und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Nimm alle Anführer des Volkes und richte sie hin für den HERRN im Angesicht der Sonne, damit sich der glühende Zorn des HERRN von Israel abwendet!
And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.
Da sagte Mose zu den Richtern Israels: Jeder soll die von seinen Männern töten, die sich für Baal-Pegor ins Joch spannen ließen.
And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

Phinehas Kills Zimri and Cozbi

Als das der Priester Pinhas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes Aarons, sah, stand er mitten in der Gemeinde auf, ergriff einen Speer,
And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
ging dem Israeliten in das Zeltinnere nach und durchbohrte beide, den Israeliten und die Frau, durch ihren Bauch. Danach nahm die Plage, die die Israeliten getroffen hatte, ein Ende.
And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
Im Ganzen aber waren vierundzwanzigtausend Menschen an der Plage gestorben.
And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
Der Priester Pinhas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes Aarons, hat meinen Zorn von den Israeliten abgewendet, weil er mitten unter ihnen Eifer für mich bewiesen hat. So musste ich die Israeliten in meinem leidenschaftlichen Eifer nicht umbringen.
Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
Darum sprich: Siehe, hiermit stifte ich ihm meinen Friedensbund.
Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
Ihm und seinen Nachkommen wird der Bund des ewigen Priestertums zuteil, weil er sich für seinen Gott ereifert und für die Israeliten Sühne erwirkt hat.
And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
Der Israelit, der zusammen mit der Midianiterin erschlagen worden war, hieß Simri; er war ein Sohn Salus und Anführer einer simeonitischen Großfamilie.
Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.
Die erschlagene Midianiterin hieß Kosbi; sie war die Tochter Zurs und dieser war das Haupt von Sippen einer Großfamilie in Midian.
And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
Der HERR sprach zu Mose:
A Warning against the Midianites
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

denn auch sie haben euch arglistig angegriffen, als sie euch mit Pegor und mit ihrer Schwester Kosbi überlisteten, der Tochter eines Anführers der Midianiter, die erschlagen wurde, als die Plage wegen Pegor ausgebrochen war.
For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.
