Als sie in die Nähe von Jerusalem kamen, nach Betfage und Betanien am Ölberg, schickte er zwei seiner Jünger aus.

Er sagte zu ihnen: Geht in das Dorf, das vor euch liegt; gleich wenn ihr hineinkommt, werdet ihr ein Fohlen angebunden finden, auf dem noch nie ein Mensch gesessen hat. Bindet es los und bringt es her!
And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
Und wenn jemand zu euch sagt: Was tut ihr da?, dann antwortet: Der Herr braucht es; er lässt es bald wieder zurückbringen.
And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.
Da machten sie sich auf den Weg und fanden außen an einer Tür an der Straße ein Fohlen angebunden und sie banden es los.
And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.
Einige, die dabeistanden, sagten zu ihnen: Wie kommt ihr dazu, das Fohlen loszubinden?
And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?
Sie gaben ihnen zur Antwort, was Jesus gesagt hatte, und man ließ sie gewähren.
And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
Sie brachten das Fohlen zu Jesus, legten ihre Kleider auf das Tier und er setzte sich darauf.
And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.
Und viele breiteten ihre Kleider auf den Weg aus, andere aber Büschel, die sie von den Feldern abgerissen hatten.
And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.
Die Leute, die vor ihm hergingen und die ihm nachfolgten, riefen: Hosanna! Gesegnet sei er, der kommt im Namen des Herrn!
And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:
Gesegnet sei das Reich unseres Vaters David, das nun kommt. Hosanna in der Höhe!
Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
Und er zog nach Jerusalem hinein, in den Tempel; nachdem er sich alles angesehen hatte, ging er spät am Abend mit den Zwölf nach Betanien hinaus.
And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
Als sie am nächsten Tag Betanien verließen, hatte er Hunger.
Jesus Curses the Fig Tree
And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:

Da sah er von Weitem einen Feigenbaum mit Blättern und ging hin, um nach Früchten zu suchen. Aber er fand nichts als Blätter; denn es war nicht die Zeit der Feigenernte.
And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
Da sagte er zu ihm: In Ewigkeit soll niemand mehr eine Frucht von dir essen. Und seine Jünger hörten es.
And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
Dann kamen sie nach Jerusalem. Jesus ging in den Tempel und begann, die Händler und Käufer aus dem Tempel hinauszutreiben; er stieß die Tische der Geldwechsler und die Stände der Taubenhändler um
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
Er belehrte sie und sagte: Heißt es nicht in der Schrift: Mein Haus soll ein Haus des Gebetes für alle Völker genannt werden? Ihr aber habt daraus eine Räuberhöhle gemacht.
And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Die Hohepriester und die Schriftgelehrten hörten davon und suchten nach einer Möglichkeit, ihn umzubringen. Denn sie fürchteten ihn, weil das Volk außer sich war vor Staunen über seine Lehre.
And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.
Als es Abend wurde, verließ Jesus mit seinen Jüngern die Stadt.
And when even was come, he went out of the city.
Als sie am nächsten Morgen an dem Feigenbaum vorbeikamen, sahen sie, dass er bis zu den Wurzeln verdorrt war.

Da erinnerte sich Petrus und sagte zu Jesus: Rabbi, sieh doch, der Feigenbaum, den du verflucht hast, ist verdorrt.
And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Habt Glauben an Gott!
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
Amen, ich sage euch: Wenn jemand zu diesem Berg sagt: Heb dich empor und stürz dich ins Meer! und wenn er in seinem Herzen nicht zweifelt, sondern glaubt, dass geschieht, was er sagt, dann wird es geschehen.
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Darum sage ich euch: Alles, worum ihr betet und bittet — glaubt nur, dass ihr es schon erhalten habt, dann wird es euch zuteil.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Und wenn ihr beten wollt und ihr habt einem anderen etwas vorzuwerfen, dann vergebt ihm, damit auch euer Vater im Himmel euch eure Verfehlungen vergibt. [26]
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
Sie kamen wieder nach Jerusalem. Als er im Tempel umherging, kamen die Hohepriester, die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten zu ihm
Jesus' Authority Challenged
And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,

und fragten ihn: In welcher Vollmacht tust du das? Wer hat dir diese Vollmacht gegeben, das zu tun?
And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?
Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Ich will euch eine Frage stellen. Antwortet mir, dann werde ich euch sagen, in welcher Vollmacht ich das tue.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
Stammte die Taufe des Johannes vom Himmel oder von den Menschen? Antwortet mir!
The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.
Da überlegten sie und sagten zueinander: Wenn wir antworten: Vom Himmel, so wird er sagen: Warum habt ihr ihm dann nicht geglaubt?
And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?
Sollen wir also antworten: Von den Menschen? Sie fürchteten sich aber vor den Leuten; denn alle hielten Johannes wirklich für einen Propheten.
But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
