Herrlichkeit dieses Hauses wird größer sein als die frühere, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen. Und an diesem Ort schenke ich Frieden — Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.
‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ declares the LORD of hosts.”
Im zweiten Jahr des Darius erging am vierundzwanzigsten Tag des neunten Monats dieses Wort des HERRN an den Propheten Haggai:
On the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Haggai the prophet, saying,
So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Erbitte von den Priestern eine Weisung in folgender Frage:
“Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Ask now the priests for a ruling:
Wenn jemand heiliges Opferfleisch im Bausch seines Gewandes trägt und mit seinem Bausch Brot oder etwas Gekochtes berührt oder Wein oder Öl oder sonst etwas Essbares, wird dieses dadurch geheiligt? Die Priester antworteten: Nein.
‘If a man carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and touches bread with this fold, or cooked food, wine, oil, or any other food, will it become holy?’” And the priests answered, “No.”
Da fragte Haggai: Wenn jemand, der durch eine Leiche unrein geworden ist, das alles berührt, wird es dann unrein? Die Priester antworteten: Es wird unrein.
Then Haggai said, “If one who is unclean from a corpse touches any of these, will the latter become unclean?” And the priests answered, “It will become unclean.”
Darauf erwiderte Haggai: Ebenso sind in meinen Augen dieses Volk und diese Leute — Spruch des HERRN — und ebenso alle Arbeit ihrer Hände und was sie dort als Opfer darbringen: Unrein ist es.
Then Haggai said, “ ‘So is this people. And so is this nation before Me,’ declares the LORD, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.
Nun aber gebt Acht von heute an und weiterhin! Bevor man am Tempel des HERRN Stein auf Stein legte,
‘But now, do consider from this day onward: before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD,
wie ist es euch da ergangen? Kam man zu einem Kornhaufen, der zwanzig Maß haben sollte, so waren es nur zehn; kam man zur Kelter, um fünfzig Maß zu schöpfen, waren es nur zwanzig.
from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there would be only twenty.
Mit Getreidebrand und Mehltau und Hagel schlug ich euch, alle Arbeit eurer Hände, und doch wandte sich keiner unter euch mir zu — Spruch des HERRN.
‘I smote you and every work of your hands with blasting wind, mildew and hail; yet you did not come back to Me,’ declares the LORD.
Gebt Acht von heute an und weiterhin, vom vierundzwanzigsten Tag des neunten Monats an, dem Tag, an dem der Grundstein zum Tempel des HERRN gelegt wurde! Gebt Acht,
‘Do consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month; from the day when the temple of the LORD was founded, consider:
ob das Saatkorn weiterhin im Speicher bleibt und ob Weinstock und Feigenbaum, Granatbaum und Ölbaum immer noch keine Frucht tragen! Von heute an spende ich Segen.
‘Is the seed still in the barn? Even including the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree, it has not borne fruit. Yet from this day on I will bless you.’”
Am vierundzwanzigsten Tag des Monats erging das Wort des HERRN ein zweites Mal an Haggai:
Then the word of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,
Sag zu Serubbabel, dem Statthalter von Juda: Ich lasse den Himmel und die Erde erbeben.
“Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying, ‘I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.
Ich stürze die Throne der Könige und zerschlage die Macht der Königreiche der Völker. Ich stoße die Kriegswagen samt ihren Fahrern um, die Pferde sinken samt ihren Reitern zu Boden, einer vom Schwert des andern getroffen.
‘I will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots and their riders, and the horses and their riders will go down, everyone by the sword of another.’
An jenem Tag — Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen — nehme ich dich, mein Knecht Serubbabel, Sohn Schealtiëls, — Spruch des HERRN — und mache dich zu meinem Siegelring; denn ich habe dich erwählt — Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.
‘On that day,’ declares the LORD of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you,’” declares the LORD of hosts.
